In order to escape from her male colleague’s advances, Ji Xi declared, “I actually like women.”

The male colleague did not believe her.

Drunk, Ji Xi rambled on, “I like President Qiao.”

After she sent away the male colleague, Ji Xi turned around, only to find her boss, Qiao Zhiyu, standing right behind her—

Their eyes met, and the atmosphere suddenly turned quiet.

Ji Xi explained with an awkward smile on her face, “President Qiao, I said that on purpose.”

Qiao Zhiyu stared at her and replied indifferently, “The company has no regulation on employees’ s*xual orientation.”

The corner of Ji Xi’s mouth twitched, “President Qiao, I really am straight.”

Meeting her again, she has regained her lost happiness.

Qiao Zhiyu: “I’m going to ask you something, don’t be stubborn.”

Ji Xi: “Yes?”

Qiao Zhiyu approached her, but her tone was affectionate and soft, “Do you like me?”

Yu Xi: “You taught me before to not put all of my hopes on other people.”

Qiao Zhiyu: “Then I’ll tell you again. I’m different, I can take care of you for the rest of your life.”

I rarely leave reviews but this novel really deserves some popularity and a proper translation (mtl is quite readable) .

This is probably the most realistic and mature cn yuri novel I've seen so far. Reading the description you would think of a typical semi-comedic plot with misunderstandings and drama. But the actual story cannot be further away from that.

All of the novel is simply about two people with difficult past who find comfort in each other and slowly develop their love. The plot is completely focused on romance without heavy... more>> sidetracking for career advancement or family relationships that are common for such novels. There are no sudden dramatic developments, no angst, no love rivals, no transmigrations or systems. Instead we get two fully characterised protagonists who act in a completely rational and believable way according to their backgrounds. The realization of falling in love, fear of the newfound feelings and final acceptance are beautifully portrayed for both sides of the couple.

Characters:

Ji Xi is not a shy new employee but a strong yet fragile person tempered by hard life. She attempts to build a better future but is reluctant to trust and open up to anyone.

Qiao Zhiyu is not a cold ceo but a successful yet lonely career woman. She wishes for family affection yet already gave up on finding love. <<less

7/10 rounded up

A simple but fun romance story! It felt very warm and healing, like a tight hug.

It was nice seeing a "first romance" in this kind of age and setting.

Some plot points were kinda shoved aside and never truly resolved. This really is "only" a story about romance. But it is a good romance.

Also, the mentions of autism were a little iffy, it seemed more like some kind of anxiety....

As I leave this review, I have finished the main stories, but not the extras yet. The writing is quite good, and the couple shares a lot of sweet, fluffy moment but for me personally, the novel feels monotonous. It's quite realistic in its depiction of day to day life of an office worker and some of their challenges but it's hard to stay engaged because there's rarely anything exciting happening.

The author also introduced some subplots that got resolved rather weakly or off screen. Some of them: ... more>>
Spoiler

Qiao Zhiyu's strained relationship with her family - what happened to her dead older sister? Lu Feng seemed interested in being closer to this older sister but no follow up on that? Also Lu Feng's crush on Ji Xi & if Qiao Zhiyu ever explained their relationship - nada. Credit for actually dropping some resolution to Ji Xi's deadbeat bio family but that's it? Whatever happened to the creepy investor? What about Lu Yi (?) who tried to make Ji Xi as her mistress? Chen Xu? Hello? Also might as well not introduce the side couple if they're just going to be forgotten wth.

Right. Those are some of the subplots that I can remember that remained unresolved or just faded away by itself. Very reminiscent of real life problems (jk).

I also feel like the author used the terms for mental health too loosely. Qiao Qing's being quiet/introvert/shy or at most, selective mutism, keeps being referred to as autism, the weather is described as bipolar at one point and I believe a main character is described as having PTSD, although this one seems pretty legit.

If you're looking for something sweet and fluffy about two office workers falling in love for the first time and working on their relationship then you might love this. If you want some plot aside from two people falling in love... you might find it here if you squint a little. <<less
