I, Charlotte, the daughter of a count who was raised strictly by my parents to be able to do everything, became engaged to Leinhardt, the legitimate son of a duke.

My sister Milim cries that it is not fair. She claims that I am the reason why she is sick.

Leanhardt, who had long been infatuated with her sister’s reputed fairy-like beauty, abandoned me so easily when he heard the story.

“Your sister is more beautiful than anyone, but I knew you’d be better.”

Soon after, Leanhardt came to try to get back together with me.

No, it’s too late for that since I’m already going to marry the crown prince of a neighboring country.

I’m grateful to my parents for giving me a strict education in a wide range of ancient and modern knowledge, as well as languages.

For some reason, my sister was spoiled like a child and had no education or anything. She grew up to be selfish.

It's a typical low-quality JP novel. The novel has 53 chapters in total and I couldn't even be bothered to read the last 4-5 chapters. I have skip-read chapters from 35.

Short summary - MC is perfect and raised strictly, MC Sister is beautiful but spoiled s*upid by typical biased parents. MC Sister always likes to snatch MC things including her fiance (lol). MC fiance has actually had a crush on MC Sister (pretty face right?) And when MC Sister demands MC give up the fiance, he runs right to MC... more>> Sister. So fiance is tr*sh too. ML is typical 'in-love with MC and not enamoured with MC Sister'.

Why did ML fall in love with MC? Coz of her character? HELL NO! MC has no character. She is a wooden board in the entire story. I don't see her intelligence or smartness or anything of her. People 'say' she is smart or talk about how much intelligent she is but none of her actions in the novel gives rise to this. In fact, I don't think she has any actions at all... She's a doll who listens to whatever other characters say loll

Funnily enough, MC Sister has more character (presence in the novel and not in the good/ bad character sense) even though it's absurdly over-exaggerated in typical JP fashion.

All in all, I got interested because of the TL (which is super good, great work translator-san). But the novel is a big MISS. <<less

I know what they were trying to do: write a genre-savvy twist on the typical "sacrificing elder sister, sickly, favored, younger sister" stories by having the ex fiance quickly realize that beauty isn't everything and regret his decision. I'm kinda ticked the results are so, so bad, because this would have been so much fun to read in the hands of a better writer.

It honestly reads like something a heartbroken middle schooler scribbled during study hall as a bit of self-deluding comfort after she got dumped by her first boyfriend.... more>> Its not the translation; the writing is that childishly bad. <<less

I think this novel doesn't qualify as for the betrayal and regret genre that other reviewers are describing it as.

It's only as I've read the last chapter that I've realised that Charlotte isn't really the protagonist but instead is the observer and narrator of the tragedy. Her main emotion towards the events seems to be disappointment with a trace of exasperation. Her ending was never in much doubt, the better proposal was received before the annulment.

If I had to say who the story is about, I think that goes to... more>> Miri, she's the cause of the majority of what happens and the character with the most interesting ending. Besides Miri, the parents and the Dukes have their own sub-narratives showing their failures and tragedy after Miri instigates them. Miri is definitely the most explored though.

If you come into this expecting Charlotte to be the FL/MC who gets revenge or discovers happiness after having her heart broken then prepare for disappointment. This is Charlotte's facepalm time as she and her new relatives watch the self-destructing characters finish digging their holes.

The reason I've given this a 4 star rating is that I leave feeling empty. This is a tragedy in the classical Shakespeare sense of meaning. I can't say I'm happy with how the characters ended up, even the happy/good ends have a bitter taste. Should you read it? No idea. It's relatively short but I have mixed feelings. Perhaps We can best say that this story is a delicious potato. Miri likes delicious potatoes. <<less

Just as a base most of the novel felt rushed, in these 31 chapters there is barely anything related to the ML's childhood and how he fell in love other than a single line. The line about how characters in a novel can't be smarter than the author is very true in this case, our MC is suppose to be intelligent but she does basically nothing, the duke was suppose to be raised properly yet his entire thought process is equal to a 12 year old's, overall every single character... more>> in this novel is just overall lacking causing the story to be very stiff and not immersive. The "love" between our MC and ML is close to non-existent. There's no sweetness like most romance novels have of them growing closer or anything, its just "Your more cultured about our culture than our own citizens so your the best match for me" with very little else. As for the MC little sister while I know she was just written to be s*upid if her character actually existed they would probably have a mental illness, which creates a dark undertone to this entire book. All of her thought processes are close to a little kids that lacks social etiquette and while I know close to nothing about mental illnesses it seems similar to how someone with a mental illness might act. If the little sister didn't have a mental illness then even without an education she wouldn't act this way... She might be spoiled and greedy but her character would be more cunning, thought processes like "If I cry then I can obtain what I want" but in her inner dialog she is acting confused on why people are upset and not acting cunning at all. Under this impression while I haven't actually read that far in the book for it to happen the ex-fiancés little brother has had lines about "Education" which is just straight up ab*se and since it seems like she has a mental illness its disgusting that the author felt the need to add this part. (I'm adding this for the type of people who aren't very empathetic towards characters and don't care if the story is sexist or anything like that, I generally agree. If the story is good and there's actual structure towards why something like sexism or ab*se exists in a story then I don't care or even think its a positive aspect to the story. The issue is in this story from how its going the sole purpose of this ab*se is because "Female lead was betrayed by little sister, now that female lead is gone her life will be horrible")

Overall this story just feels rushed, not very well done, and a bit disgusting if you read into things. Its a poor version of "I suffered but now I'm happy and everyone who made me suffer went to shit" genre. I'm still giving it two stars since the translation was good and its readable compared to some of the absolute garbage you can find but its not something I would recommend reading. <<less

So far the story is generic, it's about a selfish spoilt sister who's only merit is her face and a hard-working elder sister who luckily lost her fiancé due to her ex being an idiot. Also idiotic double-standard parents.

I like the story so far, nothing extraordinary though. Translation is great and easy to read. Line line line line line line line

Edit. The characters are one dimensional, so much to the point I'm wondering how some characters have been able to survive as an aristocrat. The MC is a super doormat... more>> kind of girl so I'm hoping for more character development. Fingers crossed, it's only chapter 14.

Chp 19. They just got worse got worse. <<less

Not worth the read. I meant to push 1 star but it became 2. If you just want to read a short story that is not based in reality and real human emotion this is the story for you. Even though it was rushed I wanted it to end faster.

You can somehow enjoy the story if you shut your brain out. It has a very generic premise and all, just.. Dumber. It might be because if its very fast pace, almost nothing explained and the events got resolved by the plot seemingly to be running when in actuality it was jumping.

Spoiler

I actually felt bad for the sister. She was spoiled and no one teach her anything. By anything I mean ANYTHING including common sense. I've NEVER read any character dumber than her. She could even make Bakarina seems smart. The only villains here are their parents. Talking about the parents, the most obvious plot hole is that with all the mess she made, how could she didn't mess up at any of the parties she attended at all? It's just so strange.

The MC's ex-fiancee's little brother (and by extend the duke's family) is an unnecessary victim too.

The sentences are patchy, not smoothly connected. Personally it felt like it's still in the draft phase, instead of a completed work. Each chapter is quite short. The expressions and thoughts of every single character are almost comical, though I don't mind that.

The ending of Miri is shocking to me, I didn't thought it was possible. Also, I'm unsatisfied with the lack of after marriage side stories.
