Absolutely mind blown by the quality of this novel and translation. The first chapter I didn't quite get it all, but it set and incredible mood on me that I couldn't stop but keep reading. You really get a sense of the disparity of values and how MC is someone from the 1930s.... that past life though, oof. I couldn't tell who was in the right or wrong, just thought there must be complex misunderstandings bc they don't or didn't communicate properly.

Really excited to see how this goes. It reads... more>> so realistically.

EDIT: to clarify about POVs. First and second chapter is from the 1930s MC's perspective, in his time and in the future respectively. Following ones change to the ML and then to another character's POV.I'm guessing they'll rotate around a lot then.

EDIT 2: Haven't read further bc I'm waiting for further updates so I can binge, but heads up anyone reading this should be prepared multiple povs and the slow pacing (feel like same events were being repeated from diff povs some chapters) <<less

I've listened to the audio drama and was really interested in the story. So glad that there's a translation for it now and reading it gave me a better understanding of the story and small parts that I've previously missed out.

I've read the reviews below and I agree that Chapter 1 really sets the tone for the story. It's better to read it even if you don't get the politics of it.

The review before mine mentioned the characteristics of the MC and ML which I didn't understand how they got... more>> there in the first place. ML is a kind-hearted boy who wants to get famous, while the MC is a kind, learned gentleman who wants to make it happen for him.

Not sure if this counts as a spoiler but I think I can say this if you're all caught up so far (Chapter 5) - modern Jin Shi'an does not appear till much, much later. I'm guessing he's the "s*upid xian yu" that the reviewer before me has mentioned.

The author has written a story about the modern Jin Shi'an and B** *******, it's still on-going.

Perhaps, the translators of this novel may consider translating that once they're done with this?

I skipped chapter one and went straight to chapter two and am currently done with chapter three. The POV is not from the character in the summary so I think there will be a lot of character building later. The writing and translating is fair English and enjoyable to read. B+. But the end of chapter three was abrupt, I'm not sure I understand it.

There are some nice lines in there that I would have liked to copy and paste here but c/p is disallowed on the google doc. I... more>> recommend reading it.

Idk why the rating so low ?

Its quite enjoyable reading experience. My review its quite random.

In the beginning MC and ML character really not likeable. ML with his arrogant, s*upid, pure white rabbit like typical shou in mary su novel and MC like gentleman, s*upid, salted fish second generation s*ave of love.

But later.. ML finally change and I am wrong, so actually MC just acting s*upid, so he can control people. Yeah he actually quite smart and playing politics.

so bai lusheng still alive and he have happy ending with future jin shian (MC : past jin shian) they live happily until they old and died. MC and ML incidentally meet them, when ML got operatioin in California. But there really no story about them, I want bai lusheng point Of view and I want scene about MC meet bai lushang again to solve their problem. Except there one chapter telling their first meeting, after futere jin shian transmigrated into past.
