He was an experiment of the Church. Baptized by the Holy Light, inoculated with foreign blood, equipped with the tail and fangs of a venomous snake, and embedded with the wings of an eagle.

Unfortunately, he was a failed experiment.

Abandoned by faith, watched by nobles, treated as a demon, and used as a plaything for the evangelists. In the midst of a tumultuous campaign against heresy, Arnold fled, donning the cloak of a wizard in the dense forest, escaping control and encountering a disabled knight.

Apart from his beauty, he is nothing but a useless experimental object, and he must rely on the blind knight whose power comes from the Holy Light.

Arnold dared not touch him, dared not approach him, and dared not be discovered by the paladin. But, he didn’t know that there was a newly resurrected divine soul in the body that he could not see.

However, this was an evil god.

His lover was supposed to be a weak dodder flower. But this flower, stripped of all its defenses, tore open its shelter, and walked step by step to overcome his suffering. His slender fingers were able to remove the crown of sorcery and achieve great things. His lover, and his Believer sat in the highest place, demanding a kiss from a terrifying evil god, like a sacrifice full of longing.

One sentence summary: Love you infinitely, kiss you countless times.

Though I have only read one third of the novel so far, it is clear that this is a fantastic story. The plot is solid, captivating, with a good pacing. All characters who appear even for a short time have a well-defined personality and role. The evil god, ML, is clearly described as a non-human, overpowered existence that can barely understand the human world since his thinking and self-image is so foreign to humans.

The worldbuilding is amazing, and I love the general concept: how existences with enough power and knowledge... more>> can become god-like; how faith and the ideas of the faithful both empower and limit the ascended gods; how those higher existences then can only interact with the regular world in a limited form, as their powers are too great to be fully manifested in the lower realms.

The concepts of magic and faith are deeply interweaved within the universe, and it is both jaring, amusing and intriguing to see the difference between the reverent approach of humans to gods versus the interactions between the gods themselves; how the evil god ML simply calls the other gods by their old human names, not seing anything sacrosanct in those taboo names.

The MC, initially powerless and ignorant, quickly finds his path to freedom in power, working hard to achieve results. Unlike so many other novels, here the ML doesn't limit the MC's actions and keep him from danger, despite being possessive of his unknowing believer; on the opposite, the evil god actively promotes the MC's rise in power because he acknowledges they can only stay together for a long time if their existences become more similar. As a god cannot abandon his power, the only solution is for MC to come closer to being a god himself.

Overall, the writing is very enjoyable, with a clear, flowing language, without any plot filler.

Edit: more than 100 chapters already, and the novel is still fantastic and unique. It's very rare for western fantasy to be well-written in chinese novels; this one is not only good, it actually feels just like a western fantasy ratger than an imitation. People have last names! People actually have last names! And those names make sense, rather than being a collection of sounds.

Edit 2: finished it all; this was an absolute gem. Of the novels describing the crossing of the god-human boundary, this is one of the best developed in terms of world building and plot. <<less

Fun and engaging adventure with great worldbuilding. The pacing of the story is just right and characters are solid.

I like the depiction of gods in this story. It's not new or anything but it's still nice to read. How faith empower and define a god, how the definition of "evil" gods are not the same as how humans would judge good and evil is, and just how powerful true gods really are that they couldn't even descend easily to the mortal world.
