Hi, I'm the TL. Tldr: 6-star potential, downgraded to 3 stars due to low-energy writing a few hundred chapters in, rising to 5-stars due to good recovery at chapters 600+, and downgraded again to 3 stars since nobody will ever want to read past author's artificial bottlenecks.

This novel begins with a premise that contains very high potential, combining the mysteries of the 'infinite' CN genre and some universe/rank ideas akin to The Legendary Mechanic. In fact, by shedding the limitations of NPC-state interactions whilst maintaining asymmetrical knowledge, the 'Virtual Universe'... more>> quickly becomes an especially engrossing plot device which has characteristics quite original to webnovels (according to my 100s of fantasy/VR/city life novels read).

Without going into too much detail, the author states in various remarks that novel is 'not of the self-torturing type' (mild self-fulfillment and no inescapable situations), will not be neutered by censorship (read: not contain 'controversial' political ideas), and 'is not a harem novel' (single partner). Abiding by the context of sci-fi, the balance between tension and OP-ness is well-kept by introducing increasingly powerful civilizations and their corresponding technologies and superpowers.

The author also pays attention to the issue of scale: most authors generally convert quantities to arbitrary terms (power=9999999=???, distance=a lot=???), but this author always reminds readers of the relative amount of X in relation to X. For example, the energy in oil=x, compressed oil=10x; light year=~10 trillion km, radius of y=3, 000 light years; surjectivity of power scale A to power scale B... In the end, the author keeps the novel much more realistic than a sci-fi serial has any right to be.

Unfortunately, the competence of the author himself is, euphemistically, below average. He bungles the reader's interest in the development of the MC by creating giant bottlenecks in his upgrade pathway, oftentimes requiring tens, or even hundreds, of chapters to advance just one level.
Spoiler

At every N+ rank, the level progress is stuck at 1% until the MC obtains some exponentially increasing amount of resource points. This would not be problematic if the author simply stated that the MC's level of 'knowledge' increases in the meantime (knowledge is power etc.), but apparently the author doesn't realize the fact until 500+ chapters in. Also, the author 'conveniently' ignores available sources of energy for upgrades if they were to speed up the plot; nuclear power is NEVER used between the transition from oil to energy crystals even though it is far more accessible than the latter. Thus, we get the MC floffing around and not increasing his power while he is still aware of some ominous unknown threat.

[collapse]
This is, ultimately, due to the fact that the author had not decided if the novel was to be a fantasy/VR/city life novel (the age-old problem of choice).

Overall, this novel has a strong start, becomes extremely interesting at chapters 600+, but the quagmire in energy (noted by the author) in the middle will deter most readers (and basically all translators, including myself) from this potentially excellent work. <<less
