One day, Chase, who suddenly appeared in the village, tells an unbelievable story to his lover Isabella.

Ya'll Ima say it once and never again. I have a love hate relationship with this author. Theyre always make me sob DIABOLICALLY FOR THEIR BOOKS URGH.

If you want tragedy, look no further. This book is the perfect definition of it. This author has a distinctive way of writing, and its sooo beautifully put together. The chapters may be lacking in number. But you know what they say, quality of quantity. And even if u complain about the little chapters, 1 chapter literally takes me 30 minutes to read. And... more>> I AM A fast reader. So they're quite long, but enjoyable.

Lets get into my analysis review ig?

The genre and how the author uses it:

Normally I wouldn't put such simple stuff in reviews, However the author skillfully used the regression genre, and added their own mix to it. So it wasnt cliché at all! And felt super orginal. The book is refreshing in that aspect because it delivers the genres just like they ask. However I have noticed that the author has a strange habit of making her novels open ended in a sense? I hate and love it. Whe she did it in this book, I giggled a bit lol,
Spoiler

the author literally said "and they lived happily ever after" LMFAOOO ofc that wasnt the whole thing.

[collapse]
the author invokes the feeling that u regret moving on from the book after u finished lmfaoo. Wait im ranting.

Characters:

Julia (The protagonist) :
Spoiler

they protrayed her ptsd and obsession SOOO good. The author is extremely skilled with the psychology of a character. Julia felt like a relatable characters with MANY flaws. But she was still loveable although realistic. And felt like a real person. Many authors struggle with making complex characters these days. But the author did julia so well.

[collapse]

Chase (The male lead) :
Spoiler

once again chefs kiss. The author skillfully protrayed a traumatized boy that finally found happiness. There was no room for dissatisfaction due to his characters arc. I do have some pet peeves about how the author didnt dig further into his ongoing madness. And how he couldve had changed with a few bad coping mechanism. But then again this man was quite literally offing himself left, right and center. I remember making a joke while reading the earlier part of the novel, that he was a harem protagonist, cuz basically all the girls in the friend group liked him. (Isabella, Rachel, and Julia) I definitely WANTED THEM TO EXPLORE HIS COLDNESS MORE URGHHH, SHUT UPPP I LOVE IT WHEN SSMILEY CHARACTERS TURN DEPRESSED BUT LOVING TO THEIR LOVER (i wouldn't say this in real life, cuz frankly thats messed up)

[collapse]

The friendships and relationships (Friends and villagers) :
Spoiler

I love how the author portrayed kid and teen friendships. And how not everything is just as we see it and not everything can stay the same. Julia hated Isabella (Chases first love in his first life) because Isbella was more prettier and loved than her. (Which happened because Julia was ab*sed by her mother as a child and never experienced love from the person she wanted most). We also see Julia and Chases relationship from other peoples perspective like Isabella, and Rachel (the 3rd and final friend from the trio of Julia and Isballa) and Rachel also liked chased but stopped because she knew julia and chase liked each other.

[collapse]

What I hated (i secretly like, cuz im a masochist)

Spoiler

I hated the ending, Absolutely deplorable thag u would give such a plot twist author (do it again) but wat I disliked actually. Like im not joking. Wat the side story, some may have liked it. But me personally, I wanted more julia and chase time. Like let them be FREE AND HAPPY OMG. But the side story had very important details that basically tied all the loose ends. Im still mad there isnt another side atory. F*ck you author! (Low key my fav author)

[collapse]

The final say: I love the novel due to the fact of the moral dilemma, and the self conflict. Julia is constantly fighting between the lines of love, rationality and and dread. She dreads a world without chase. But she loves a world without chase suffering in it. However she tried to rationalizes her decisions constantly. Pushing and pulling chase away. Almost like love bombing

Anyway I spoke too much, if u read until the end thanks. Means alot <<less

I don't usually translate (or even read) angst, but this is so beautifully tragically written that I had to! And no regrets, absolutely none! It's promoted as a tragedy, and by golly it IS a tragedy.

I truly love how the author showed and not tell.

Julia's descent into self-destruction and madness, Chase's loss of humanity, and the doom ending... plus the different villagers' perspectives... I love how the author guided the readers through all that. It doesn't feel repetitive despite it being kind of is. Makes you understand the characters' motivations,... more>> and love and hate them.

Spoiler

At the start of the story, I was thinking how can an ordinary naive village girl like Julia kill her crush/Chase? It's easier said than done to gather the determination, formulate a plan and actually put it into action. She isn't some sort of girl boss regressed/transmigrated/etcetc protagonist who accumulated knowledge and spirit from the many previous lives. Before her regression, and after her regression, she is but an ordinary girl.

But the author managed to show us how Julia slowly became desensitised to hurting others and herself, and also the backstory of why she is so obsessed with Chase.

[collapse]

The epilogue and side stories wrapped everything up pretty well.

Spoiler

It gave us a 'what if' happy ending, though at the end it still turns back to angst.

While the side stories explained how the story began, I kinda wished it delved more into Chase's insanity and love with Isabelle.

[collapse]

Of course, you might think I'm praising this novel because I'm the translator, but it's truly a joy to read (keeping in mind this is an angst), to slowly piece together the entire picture. But well, it's short, so even if you regret putting yourself through the tears and snot... it's short :D

I may pick up another tragedy someday, but until then, I'll be patching up my heart with some romance comedies ^^ Goodbye! <<less

None of the endings were satisfying. The first ending was a joke and I was full on laughing at its absurdity. And the second one was rushed and had plot holes (I would've liked it if we had more buildup).

However, the first 2/3 of the book was a good angsty novel and it was worth reading this just for that good ol' misery p*rn. 🥲 The author's great making you feel for the characters and I came to both love and hate Julia by the end. And my poor boy... more>> Chase deserves a

happy ending.

The first 2/3 of the book: 5/5

Overall: 3.5/5 <<less
