After Xie Huaian transmigrated, he became a sickly beauty deep in the palace with three misassumptions:

Xie Huaian was a salted fish with amnesia that only ate and drank. But in the end, he accomplished great things and saved the people of the world.

The puppet emperor was a scheming, guarded, suspicious man he should avoid at all costs. But in the end, the emperor moved into the same room and even helped him boil bath water, dress, and comb his hair.

Xie Huaian was afraid of being hurt and would never fall in love. But in the end, he blazed up like a fire and happily pounced—

The fire burned even bigger. The emperor’s true heart also blazed.

It's actually pretty good. At first, maybe you'll confuse. But If you read it until ch 16+, the story Will be much more clear. Just like the translator-san said. The MC, a salted fish ghost kidnaped by the system back to the historical dinasty as a favorite concubine to slayed the undead army, the holy sect, and the celestial master with infinity life. So, he just lie down sickly and all the things Will be handle by the ML. Not cute but doting, with some misterious things, a Lil bit... more>> dark and cold. It's pretty light story. <<less

Well this is great, short, filled with heartache, over coming trauma, healing, and sweetness;

I wasn't sure about this story at first so I recommend reading until at least ch 16-17 before deciding whether or not you want to drop it, the over all tone starts to change and characters actions start to make sense

I enjoyed the over all narrative, but honestly it was the surprise number of genres combined in the world setting that caught my interest and held it as the story felt really unique

*Note- there is light gore... more>> and horror elements, this is NOT just palace/political intrigue <<less

This hits my guilty pleasure spot so well.

Self sacrificing Sickly beauty MC x Possessive but knows to hold back extra caring ML.

When I say Sickly MC, I mean hella weak and sickly. No worries though, everyone takes care of and spoils MC. ML's mental anguish over MC's sickness as he meticulously takes care of him tickles my heart so wonderfully.

At just 68 chapters long, the pace starts reasonably fast but then chapter 16 smacked me back to reread again from the beginning with fresh eyes. Uwaah so good. The plot... more>> was honestly very interesting.

I'll drop a vague story outline for those who want to have a feel of what you'll be jumping into;

Spoiler

Starts as silly cutie MC bumbling through his transmigration, a stab of mystery that sends you reeling back to reconsider from the start, boss battle, post-battle ptsd healing time, kingdom building crowded by the admiration of others, and finally a speedy wrap up with a bow on top.

Lots of love to the translator for their work and also for putting in the cute author's note and adorable chinese commenters. <<less

Loved it.

The plot is great, it always gives you a new stimulation, really exciting to follow along. Plus it has a lot of uniqueness in system-host relations. Mind that here will be a LOT of glass shards in you c*cktail. The angst in this story is huge (though I am fan of sickly and frail MC type >.<)

The couple is sweet as hell. Not fluffy, but lovable. They depend on each other and trust each other- and this is the type of healthy relationships that are not boring, but... more>> enjoyable. <<less

AH, THE PLOT AND CHARACTERS! I didn't expect this to be so good. The MC is incredibly endearing and is an optimist. He might appear as someone extremely innocent but is knowledgeable with the help of the System. Outside, he handles himself so well, but when he's with someone close, especially the emperor, he reveals these cute quirks that make me want to join hands with Hong Yao into locking him up and showering him with undivided attention.

Hong Yao is just my type of gong — caring, a loyal follower... more>> of his sweetheart, blinded with love (kekeke) with a behavior skirting between gentle and crazed. Even the MC can't guess the hidden emotions behind those eyes, so unpredictable that it makes me excited to see his subsequent actions.

AND THE PLOT! Compelling! One needs to pay attention to details because the author's brain aggshggcsg UGH. You get it? I'm unable to use words properly with how amazed I am. Clues everywhere but my dumb self wasn't able to catch up, it's the author's fault for writing admirably!

Plus, the praiseworthy translations of CG. Thank you for gracing us with your excellent skills. *Kneels*

Overall, if it isn't obvious, I recommend it. I RECOMMEND. <<less

All right, it's time for me to rate this novel as its translator!

Honestly speaking I'd give it a 4.8 out of 5 stars (rounded to 5 for final rating). It's a lovely, short, self-contained novel with a strong main cast and just enough attention on the side characters to keep them pertinent and unique (though I wouldn't have minded a little bit more if the author could spare them the screen time). It starts out pretty typical: MC transmigrates into some cannon fodder male concubine who's just been fed poisoned... more>> wine by the scary yandere emperor and comes back to life. But then you slowly realize things aren't what they look like.

To avoid spoilers, I'll just say this: MC is weak, but also strong, the ML (emperor) is terrifyingly strong and scary, but also gentle. Like people, they change based on who they're with. I think the paradox between MC and ML's characters is part of why they can mesh together so well, and why even when things get dark, you have this tiny, persistent hope that they will pull through, because they are patient and soft with each other, knowing when to push and when to pull.

