Cheng Liu successfully found a boyfriend half a year ago, but unfortunately she was too busy and work kept her running around. Apart from giving him some red envelopes, she had no time to accompany her boyfriend, which caused her boyfriend to complain on the phone that their relationship has faded.

Cheng Liu: It seems that the feelings are not so strong, right?

However, in order to cultivate this relationship (and maintain the status of not being a single dog), Cheng Liu still decided to come back early from a business trip and hinted in WeChat when she would come back, thinking that her boyfriend would understand.

On the day the plane landed, Cheng Liu scanned around the arrivals area, and sure enough, she saw a tall, handsome man in the crowd.

That’s right, that must be her boyfriend! It’s just that she hasn’t seen him for such a long time, and now he seems to somehow look better? Standing in the crowd, he looks so good-looking that he seems to shine!

Cheng Liu stepped forward and took the bouquet of lily-of-the-valley from his hand: “I’m back.”

A few days later, Cheng Liu took her boyfriend to go shopping, and they ran into a loving couple. The guy panicked when he saw her, and immediately let go of the woman’s hand.

But then the guy started accusing her: “It turns out that you haven’t shown up for half a year because you’re cheating on me!

Cheng Liu: “???”

I love the FL chases the ML type of stories. So I liked this one as well. Like many other reviewers said, this is a role-reversal of stereotypical ML / FL. ML is reserved even in bedroom matters, FL is the one that's always taking initiative and ML gives off this typical shojo FL angst, like what-if she leaves me for another. The co-incidences are the usual rom-com like.

I MTL'ed the chapters that are not translated yet and honestly it felt like am reading a BL 😂 and the third-person... more>> gender confusion that is typical with MTL didn't help one little bit.

Anyway, give it a try its a good comical relief. <<less

Series translator here!

This story is pure rom-com—the hilarious, mistaken identity kind. And with amazing, flipped gender stereotypes to boot! Reading this, I could clearly see it play out, scene by scene, as a live action k/c-drama comedy series.

The main premise is simple enough. The FL—a genius, workaholic, domineering CEO with a bit of an eyesight problem—went to a dinner banquet and fell in love at first sight with a man she saw standing by the prow of the ship. Before the banquet ended, she went up to the rather opportunistic... more>> guy and convinced him to date her. Six months later, they've barely seen each other, she can't remember his name or his face, and she feels like 'dating is so meh?' She decided to give it one more chance and asked her boyfriend to pick her up at the airport. In a series of hilarious events, she somehow picks up the ML instead—an Ice Beauty, as pristine and beautiful as the flowers he works with but much, much colder.

The author takes this idea and just runs madly with it. The two undergo hilarious mental gymnastics to justify why one thought the other was her boyfriend, and the other thought the other was his.... bodyguard (ᅌᴗᅌ✿) They get along like this for several days until, of course, the misunderstanding is cleared up and the Real Chase begins.

The FL's internal monologues are one of the best parts for me. She has zero love experience and her taste in gifts is questionable, but she's determined to apply her formidable business acumen into wooing the Ice Beauty—market research on how to please your boyfriend, anyone?

The next best thing would be the supporting characters. As a tech whiz kid and big boss CEO, our FL's usual circle is composed of financially successful, middle aged men 20 years her senior. Bless their gossipy souls, they become her main source of inapplicable courting tips and more hilarity ensues.

I think some people get upset feeling that the FL is superficial, that she only likes the ML because of his face—but that's the whole premise of the story. It's a comedy about mistaken identity. It's just the way the story is set up, and the FL really commits to her role as 'girlfriend', and eventually, pursuer. She's not a scumbag CEO looking for pretty faces to bed left and right—she's a workaholic who barely even left the office before she embarked on this merry chase. The FL just fell and fell hard—for the 'wrong' man (´∀`) <<less

"Emotions have nothing to do with the length of time."

I never thought that I would like this so much. Specially that the main story is 101 chapters, gosh. Even Wang Hongyang became a likeable character.

Our FL is smart, confident, and the girl boss who knows exactly what she wants. She was like, "Chaozou is mine. Don't even think about it", to the b*tch. And when ML's father said that ML is also possessive just like his mother but FL said, "It's fine coz my possessiveness of him is just as... more>> much". Yeah, it was actually portrayed perfectly during their intimate moments.

