At the age of nineteen, Aliyah Elevant, the daughter of a local lord, became the fiancée and subsequently wife of the king’s younger brother.

At first, she was confused by the marriage arrangement that was inappropriate for her status, but one day, she came to know the reason.

The king’s brother and her husband, Xeon Theaureole, had been harboring feelings for his brother’s wife, Cereza. However, since his older brother, the king, was frail, he had no heir to his name. Therefore, once the king had passed away, Xeon would succeed the throne.

Thus, in order to welcome Cereza as his wife after he ascended the throne, Xeon chose Aliyah as his wife as she’d be easy to divorce.

On the first part I was crying for Aliyah how sad and lonely she is to the way her husband treated her. And I 60% hate Xeon, yes he has his reason why he was cold to her why he treat her that way but could he not tell her or explain?! That he's in this situation atleast can we pretend not to love each when people are around act like your depressed or something?! And I hate him more because he kissed another woman even though he's already married... more>> and he can't even kissed his wife, he regretted it but I still hate him.

I know this is a oneshot but I was frustrated when Aliyah forgive him easily atleast make him suffer you were tormented emotionally for more or less five years and you just forgave just like that?!

Well we don't have this flow if there's no misunderstanding ¯⁠\⁠_⁠ (⁠ツ⁠) ⁠_⁠/⁠¯

I truly recommend this one shot, if you are like me and steer clear of tragedy tags but love the occasional angst, this story has my word.

it’s a lengthy story compared to most one-shots, and the author did an wonderful job with tying everything together.

I cried so much during the story, the author was able to really flesh out the details to help you as the reader connect to the world. I found that the characters had dimension to them. The world building (to me) was realistic and I loved... more>> the entire premise of the story.

All my spoilers will be vague on purpose.

thoughts on the husband

Truthfully I wasn’t expecting to be able to like the husband. The story really tugs at your heart for our protagonist so when we switched to his perspective (I love switching povs) I was convinced there would be no way to redeem him. However the author did a great job of showing his thoughts and validating his actions. Allowing me to emphasize with him.

My view on people’s complaint

At the end people weren’t completely satisfied with the husband’s redemption arc, and held anger towards him. It’s understandable but please have an open mind while reading the story and give it a chance. For me I felt like he did everything he was capable of doing and his only real selfish action was bring the FL into the whole situation. Another point people commented on was how easily she forgave him, while I agree and love a good grovelling arc, i’m not entirely upset we didn’t get one, this one shot is already a decently long read and I appreciate it in all its corniness.

In conclusion, this might not be everyone’s cup of tea but as a one shot lover if you do go ahead and read it, I hope you enjoy it.

It's obvious from the title that this is a Regret Novel, and the Tragedy + Smut Genre label guarantees that the story is the opposite of a pleasant one. I find it hilarious that people rated this low because the story was indeed very tragic. Read at your own risk.
