I thought it was going to be a very generic bad past but his was generic bad past dialed up 100x. He was the result of a r*pe and that definitely left a very big psychological scar on his mum and eventually, him. Because no one wanted him. Not the grandparents and not his parents. He was physically and mentally ab*sed by basically every adult in his life (except that one granny in the building and GN's parents). And before things could get better, his biological dad drags him back (the usual this kid is going to take care of me when I am old thing in this culture) to just ab*se him more. The book acknowledges how mentally scarred he is that I sincerely wonder if he ever sought help for that? And I just knew that the father was going to be a looming figure in the back until he gets out of the picture permanently by exiting earth. Which only happens way later. Lastly, the village chief told HY to forgive his father when he was old and the fact that they were related. That was ridiculous. That man was practically a monster that deserved no sympathy and I'm glad that HY chose not to return to pay any respect at the end.

I know it's almost a trope but GN felt just a tad too coddled for me at times. The way he was sheltered by everyone in his life. He did undergo a very traumatic event in his life (NO THANKS to HY's father that I just knew was a time bomb ticking over at the side) but it didn't feel like he genuinely understood the depth of HY's agony and past at times. I mean, he does go on and on about promising to be by HY forever but I just felt like there was something missing. Maybe it's just me. Anyway, the one thing I did not like about their relationship timeline was when GN confessed for the first time and HY just said sorry. With no explanation. I mean, I understood that he had issues (the father, it's the father) to settle first but he could have said something clearer? Because that's a rejection? If I were GN, I would totally take that as a rejection and a sign to move on. Like did HY assume GN should wait for him to settle his issues when he didn't even tell him to give him time or something? Then he later gets jealous when he sees GN smiling at another alpha =.= Like he had no right.

Like how he antagonises HY by being close to GN when they were in the 1st grade, irrevocably causing them to have a bad relationship. He's cheeky. He knows he's plain in comparison to others but is daring and goes out of his way to pursue what he wants. I thought his relationship with LX was cute. The extras had more on their relationship that I enjoyed. As usual, there's still drama on LX family side with a terrible maternal family but that tumour was cleanly cut off at the end.

Side couples have such potential! I want more of extras!! How dare the author put Yu Yi & He Yuchun together but not go in detail?? A literal crime