Our ML. He's cold and indifferent. Seems nonchalant to everything but he's actually cunning. Whenever the general assistant tried to do some scheming, he was like "don't play smart with me. While you're playing checkers, I'm already playing chess."

Spoiler

1st when FL was drunk. He Bai brought her porridge and posted on Moments but modified so only ML can see it. So ML said to FL, "I want porridge for dinner and have it home cooked". So they ate at FL's villa, the plating and table was arranged as how He Bai did that morning. Then our FL, of course, have to take a picture and flaunt it in Moments. 😅

2nd. Was when He Bai posted 9 photos consisting of him being with the FL for 9 nine years, since univ days to present. To reiterate that ML is the outsider. But then, ML posted a photo but modified so only FL can't see it. That was him taking a selfie in FL's bedroom, saying good morning. 😂

What I like the most are the sexy scenes 🤤. Our FL, a top student, of course have to gather adult materials. So be it european, american, south korean or japanese, she have it all. Even a summary report at the end was present. She was like, I'm already a master of theory amd was only lacking actual experience.

So, she ordered 35 boxes of family planning supplies and have it delivered to ML's villa. 1 was put on the sofa, in the mirror cabinet, corner of the bathroom, of the stairs and even in the kitchen. All was discovered by the ML, and he was like, "Is she gonna suck me dry?".

Spoiler

1st. Was when FL was so thirsty and ate cubed ice. She melted the ice with her hands and dropped it on ML's collarbone and drunk it.

It's a pretty decent slow burn romance novel. The gender roles are kinda flipped in this one when you compare it to other novels in the genre that would have an "overbearing CEO ML" and a "delicate MC/FL."

The Pros:

  • FL that has ambition. If she wants it, she'll work to get it; she is fully devoted to her growth/work but knows when to divide private life and business.
  • Perfume. With this being slow burn romance, I admired how the author incorporated scent (ML's job) to be sensual yet not cross any boundaries. The factor of smell is definitely underrated and well done in this novel.
  • Some supporting characters are quite fun and some of those comedic lines had me guffawing (thinking of the Great Wall of China joke regarding the MC jumping the wall between the two houses).
The Cons

  • The building upon their family backgrounds is a bit strange.
    Spoiler

For the MC, that tidbit about her brother being in S city and the suggested tension in her family ended up being redundant.
Regarding the ML's family, it's vague as to what happened to his mother and why the ML also harms himself, as well as his PTSD to heights. My conjecture is his mom, from the building emotions of feeling avoided by ML's father, decided to jump but lived. It isn't explained exactly why ML harmed and starved himself, but it's probably depression from family matters.

    [collapse]
  • MC can be frustratingly blind due to being a bit nonsensical/having a lack of awareness.
My true rating is 3.5/5, but I rounded up for enjoyment factor. Wish there was maybe a bit more angst or drama since it was almost too smooth sailing.

It has been quite fun to read so far. Both FL and ML interpret their interactions with each other so differently and funny misunderstandings keep pilling up. I can't decide which one of the two is more to blame, both are special in their own ways. Also, a bonus is that FL is rich and successful all on her own.

Whether it stays a good read is too early to tell, as long as it sticks to comedy and not devolve to face slapping drama as many chinese novels do, I... more>> think it will stay good. <<less

Female lead is a bit too persistent and doesnt know the word "boundaries ". She keeps pushing him off his limits and making him uncomfortable. She's insensitive and decides stuff on her own.

Dropped it. I would recommend it to others tho cuz they might like this set up.

This is a must read book!!!

First of all, this is a light hearted read where there are no angst. And the romance is slow burn. It takes time for the couple to get together, but after they are together, the romance scenes were out of expectations. Hmm...

The female lead has a very outgoing personality and she is very smart and somewhat cunning as well, when it comes to her business. As for her men chasing skills, which is one of the main points of the novel, they are hard to... more>> say no. She is very proactive when it comes to her love life. Infront of the male lead she is shameless and wild.

Moving on to the the male lead, in the beginning of the novel, he is cold and aloof, appearing to be untouchable. He tries to keep the female lead away from him. But later when he fell in love, he gets jealous and it is then where his sly personality comes out, to fight his love rivals.

All in all this is a good novel, you can read with a smile until the end. <<less
