Even if I’m a Fake Heiress, I Will Dare to Be Trashy

At the age of 12, Shen Yue accidentally fell into a pond while feeding fish. That’s when she realized that her parents were not her real parents, and her five brothers were not her real brothers either. She was just a fake heiress to the Shen family!

Knowing she was destined to lose everything, Shen Yue decided to just lie down and give up. If she was going to lose it all anyway, she might as well just lie down and relax.

“Big brother, is working at the company fun? Let me check it out,” she thought, wanting to enjoy the perks of being a Shen daughter while she still could. Those luxuries would be out of reach soon enough.

“Second brother, is acting fun? Let me give it a try,” she schemed. What? They pay you just to lie still like a corpse? This is a job she had to get!

“Third brother, is that gun realistic? Let me see,” she said, examining the firearm. Not bad, though the recoil is too strong. She’d need to find a smaller one to play with next time.

“Fourth brother, will the teachers be mad if I sneak into your research institute? Let me take a peek,” she plotted, eyeing her handsome professor. A little hugging wouldn’t hurt!

“Fifth brother, that medicine you’re working on smells nice. Mind if I try a little taste…” she asked casually before sampling it. Tastes good! But now my head feels itchy—I better not be growing a brain!

On the day the real heiress returned, Shen Yue’s five brothers shielded her behind them. “Dear sister, can we keep her with us? She’s a bit slow, it’d be dangerous for her out there alone.”

The true heiress scoffed coldly, masking her sly intentions beneath a guise of innocence.

But in the end, she realized this Shen Yue really was quite dim-witted. Oh well, might as well let her stay.

i liked this one especially FL laziness and her interactions with her siblings I would have liked it mor if it weren't for author trying to add excessive plot I literally skipped it

at the starting it was good kind of fluffy but at a later stage I just suddenly loose my interest and stared skipping it too much

Starts out okay. But as the variety show arc drags on you get the feel for the author's quirky eccentric takes, like the stuff with the pineapple. And then it goes downhill or more like an entire genre flip. Other reviewers seem to enjoy the twist, but I didn't. I just wanted to read something simple and maybe even a little familial warmth, but the author took things very seriously. Just not my cup of tea.

Read this if you like Family growing together, a cute and kinda smart-dumb FL, and Sci-Fi.

I suggest you skip 112-218 if you don’t want the sci-fi prison time travel NanBaka-ish portion. I did, might go back to it later, but it wasn’t really necessary to enjoy the family bonding portion. Adds lots of back story and intro to new characters but not really needed.

Don’t read this if you can’t turn off your brain and need to look into the Sciences that are sprouted throughout the story.

Was enjoyable till about 60-75 chapters in. After it got boring and the plot got lost with this time travel change thing and it became less and less interesting as the novel went.

Greatly disappointed with how the novel was written, cause it started out so good but went down after Reading a bit into the novel.

Would never read again.

Really good story. FL is smart and lazy. She wants to be salted fish while she can. With memories of her prison life and the life lessons from other prison inmates, she inadvertently conquers her family and many fans in her new/current life. Translation is excellent and updates frequently.

A refreshing take on the fake/real daughter swap trope. The title and summary really underscore just how dark this gets due to the prison arc and its subsequent effects.

TW: Prison arc has sui**de and self-h**m. Mentions of sui**de still get mentioned afterwards

Romance takes a back seat to familial love, and it's great to finally see someone who fits the "OGFL" bill NOT be antagonistic to the FL in something Chinese. This webnovel was able to side-step what I would consider to be the two big mainstays of the fake/real daughter... more>> swap trope: 1) the non-FL daughter is NOT set up as an antagonist (real or fake, if she's not our FL, she's usually made to be the bitter antagonist, and I always hated that).

Spoiler

2) the ML is NOT one of the brothers, thank GOD. It's also nice that he is fully aware that having feelings for FL when she was still a minor while he was 20, on top of his position of power, was a scummy thing.

The age gap itself is nothing outrageous (5 years), but it's the fact that they met when she was 15 that makes it iffy. Waiting for a girl's 18th birthday does not magically make it ok and way less creepy. He knows full well that it's not kosher, and I really respect that this gets mentioned.

This webnovel DOES blur the line though considering FL's probably mentally older than him (or at least the same age as him) with all her memories back, and that he doesn't/can't really overpower her. So the kinda predacious elements of the age gap are rounded out some.

But also, when the ML's memories finally catch up to the FL's, he's just an adorable mess. A sweet bbg

[collapse]

I feel like it's too easy for a lot of these types of stories to fall into this pit.

Another element I really like is that I couldn't really tell who was end-game since the romance was so light. FL's relationships to the love interests were complex and layered, with each having their own obstacles at the time.

