It's a fairly basic story with the twist that he actually put in 60 years of effort before the MC's fail-skill became a cheat. The part that ruins it for me is the basic premise.

The MC cuts ties with the FMC because he's holding her back, saying he'll gain strength and catch up with her.

After 60 years she's still single, still loves him, and is still waiting for him... Dude, who cares if you're weak, stop torturing the poor woman!

I get that's the whole premise. If characters in stories like... more>> this did the smart thing the story wouldn't be interesting. But it ruins it for me. <<less

While I do agree with bozakir that this novel is very fresh compared to the typical childhood friend want to be adventurers and I got a shitty skill genre so if your looking for a book around the same quality level than this one serves well.

Some of the issues I personally have with this book is I dislike how we had a 60 year time-skip and yet the main characters only real mental development is now saying "this old man" and yet there is no display of wisdom, nothing like... more>> him giving up and contacting his childhood friend (Or at least at some point in the time skip have him contemplating it and deciding against it due to pride) and especially since I just finished reading kidnapped dragons which has a lot of focus on character development it just makes the character feel very lacking to me.

My second issue is due to the author not being very good at concealing plot armor or pacing. So after 60 years (he is 80 at this point) he finally gets the skill to level 9999 which allows him to get stats for storing items, this part is fine. This issue is how much status he gets from each item he can store, for example a rock rather than giving +1 arm strength at 150 cap should be.01 arm strength with 150 cap. Having the values as high as they are even for super common items like rocks or herbs just makes the skill too overpowered to still feel realistic.
The second thing that was bad for manipulating the plot was how he instantly found some dead person with a martial art thing that gave him a skill, it would be better in my opinion to have him be happy and do little time skips as he collects different low-quality objects to obtain stats and later have him discover skills, and in my opinion said skills should be if you collect 100 [High quality sword] then after hitting max number that item can buff you do you unlock a relevant skill [Slash].
The third major issue in my opinion is how he instantly killed an S rank monster, having the plot flow in this way just devalues the concept of S rank, makes all ranks below S essentially worthless, and destroys the strength indicator for the novel. It would be better pacing in my opinion if he only gets small growth and maybe kills a C or D rank monster tops but it would be such an achievement for him that it shows us the reader the same of his growth. With an S rank monster rather than thinking "Wow, MC is awesome" it just makes me confused on what's strong and what's not, and if he is this strong from a bunch of random junk and is able to beat S than his abilities are too unrealistic. Idk, overall this is a trait I notice a lot in what seem to be newer authors where they quickly ramp up strength scales but generally that just destroys the world building or causes other issues. Almost all of the best books I've read have the strength scale of what is a strong entity scale over time where for example something like S rank is basically impossible to obtain, a human who has the strength is feared by humanity and S rank monsters are calamities, they won't be introduced for a long time to build up character and depth to the novel and a overall better feeling.
My final nitpick which is less an issue with the story and more my preference but I believe rather than him getting stats from his skills this would of been a more interesting concept if rather than gaining stats from what he stores which doesn't make that much sense he should rather gain the ability to store anything, thus giving him the ability to store incoming attacks, store force allowing him to unstore it and while it would hurt him launch him forward, ect. Which if used well could easily act as an overpowered skill with a massive demerit of needing to have enough stored.
Another possible alternative which would be I think difficult to write well but would greatly elevate the quality of characters would be to have him learn how to use artifacts and different artillery's weapons so by using storage he can constantly switch from something like a flame sword to a piercing bow.
And the best possible thread that I think would be insanely difficult to write in a way that feels natural would be to have him accept his skills and use it to support his childhood friend, essentially becoming a porter. It would take a lot of character development on both him and the childhood friend but if the story went from him feeling insecure towards her and then developing to become a portion of her strength by giving her the ability to constantly switch weapons, dismantle pray allowing her to hunt more efficiently, storing a lodging for her to relax in during travels, ect. Where the two can become at least somewhat dependent upon each other while sorting out his inferiority and her feelings of loving him while thinking he isn't strong would create a wonderful story if written properly in my opinion. Although all of these are based on what I view makes the best book (which is world and character development) so especially if your newer to this site than this genre probably isn't what you would like. (From what I've seen newer readers generally like to read the trope filled type novels before reading enough content to be able to predict all tropes which leads them to looking for better and better content where you eventually get to where I am where 99% of the books on this site I believe have one issue or another that could be worked out better if written in this way, so if this type of novel is something you like I recommend enjoying it to the fullest) <<less

i would say this is an interesting premise for the classic weak to strong trope but keep in mind it ends abruptly and will be unlikely to continue so if you want to read this keep in mind that fact

I might change my score later. But so far I am scoring this 5 star purely because it's fresh. Story is not that good to be honest. I am still giving it bonus points because of setting being fresh. Childhood friend genuinely likes MC and tries to help him. She is not a backstabber. And MC is a hardworker. Instead of getting a cheat next day and s*ave waifu day after he put down the effort to keep his promise he made to himself and childhood friend.
