As a massive fan of comedy, I hereby declare this is one of the funniest series I have ever read. Gao Lingfeng is literally an epitome of a classic MC who wanted to achieve something, but in return, he suffers from his success positively.

Pouring his effort to become an immortal, everything is going against his favor.

MC has a similar vibes of Krai Andrey from 'Let This Grieving Soul Retire!' as he wants to retire from Emperor. He thinks his companions as a useful tool-friends, and he really loves his wife... more>> Empress. But it doesn't mean he doesn't want to get married. He priorities his greed of eternal life, so he is protecting his c*astity for a while. (Oh well, he can become a father of the many children once he desires to.)

Well, romance doesn't seem too forceful. It has a slow progress, and it seems the author is focusing on developing his character's own progression to become mature. Accepting his fate as the Emperor of the alternate world.

He thinks of his relatives as a key to his success (to get abdicated by force). Everything is really good. The character development could be found in the side characters. The good news here is, they have a decent and relatable personality that everyone will like. The world building is pretty normal. Well, I kinda love the Chinese novels which highlights their own history into the novels. Enough of the word 'sigma' here and 'alpha' here, the MC is normal. He has an ambivert personality.

Judge it based on its genre as 'comedy'. It is not an action pack of revenge or baring 'OP' MC. Thankfully, the plot doesnt follow a redundant and generic storylines so far. If there is, a few moments are added thus far.

So far, I wish the government or studio will animate this because it deserves a good anime adaptation. Because the author have written a wonderful world in his novel. Full of motivation quotes. Full of diversified culture that you can link in.

MC is boring for the others. But since we have a different flavors of taste, I like him as a 'normal' and 'relatable' MC who is wishing for immortal life.

Who doesn't want to live like that with OP system, lol? Maybe you too, lol.

Highly recommended for comedy and misunderstanding fans. I don't recommend this to fans of revenge and OP seeking readers because you will get bored or annoyed.

Thank you very much! <<less

It's a pretty good novel in the misunderstanding troupe. The Emperor (our mc) has heavy plot armor as always but it's a pretty funny and enjoyable read so I must rate it 4 stars. I've only read till 35 but the translation site has chapters till 300 or so I think.

Before others waste their time I’ll say a few things.

1. Really bad plot and writing, garbage food. It’s one of those close your minds and believe everything to be logical.

2. I continues reading knowing it was going to be fast food garbage, however the translation website has a paywall past chapter 57. Even the Chinese website has a paywall. There are no other sites either for the raw. (Not saying nothing bouta piracy but just mentioning it.)

The fact that this substandard novel is paywalled at chapter 57 just makes... more>> it not even worth consuming and wasting time for as garbage fast food. <<less

I don't know what rating to give yet, but I have something to comment on...

In those 10 chapters that I read, the only incompetent individual is the MC... all side characters are surprisingly competent and want the better for the empire, (this is more unreal than the system), and even those who wanted to get raided of the emperor have a legitimate reason (he was a useless guy after all).

Anyway, it is not a bad start but this is not enough to trust the rest of the story.

A classic "misunderstanding" troupe novel. The MC is transported to an ancient kingdom where cultivation exists, as its Emperor. He is then granted a system where driving the system to ruin will make him immortal. The novel then largely revolves around him trying his best to make decisions and appoint people he thinks will sabotage the fortunes of the empire. Except, as you might expect, nothing ever goes his way and everyone he appoints turns out to be loyal and talented subjects who work diligently to improve things. Every decision... more>> he makes is misinterpreted ends up benefiting the Empire greatly, which of course leads to everyone's increasing reverence of the MC. If you're into this type of plot, you'd likely be pretty satisfied with the initial progression. Its well-paced, well-written, and decently funny.

After a while the same core loop of MC makes decision -> subjects misunderstand -> good thing happens, gets a little stale as the MC never really tries anything new. He just keeps shuffling people around and chooosing the next seemingly bad decision, which always ends up doing something good anyway. But that in itself isn't the most glaring problem with this novel.

As tends to happen sometimes with these CN novels, nationalism rears its ugly head some time after the initial few arcs. Although the empire that MC reigns over is given a fictional name, it is clearly modeled after ancient China. The place names are unchanged and the geopolitical context similar. Through MC's actions, this "China" interacts with its various neighbours who, while having fictional names, are also obviously derived from their historical counterparts. The fictional "Mongols", "Korea", "Japan" are all portrayed unfavorably each time they appear; either clearly inferior or straight up subservient to the fictional "China". Below is an unedited excerpt, albeit from the translation:

As a hostage, Ashikaga Tsuzumi came to the Great Qian capital. Seeing the majestic city gates and the bustling streets, Ashikaga Tsuzumi was completely astonished. Compared to Great Qian, Wa Kingdom was just a rural place. Even the capital of Wa Kingdom couldn't compare to any city along the way to Great Qian.

...

The people of Wa Kingdom were like this. They worshipped the strong and attached themselves to power. They could shamelessly switch sides quickly if someone stronger appeared. And once they showed weakness, they would betray without hesitation. So the people of Wa Kingdom were undoubtedly jackals! But if handled properly, they could be good watchdogs.

This description of the fictional "Wa Kingdom" (really Japanese) people came completely unprompted by any story context. It really threw me for a loop the first time I read it. If this kind of overt nationalist flavour isn't your cup of tea then I suggest you stop reading past chapter 60 or so. If it doesn't bother you then this novel is a perfectly serviceable "misunderstandings" type novel. I personally can't see myself reading much further in. <<less