Not great parts: choppy and inconsistent translation, some parts are duplicated, one paragraph looked like it was from a future chapter or extra, but it was never mentioned again by the time I got to the end. Also it definitely felt bloated with all the "educational" stuff thrown in (math, science, history, etc.), like the author was paid by the word or something.

It's a solid 4.2/5 for me, so a 4 star rating. If the translation was cleaned up a bit more, it'd sit closer to 4.5, and I'd be willing to round up just to pull up the NU score <<less

I like silly Chinese comedies in which there's something wrong with the way the characters think, in that their brain paths go in ways that normal people would never go. This is definitely a story in which the whole family thinks in weirder and weirder ways, and with everyone that gets introduced, they get worse and worse. It's a cute family dynamic between FL who just wants to sleep and how she unintentionally and intentionally provokes all her siblings into getting along like a real family.

The description really fooled me... more>> into thinking there was a lot more family bonding with her brothers who would think almost normally, like straight men to her comedy. No. These brothers are all crazy. Her sister is worse though, but I haven't seen enough of her yet even if that author's note makes me a little wary. Still, all the family bonding is cute and funny enough, and their dynamic just plays so well off each other.

If there's a prison tag, it should be added.

Spoiler

I am not loving the prison arc since I signed up for unhinged family fun-time and I'm getting approaching end of the world in a messed up jail, but it's super interesting so I'll keep reading. I'll come back to update on how I'm feeling after I'm done, but so far it's just a little hmm. It's also not really funny anymore here, but I'm willing to stick it out to get back into the main timeline and see how FL interacts with her sister.

Enjoyable. The way Shen Yue doesn't forcefully try to get on people, especially her brother's good side. She just didn't bother thinking how her words/actions affect them and did her own thing. It's fun. Although when first brother brought the real daughter home, Shen yue suddenly fell unconscious and remember things in her prison life.

(How shen yue enters brother hearts)

first brother: asked if he ate yet. (First time someone asked about his well-being)

second brother: relied on him (he's not a genius like the other brothers so first... more>> time being relied on)

third brother: she became his new leash after first brother let go (obedient person who only listens to orders to first brother)

fourth brother: said he cried beautifully (can't control his years, used to get picked for crying despite being a boy. First time someone said it)

fifth brother: said there's nothing to be afraid of (mad medical genius. Doesnt Understand how Shen yue doesn't care because she doesn't bother to think.

Shen Hui: I'm also a little curious about their relationship. In the time travel, it seems they are close

Ma sha

Spoiler

I really really like her. She's the eldest sister in prison that shen yue would bring up occasionally. They became roommates when shen yue arrived at prison. She likes how honest Shen Yue is and began taking care of her. Worried Shen yue would be tricked, she taught her many things. Slept together, ate together, hung out together. Her backstory is pretty sad and kinda weird. She treats shen yue like a little sister. I love the scenes when ma sha and shen yue are together, so wholesome. She died due to a political sh*t in the prison. Now shen yue has her ashes (that she carries with her) and she wants revenge.

It's an ok read. It starts very good, but turns progressively worse later on.

This isn't a novel I can heartily recommend as of chapter 174.

Spoiler

Basically it starts out as comedy with a bit of drama and changes its tune and tone later on to something more serious when the real daughter is brought back. It also introduces some needless "weirdness"? "Fantastical"? Elements without really needing to.

It was an interesting read XD

I really wish I could read more about the siblings bond because it was honestly the best part! This novel has two arcs, one about the current timeline and one in her 'past' where she had been gaining all her experiences in prison.

I wish it was fully translated because mtl'ing the prison arc while trying to read thru the night was lil rough... but overall a good read and entertaining enough.

The reason I decided to write a review is that this novel is hard to judge without reading it in full. It consists of three major arcs, and the genres of these arcs are totally different, which prevents you from understanding full picture outright. Synopsis and first arc are very misleading because author doesn't explain anything from the very beginning and unravels all the background slowly instead. But this is not a light comedy at all, so be prepared.

The first arc starts off as a standard lighthearted face-slapping comedy about... more>> fake miss in an inharmonious wealthy family. Be it MC or the rest of the Shen family, they look like one-dimensional characters where the author raised one or two of their characteristics to the extreme to differentiate between them. All brothers and sisters have obvious mental problems and don't feel like living humans (which can be blamed as badly written characters). The bonding between siblings looks abrupt and unrealistic if judged from the perspective of a normal healthy person. But because nothing is explained at this point, their behavior can be off-putting.

The second arc (so-called prison arc) abruptly turns the story into heavy drama. Lighthearted comedy no more. While explaining the background of the story and Shen Yue's growth as a person (more like her transformation into living person, I would say), this is a long arc full of dark side of human hearts, cruelty, egoism, manipulations and drastic personal changes that have absolutely nothing in common with the first arc. It transforms the perception of the novel completely.