I also want to commend the author for bringing the world to life with a sprinkling of minor characters and infrastructure in the latter chapters. You get a glimpse of Great Jing and how it slowly grows and thrives in the wake of disaster, as well as a sense that the country and its people will be just fine, even long after the MC and ML are gone. There's a very grounded sense of peace in that knowledge for me, and I'm happy to read it after all the suffering the world and its people have been through.

The main villain... ugh, he's the worst. His choices do make sense, in a twisted sort of way, but he's done everything so out of proportion that it's ceased to be merciful or reasonable. And this is also where the novel shines, because if this was a typical ancient Chinese power-struggle novel I'd get tired of translating stuff, but no, we have:

Spoiler
    • undead soldiers
    • national religion turned evil cult
    • eldritch abominations (ewww)
    • Chubby, the cutest parrot in the world
    • Xie Huaian, the most lovable sickly beauty in the world
    • Hong Yao, the scariest but most protective emperor in the world
[collapse]

It's just so unexpected I can't help but read more you know? Hahaha. Feels like the author might've thought up even more backstory for the main characters and supporting roles, but didn't have time to fit that all in so we get hints and glimpses here. This fits the story itself very well, as we eventually find out that (big spoilers) :

Spoiler

the MC's memory loss means he can't remember his first time in this world either, or the friends, relationships, and deeds he did before.

[collapse]

There are quite a few touching moments that work well because it's not all about the MC/ML, but how their actions affected the people and world around them. After all, this "world" is alive too, and the humans in it think and feel things. The story's too short to delve into that in detail, but what it lets us see is heartwarming and genuine.

I also wished the story had extras! It deserves them!!!

As for why I gave it a 4.8 instead of a 5, that's really just me being picky. I think sometimes the author is a bit too subtle (but hey, rereading's fun) and other times the mood between MC and ML can get very intense when the yandere is strong (but ML is always gentle). If the story was perhaps a few chapters longer (I really wouldn't have minded the author fleshing out more side stories instead of just telling us what happened) and the switches in mood more smooth throughout, it'd get a perfect 5. But honestly, these are very minor points and doesn't detract from the story at all. Give it a try if you're interested! <<less

One of my favorite danmei I've read in a while. There are some very original feeling twists on usualtransmigration tropes that kept me hooked from the beginning. The translator recommends giving it a shot until at least chapter 16, which I'd advise too. Our MC starts out as an amnesiac transmigrator, so he is as lost as we are about the new world or his old life. The beginning sets up so many interesting threads that are very satisfying when they are all tied up at the end.

No spoiler things... more>> I enjoyed:

  • The MC has a chronic illness (made worse by his transmigration/system abilities) and the ups/downs are depicted realistically but not too much.
  • I enjoy hurt/comfort tropes and this one has so many ❤️
  • The MC and ML have a very satisfying relationship growth
  • The world building of the ancient xianxia dystopian setting is fascinating. It is also very dark at times, so beware the TWs.
  • Finished story with a wonderful translation! ✨
  • The side characters are distinct and interesting in their own ways
Minor spoilers of things I enjoyed:

  • Spoiler

The antagonist of the story is truly disgusting and despicable, in a unique and fascinating way.

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

The yandere ML holding back his darker impulses because he knows the MC would hate being caged and trapped is exactly my cup of tea. (Plus the flipside of the MC actually soaking up the doting and care from the ML)

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

Even though the MC is chronically ill and claims to be lazy and helpless, his true self is so heroic and selfless and his actions always show that. I definitely cried multiple times while reading.

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

The twist about the MC's transmigration was amazing and made me reread several chapters to pick up on subtle clues that I'd missed before

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

The system functions are unique, compared to other transmigration stories I've read. It gives the MC soothsayer skills, though minor ones at first like knowing the weather and it'll sap the MC's health if used too much. It is put to good use though throughout the story

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

The rebuilding of the empire after the defeat of the Emperor is so rewarding to read, with a lot of thought put into so many different areas by the author

    [collapse]
Major spoilers for anyone who wants to know more before reading, even if it'll spoil some surprises and twists:

  • Spoiler

The MC remembers his past life in the modern world before his transmigration, but doesn't remember that he's actually transmigrated to this world before.

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

The Emperor (ML) realizes pretty quickly that the MC seems to be his beloved teacher reborn. He dedicated himself to making changes to the world in the hopes his teacher would return and wants to make sure the MC doesn't leave again

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

The antagonist is the leader of the Heavenly Saint Church and has been an evil, insane dictator for nearly two centuries. The country suffers terribly under his reign. It makes his defeat and the rebuilding of the country especially satisfying.

It was fun riding story to me! I thought of skipping one or two chapter when it comes to just describing how the country state are during the Heavenly Master's control but I am not regretting my choice of reading it all and finished it after 3 days🥰 the author did a good job writing this novel and also an amazing work of the translator for translating this masterpiece novel ⁽⁽ଘ ( ˊᵕˋ ) ଓ⁾⁾
