First-off, obviously a novel about a novelist is somewhat of a self-insert, but the author really laid it on thick with the wish fulfillment. He's a bit introverted, but the only reason he doesn't look like a model is that he doesn't take care of his appearance, and for whatever reason he's talented in just about any other field and simply decided to become a novelist for sentimental reasons.

Add the fact that he randomly gets a beautiful and rich wife, and you have the basic setting of this novel.

So the... more>> start is a little too exaggerated for my taste, but it does get better. For some of the more recent chapters I might have even given five stars, but I had to reflect the weak beginning.

Anyway, what actually drives the novel is the characters, especially the leads. It's par for the course for them to develop feelings for each other, but there are additional layers to it.

He's paranoid that the slightest misstep might result in cutting off the money at best or being exposed of by her family who he even suspects of drug trading and organised crime. Meanwhile, her innocent affection is slightly warped into the direction of obsession and possessiveness, and she's looking for ways to bind him to her permanently - even more thoroughly than the legal marriage and the contracts they sign at the start.

But even the other characters aren't shallow (although the introductions of the other chaebol members so far has been close to templates, but they are developed further), and their interactions are quite entertaining. And as the story goes on, there are more and more sweet moments as well.

To sum up, it's a solid novel held back by the first few chapters. Once you get through the start it's a smooth read. <<less