Third arc is a fusion of the first two and completely unravels the mystery of the plot. While lighter than the second arc, it is mostly a story about pitiful, broken, deeply traumatized and mentally unstable characters trying to live a life of normal humans. Most of the characters of this novel are mental patients with traumatic experience, so all of them have a tendency for abnormal and sometimes extreme behavior.

The main genre of the novel is psychological drama, and sometimes pretty heavy at that. It is not a standard "face-slapping fake miss" story at all. But psychological aspects of the novel are really great, and bonding between characters and their changes are very touching. Just keep in mind while reading that their extreme personalities have reasons behind them and don't judge them too hastily. <<less

This is basically a perfect story. Every aspect of this is done perfectly to the point I can't criticize anything without being super nitpicky. The characters are all unique and well developed, the pacing is about perfect, the overarching plot is interesting and unique, and the writing is exactly as detailed as it needs to be without any excess or lack. Everything builds upon itself and it becomes excellent. This is worth reading.

This is definately one of my favorite novels to read. The translations at some parts are not that great but the story overall overshadows this so still a 5/5 rating is given.

At first, I thought the story would be your typical novels, but as you read and learn the twist and turns you would definately be addicted in reading this. You would never expect that the novel is much deeper that what the summary states or the few chapters you would read

The novel also gave each character a perspective and... more>> endings so no cliff hangers on that.

Definately a MUST recommened novel! <<less

Loved it. A very memorable story. Why?

First of all, the plot summary is kinda misleading. You think it's a silly cute story about a fake daughter figuring out what to do now that she knows she's not the real daughter and will eventually be chased away. Then BAM suddenly you're hit with (SPOILERS) previous life, time travel, prison??? Yo this is crazy. It's like you thought you're sitting on a merry go round but halfway through it changes into a roller coaster and you're like wtf where am I???

Some people... more>> might not like that sudden change in genre but I found it interesting. At times there might be a slight feeling of dissonance due to the mix of elements but it's alright. The change becomes more apparent when it gets to the flashback prison arc. It's heavier and more serious. That's not to say that it doesn't have humor anymore but it's just very, very different than your average fake/real daughter story. I guess that's what makes it stand out to me. But to be fair this might not appeal to everyone.

The science behind the "time travel" is interesting as well. Btw questions always come up but are not answered immediately so you have to be patient (I'm not really but I had to endure) and the author will slowly release answers/explanations as the story goes on. This happens a lot so be prepared to be confused and then get the answer not soon.

This is a new way of "time travel" which was really intriguing to me. At least I have never seen/read such a thing before and I must give some credit to the author's creativity. The author has created a set of logic to explain how it all works. Because it's new, whatever the author says will make sense because it's their creation

There was a plot twist towards the end which to me felt like a plot hole deliberately created by the author just so that

Spoiler

either SY won't be the only one with memories of the last timeline or more people can talk about it therefore creating more space for the story to go.

It is only at the 4th last chapter that it is explained why those ppl could receive memories of the last timeline but I didn't quite like it. Maybe bc I felt that the logic for the explanation kinda overrides the previously established logic regarding memory transfer / time travel and the conditions required.

[collapse]

Besides the plot twist/hole, the only other dissatisfaction I had was the romance which I felt wasn't really necessary but oh well.. I liked everything else. Characters have well defined personalities and traits and never act OOC, unless stimulated (after which it will be explained clearly and it just makes sense). They are 3-dimensional and aren't there just for the MC to stand out.

All in all, would recommend to give it a shot. <<less

I expected lighthearted familial love story after reading the description but after skimming through the reviews, I knew the story was more than that. It also had angsts but if you want to stick to familial love and romance between MC and ML in the later chapters, you could skip the prison arc like what one of the reviewer suggested.

Of course if you skipped it, you would miss back story that could explain MC's subsequent action but I personally think it didn't matter because you still could understand what happened... more>> (although only briefly) through the scattered flashbacks and walking down into memory lane.

Overall, I think this story was quite refreshing and wasn't like other fake and real daughter's story where the real and fake daughter hated each others. On the contrary, MC and the real daughter had a good relationship and they became sisters for real. Of course there were some things that made me disappointed such as:

  • There was no sense of time in this story. Sometimes, I feel like everything happened in a natural flow but it turned out, several years had already passed.
  • The villaines were defetead behind the scene and ML made it sounded so easy to capture them. Idk, I expect more from the villains who tormented Shen family for generations.
  • The romance between MC and ML seemed a bit forced, at least on MC's side. There's no doubt that ML loved her but as for MC, I still feel that she chose to be with ML because he's the one who treated her best and went along with it.

I skipped the entire memories arc, so I enjoyed myself a lot. The translator was considerate enough to mark all the memories arc chapters so you knew which one to tap on to go back into the siblings story. It's a jolly ride, with lots of random factoids, a good dollop of humour, and some worldly wisdom. 5 stars.

