- There's some political intrigue and royal court shenanigans that one would expect from a Western fantasy setting. It's not the main core of the novel, and I'll admit I don't remember much about what bits of politics that get brought up in the story. It tends to focus more on the socialization of the nobility, as the MC Lucia has to navigate her upgraded position of Duchess.
- Then there's the actual main plot of the ML's bloodline and dark family history. No spoilers, but it does broach the topic of inc#st when speaking of characters outside the main cast (none of it occurs within the story). So if you can't stomach any of that, stay away. I personally found it intriguing, though not as intriguing as the part of the story that deals with Lucia's dream of a past life (and how come she has those dreams in the first place). These two plot lines add some nice mystery that gives the story more flavor from the standard Western fantasy.
- My favorite parts of the story are about Lucia's necklace, as well as Lucia telling ML about the things that happened in her dream/comparing her current life to her previous one. The former has that mystery I mentioned before, with a bit of world building tied into it, and the latter is some good hurt/comfort that acts as a reprieve to the smut. A lot of it also happens in the side stories, rather than in the main story.
Writing/Pacing- There's nothing in particular I can say about the writing. It involves quite a bit of introspection for both the MC and ML, which is neat to see.
- The smut felt fine to me when I read it, but thinking back I do agree with others in that the scenes can be samey and one-sided (with the ML taking the lead and the MC only on the receiving/passive end). It's also pretty annoying hearing the ML describe the MC's body as le*d for the five-millionth time -_-;;
Characters- The MC, Lucia, is definitely more of a doormat or mousy kind of character. She's quiet, a homebody, and has a strong sense of melancholy due to the horrible experiences she felt in her dreams/past life. I wouldn't call her a pushover, though. Just a bit on the meek side. She's a good gorl though I like her :<
- The ML, Duke Taran, is.................. he's a forceful one......... and he's very sexually aggressive. It's not as bad as it might be for other characters, since the author gives us plenty of chances to look into his mind and hear his thoughts. He's a lot more thoughtful than what some of his actions may suggest, and thankfully we do get to see him grow as a person through both his actions and his thinking. Could be better, but he could also be way worse so I'm counting my blessings.
- I feel like, aside from Damien the ML's son, the side characters could have been developed a bit more? Mainly, I wanted to know more about Jerome's life outside his position as the Duke's head butler (and also about his twin brother) but that's just personal preference.

TranslationAlso, I feel like the (male) Doctor character was wasted potential. For whatever reason, he did help Lucia in her past life with no discernible ulterior motive, but it never gets brought up in the current timeline. Lucia never even really gets the chance to confront him on this. Instead, he's very one-note and a flat character when it comes to the Taran bloodline, which is a damn shame since he's the closest thing this story has to a proper villain :/
- The translation was fantastic. There were a few helpful footnotes that mitigated confusion and clarified a few things (one that sticks out to me was about the ML's two names, and how they're pronounced differently but still sound very similar). 10/10 on the translator's part I love it great work
TL;DR - A somewhat typical slow burn romance story set in a vaguely Western fantasy world, with a bit of mystery thrown in as well. There's a lot of the MC and ML sharing their thoughts to the audience, that lends to a more mature tone amidst the sorta bland smut scenes. Personally, I think it lends itself more to the webcomic adaptation when it comes to storytelling, as there's a better balance of the plot moving and character introspection. Not a bad read though!
