MC left town to make a name for himself and be famous but what does he do? Go to some other country and fight a war and eventually become a General at the age of 28 with the rank of Captain. WTF??!

1. The only logic I can see here is that the writer has somehow convinced himself that for for the MC to show his worth and make a name for himself is to go the jungle and became Tarzan for 6 years.

2. MC wants to make up for leaving... more>> his wife for 6 years by asking for a divorce.

3. Someone comes to their house bringing betrothal gifts but didn't say who it is from and for whom, making everyone guess and as expected, they always guess the wrong thing.

4. The Company is expecting a new Chairman to arrive and nobody knows the name and face. Not even the HR manager knows, and the person who knows is not at the door expecting his arrival to prevent any mistaken identities. As of course this is exactly what happened. And also as expected, there is no celebration for the new Chairman. Maybe the writer decided to do it at a later chapter. For a General with the rank of Captain, he sure has forgotten all the skills of a commander the minute he stepped on his home soil.

5. MC's constant aloofness and not showing his 'Tarzan' powers in the beginning is a recipe for misunderstandings and makes everyone even his wife resent him. I guess that is the premise of novels nowadays.

6. MC calls his wife Aunt to his daughter and his daughter calls her mother as Aunt. It's so confusing I had to read it a couple of times to finally get it.

Only 20 chapters in and I'm so disappointed and furious I had to write something. Will the writing get better? Will all the confusion and ambiguities be clarified? I don't know but early signs don't looks too good for the long term. <<less

I have never felt so much anger reading something. This is really something. The dumb actions cannot be even comprehended by logic. The mother of the FL is not human. I did not know if there can be such an idiotic character written but the author has proved me wrong.

The MC is also an idiot. Has power and status but does not use it immediately to alleviate the problems of the FL. What a letdown. This is a misunderstandings galore but the bad misunderstandings which destroy reputation and other stuff... more>> which could have been totally prevented. <<less

I don't know if it was creative interpretation by translator or the setting were actually set in USA but the s*upidity like this (arrogant young master, no cops, company that changing hand as easy as in the flea market) could only happen in mainland china. But let say that it setting was actually in America.

Cringed points :

- General with captain rank. A Soldier (army) but wear white formal uniform like Navy when he proposed.

... more>> - Various Crime acts witness by many but no one call the police.

- MC has no reason to act low key since the reason he left for 6 years was to become a "successful man" so nobody belittle him.

- Unlike mainland China, company in usa not as easily changing hand like candy.

- MC demanding an allegiance from a company (verbal agreement) in a modern era.

- Chinese-esque familial patriarchy system in a USA.

- IQ of everyone in the novel are lowered 100 points by default.

tldr

don't waste your time to this garbage. <<less

This novel is bad. Real bad.

The overpowered MC hides his monetary wealth, power and physical prowess for reasons unknown, just so he can get to all sorts of wacky trouble like attempted r*pe of family members (repeatedly).

The villains are cartoon characters and EVERYONE is a villain.

... more>> Only people resembling a human beings are the MC's wife, wife's sister and the overly violent underling of the MC.

Speaking of the wife; she is a freaking saint. Even after all the "wacky troubles" mentioned above, she forgives everybody, just so that the same people can make her the damsel in distress again. It's like a plot loop, it never ends.

Every chapter is a misunderstanding or an underestimation of the MC which he just solves with violence or money, And It Never Ends.

I have never been this infuriated reading a novel. So why did I read 169 chapters of it? The writings not bad and I was hoping this is going somewhere, but turns out I just hate everyone in this novel. <<less

I recently got to know about son-in-law webnovels. There were ads on YouTube for audio books and when I listened to them (and read where I could find text) I just knew they had to be translated webnovels because of the style they're written in.

I got interested in several of them because of that, some of which I've dropped (all the audio books, I'm just more comfortable reading that listening, it's easier to skim useless details, too.) So I found some son-in-law novels but they all pissed... more>> me off one way or another. (I dropped Charlie wade after 1500 chapters, it's the farthest I got but I was irritated long before that.)

I like the dynamics of the characters in this story. I like Lucas and Jordan and I'm interested in finding out more of their background. The mom-in-law still pisses me off but I'm also happy the secret didn't stay secret for long (I read another reader's review on Charlie wade saying in 3000 chapters his wife still didn't know his background. Yikes.) This webnovel is less repetitive than others in this genre, I also like that Lucas has a bottom line but isn't unreasonable or arrogant just because he's got some power so he goes around picking fights with everyone. He's also ruthless but so far I do think he's still fair with his enemies. Between Charlie Wade (too unreasonable and arrogant) And ultimate husband (Darryl, the lead, was way too forgiving where he shouldn't have been until it was too late, I put it on hold around the 600s) I think this strikes a good balance. Plus so far there's no cultivation.

Up to where I've read it's 5 stars for me.

Dec 20 ch 611

I read until about 500 and skimmed/skipped to 611 before I stopped. Up until that point I still thought Lucas was fair, or mostly fair, with how he dealt with people. But the thing with the Owen family and the Parker family didn't sit right with me. Not only did the Parker patriarch and several members of his family piss Lucas off several times, they become his lackey because a son of a rival family tried to frame Lucas for mu*der. No one else in the Owen family knew, and he dies anyway, but I felt sorry for the patriarch/dad who was forced to kill himself for his family's safety by the Parkers who now had Lucas's backing. I would have rather the Parker family had been killed too, but oh well. It was fine while it lasted. <<less