I continued reading even when the second hundred chapters were the way they were because I really liked it that Shen Yue’s sleeping habits and dumbness had reasons for them. She has emotions and reasons she’s commited to and they were /never/ disregarded just to make this a story about comedic misunderstandings and “winning while lying down”. In actuality, this story was as the author explained, very linear in three stages of Shen Yue’s emotional development and journey. So all reviews about being disappointed the story was psychological and science... more>> fiction and tragedy do count because of the synopsis and first 100 chapters are the way they are but also so are the reviews and the true winners, who read through, liked it, and got it!!!

My personal opinion is if this story did not get published, we would have never gotten those glorious extras, and the whole story would have fallen short. Hey, all the characters were beloved. And the more so because the past life chapters all had some regrets and from the readers’ perspective, if only they and Shen Yue and ML know about the past life, that would be disregarding the development and relationship everyone had already built with each other from before. So yeah, it just really tied well together.

Also if you’re deciding if you want to read this and don’t know if you want to read it because you don’t know who the ML is and if it’s good

Spoiler

It’s Si Chengyou. Tang Yi was unfortunately a little too broken already when he was introduced. I was also confused at first and wanted to root for Tang Yi but yeah, you probably should not, and in the end, you won’t. The way things went, I also actually did not want to root for Si Chengyou anymore because of what he did (I’m always sensitive about MC’s well-being), but as she said, it’s her choice. So yeah.

[collapse]

Time well-spent. I almost regret giving up sleep to read this when I knew I had to go out drinking with friends the day after. But yeah. Almost. :D <<less

A very interesting novel that pretends to be a silly cliche about the 'fake daughter' trope but actually is about questioning human nature and love.

The novel sets up many typical tropes in the beginning. The MC is a 'salted fish' and the brothers all fit a stereotype common in novels. Initially the reader is misled into thinking that there are a few emotional troubles but things are silly and sweet. Despite it though, there's a persistent sense of wrongness and one can't tell if things are deeper then they seem.... more>> And then the 'real daughter' comes back and everything you think you read breaks into pieces.

The main problem with this novel is that the translation is a cleaned MTL. The pronouns switch around; the names are sometimes wrong and occasionally there'll be a chapter where everything is disjointed. 80% of the novel is readable and I got used to ignoring the nonsense, but if you go in thinking it's a dumb potato chip novel, it's easy to lose interest. I think it's worth the read and the prison arc which I was dreading ended up being the most interesting part. Really wish it was a better translation though.

(read the other comments and it's kinda hilarious? That one gave low stars because the novel has time travel which is the MAIN PLOT FROM CHAPTER ONE and another thinks there isn't any plot at all. Amazing) <<less

My brain is not braining 😂. As an ordinary person, all I could say about the novel is that it was super cool and awesome. The MC is awesome, the author is also awesome. This novel is full of intense awesomeness, my brain can't keep up.

But seriously, I'm ranking this novel on equal footing with "Malicious Empress of Military Lineage". Because of how good it is. (Also, don't skip Prison arc, or you'll regret it.)

Edit: Props to the translators! If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be able... more>> to read such a masterpiece :) <<less

yowwww This was a nice story in dubious rebirth hahah you gotta read the story how mc/FL got to know some certain future/past memories. It is also exciting and intriguing on how MC got to mellow down her 5 brothers. All brothers have different personality and diff situation on FL to befriend them. Current story is a breeze for fl, she just want to be lazy and sleep hahaha. Also you will not know the ML until almost last arc/chaps of the novel. Half of the novel was about the... more>> story of FL BEFORE remembering past/memories+ her relationship to her family then other half is Prison arc. Her prison arc was full of suspense since you will not know what will happen next. Many deaths on prison life and a twist on how FL finally had her freedom from prison. Romance is near the end, all I can say is I am goods with who the ML is. Like yah man/ML finallly got his happy ending. He's finally got to live, defeat the so called villains and got his chance to have a relationship with fl. <<less

It was a good read. I had expected some cliches with comedy and family mending, but it had unexpected twists. I loved Shen Yue's laziness that reminds me of mine when I want to sleep more in morning. 😂 I also liked how her character growth was shown in prison arc.
Spoiler

I'll tell it in short.

We can see Yue getting through things, just mechanically following orders to becoming indifferent due to Shen Hui's death and later opening up to Ma Sha and becoming more broken because she dies due to Tang Yi. Then doubting everything when she was learning about human nature. Later Si Chengyou tries to let her get better by letting her learn how to love and care. And finally she regretted and decided to send back her memories.

And Shen Yishen's toads, they had to sacrifice their lives for noble cause of showing ruthlessness and craze of Shen Wu, Shen Shuangchen and Shen Hui. Hahahahahahahaha!
