Spirit Realm Walker is a pretty good Modern Day progression fantasy that sends the main character off into missions in the spirit realm, as well as development on earth. Its kind of like 48 hours a day / The Devil’s Cage (I've heard this genre described as the "Terror infinity" genre).

The main thing that stands out from this genre is that the developments on earth are actually more interesting and dangerous than the missions.

The power system is a simplified version of Lord of mysteries, with different classes and ranks within... more>> the classes. So the earth is filled with danger, and strong and powerful walkers.

Good things about it:

  • Hoxionia is a great translator. In the age of AI mtl garbage, having a consistent translation is nice.
  • The author is pretty funny. He pushes the bounds with a lot of innuendos, it's always refreshing to see an author push the limits of what the censors will allow. It's rare to see criticism that could easily be applied to the justice system in China slip past and be so open
  • The villains are believable, no generic "rich young masters bad, or church bad, or good guys are bad". Everyone has their motivations and faults, even the heroes.
  • Good use of phones, forums, as well as good use of everything, from the time in the spirit realm and the time in the earth. I haven't seen much filler so far.
  • Protagonist is strong, but doesn't trivialize everything from being ridiculously op.
  • Overall a fun novel and the author has fun with it. Enjoy!

I finished this on MTL and I have to say. There are some parts that made me wanna ask the author why but there were other times I was really enjoying it but overall it was a good read probably shouldn’t read it in one sitting though.

The plot keeps itself interesting and the spirit realm mechanism is interesting to explore and learn more about. The action is nice and exciting, it has a good pace and the character interactions are rich and varied.

This novel started off alright, but quickly got me hooked. The story is paced well, and there are many interesting mysteries to be uncovered.

I like that the protagonist is smart, which makes it satisfying to see the ways he deals with the various events in the story.

However, I didn't like that nearly all of the women in the story are "beautiful" and "charming". I think it's unrealistic that almost every woman that appears is beautiful but only a few of the men are handsome, and only the women have their... more>> legs, chest, and bu*t described constantly. And it's strange for the protagonist to say his own aunt has a slender waist and a soft and round butt. The focus on women here is incredibly annoying to me.

So what happens is that the college student Zhang Yuanqing enters the (hidden) world of Spirit Realm Walkers through a character card sent from his friend. Spirit Realm Walkers are divided into factions, and which class they are assigned dictates which faction they will join, in general. Each Spirit Realm Walker will periodically enter an instance to complete a mission, either in solo mode or multiplayer. Zhang Yuanqing joins the government's organization of Spirit Realm Walkers, which gives him access to their instance strategies and other information.

(I strongly advise you not to look up spoilers because I did and I saw a major spoiler that I feel has ruined a lot of the story for me.)

Another thing to consider before reading is that this novel currently has the most number of bookmarks on Qidian, across all categories. I think that has to mean something. <<less

Not a continuation of anything. New story, new universe.

This story is about an MC who inherits his BF/brother's mantle in the world of the supernatural. He inherits a powerful demon king’s legacy. He is wanted due to the inheritance and must hide his identity as an inheritor while joining the government and working for them. Very well written, great execution, phenomenal foreshadowing and plotting. Great story <<less

Desipite reading it in mtl Spirit realm walker is a very solid read, the 3.9* rating is very deceiving it definitely deserves more than that. There are maybe some things that could have been better at the end imo but overall it still ends up great as the author managed to tie everything without leaving loose ends.

The novels feels complete in comparison to most novels I know that seems to always have rushed ending, but this one ends it in a high note.

Most of the mysteries around the MC has... more>> been resolved and that's actually one of the good things in this novel, the foreshadowing was done right so everything falls in the right place and you can really tell the author already planned everything right from the start, since right from chapter 1 there are already clues. It's very impressive. The harem part is also handled well I'm actually surprised since I myself doesn't really likes harem since most authors just collects women for MC and call it a harem.

And for a modern day novel there's no nationalistic bs in this one which is also a surprise. And that's definitely a plus for me.

To me, this is really a good hidden gem amongst the modern day genre it's a nice find for me. <<less
