    Hey, I'm Shin, the translator

I picked this up because it was a prequel (kind of) to another story I wanted to translate, but I ended up loving it! I'll miss it a lot, especially since it was so short.

The main character's a former assassin—now working for the castle—who's only good at fighting and also gets bullied by literally everyone. He doesn't speak out loud much, but the chapters are packed with his internal dialogue which is super funny and he really grows on you. In Act 1, there's a new... more>> character every chapter so the MC gets bullied in a new way each time (woo!) and in Act 2, there's actually a story that leads up to a 10/10 epilogue.

Very reminiscent of a manga called It's My Life, so if you're in for some laughs, give it a read! <<less

I was reading Unnamed Memory and then it occurred to me that it will be a good idea to look what other works the same author have done. Imagine my surprise when I found that he did make a prequel of sorts for that story.

One of the protagonist of Unnamed Memory appears here, but is not the main character. The main character is an ex assassin that ended up working in a castle for a Kingdom, and somehow when he was straighting his past, he ends with a housemate that... more>> is a Witch who likes to transform into a cat. The story in itself is fine, it's mostly comedy (similar to "The combatants will be dispatched" for that kind of humor). We follow the adventures -more properly speaking, the missfortunes- of our main protagonist and his interactions with a colourful cast of people, the most prominent of those is of course the witch. The relationship between the two is a funny one with continuos back a forth in the dialogue and actions that makes you think of a commedic duo performing a routine.

For me, the most interesting part of the story was the fact that it was possible to learn a little more about the Witch (one of the main characters in Unnamed Story).

It's said the this little novel occours in the years 1250-53, and in comparison, Unnamed Story occours in the year 1654 of that world. Almost 400 years of difference.. That means that Tina, the witch, has to be fairly young and inexperienced (in fact, not much time has to have passed since she became a witch). That difference is really aparent if we take in consideration the events in Unnamed Story, because in that story she is more mature, more experienced, less "hateful" of humans, and more alluring even; but at the same time you can see in both stories her playful side and her aloofness that sometimes reminds you of a cat. For me the really interesting part of this brief novel is the portrait of her and getting to know a little more of her character. <<less

A decent story but not a deep one. I would recommend reading this if you had finished the author's Unnamed Memory book series - one of the main characters is featured in here.

At the start I thought it was going to be good, and it was okay but I became a little frustrated in the middle cause most of the characters treat ML very bad or he's like a stepping stone for them that it's but funny anymore. But I really liked the bickering between ML and Tina. They could become such a good couple but it really disappointed me that they didn't end up together cause they had a really good chemistry.. And the communication between ML and the heroine seems... more>> very awkward to me so ending was not good to me <<less

Short, amusing, maybe not for everyone. Translation is excellent.

The story doesn’t really feel complete, more like a side story or a prequel to the main story that happens twenty years later or something. This is because it truly is like that and Unnamed Memory is that main story. It is probably a good idea to read that first, but not necessary as I did without.

The story is amusing, but is not for everyone. In that I mean that the MC is just being stepped on by everyone and the tables... more>> never turn, there is no exchange of blows here between friends. I felt bad for the MC. The only characters that genuinely seem to like the MC are the witch and his love interest. The rest are jerks that abuse him quite severely.

I also don’t think it is that similar to It’s My Life. The MC there is also quite socially awkward, but no one steps on him. He is too competent and too well respected and you don’t f*ck with his house. There is no such line here. The MC there is a bit too nice, the MC here is mostly a bumbling fool that is really good at killing people <<less
