The insect’s instincts were faster, and he quickly sensed her initial hesitation and the cautiousness that followed in her breath. He had scared her.

“I won’t…” Perhaps, after she snapped out of it, she would once again avoid him, and he hurriedly laid down on the floor, exposing his vulnerable belly and pleading for her mercy. “I really don’t want to, please, I’m truly scared.” As expected, his spineless and pitiful demeanor evoked her familiar look of disgust.

It seemed as if she didn’t want to look at him any longer, so she turned around and went back into her room. “Do as you wish,” she threw at him like a judgment before shutting the door firmly behind her.

He flipped over and lay on the floor, letting out a sigh of relief. “It doesn’t matter if you despise me. Just don’t make me leave.”

For a long time, he gazed longingly at the door that wouldn’t open again tonight, and then the c*ckroach crawled back under the sofa where he belonged. “Jiang Jiang, Jiang Jiang…” he yearned to sleep under her bed, even though she had long sealed off the space underneath it.
