Suddenly pulled into a world filled with Specters, Fang Xiu woke up with a unique ability: Reset. Every time he died, time would rewind to the moment before he was killed.

In this strange and dangerous world, Fang Xiu could have chosen to hide. Instead he announced to the world, “Yes, I’m a prophet. I can see the future!” As his predictions kept coming true, his title of the Prophet spread around the world.

His words became the truth. They became the future.

“I have seen the future,” he announced, attracting people from all around the world.

His followers took it to the extreme, declaring, “Should the Prophet decree your demise one day, don’t waver, don’t question, just obey. For hesitance only leads to a far graver fate.”

During a B-level Specter event, known as [the Spawning]

A teammate warned, “The creature is hiding among these villagers. We need to be careful.”

Fang Xiu pointed to the last row and commanded, “The one in white. Yes, you. Come out!”

In an A-level Specter event, called [Lantern Heads]

One teammate warned, “This area is crawling with thousands of Lantern Heads. If they shine their light on you, your head will fall off. The scariest part is the Lantern Heads float unpredictably. It’s impossible for anyone to get across safely. Wait, where’s Fang Xiu?”

Another stuttered, “He, he…he’s on the other side!”

The first teammate exclaimed in disbelief, “What?! How did he get across?”

The other replied: “He…he just walked over.”

Good but not great. The introductory chapters paint a gorgeous picture of this bizarre horror/mystery world that gets forgotten about shortly after the first arc ends. The author eventually leans more into 'edgy protagonist' cringe and rampant misogyny.

More on the misogyny: Not one single female character in this novel is portrayed positively by the author. The insane protagonists reasonable hatred/fear of beautiful women turns into author incel-esq descriptions of every woman. I’ll likely be dropping this soon just due to how the author is recently using the MC in deeply... more>> disturbing ways to humiliate and degrade women. <<less

MC is insane. cold blooded and absolutely raving mad. he kills people without consideration because he 'resets' everything when he dies.

don't read if you're a fan of 'oh, the timelines split whenever so-and-so goes back in time'. if that were the case, many of his 'past lives' would doom the world to despair through his actions and you'd feel horrible for the people he's (indirectly) pitted. I like multiple timeline theory but stick to one to get through this story.

tbh, I kinda love him. he literally lives for the sake of killing his 'wife' and has pulled through with only spite and vengeance.

he awakens a power through hatred and wanting everything in the world to feel the same pain he does. relatable. I feel like many die, rebirth stories have the main character be too chill about their deaths, often thinking about the next reset like deciding breakfast cereals. FX also thinks of his rebirth as a solution, but doesn't like turning to it much unless it's inevitable.

zhao hao is a hoot. his power is basically wet dreams? spectres are scared of his horniness hahahaha

also, the title in chinese is really... how should I put this, op MC harem-esque.

i like the kid in the first few chapters. all the children are accurate to real life children. (i may be exaggerating a bit)

edit: chapter 200

Enjoyable read the first hundred chapters. But the protagonist becomes fully an OP psychopath at a point and then there is no more tension. There is no consequence to any of his actions at a point. I'm kind of curious about his wife's existence but I don't have the time or patience to sit 10 hours reading brainrotting mtl. This was a good exploration of a lot of horror concepts though -also would not consider him a misogynist at all. I thought it was going that direction too but he... more>> has a disregard for men and women equally. He's simply a non feeling being who has no qualms about doing anything possible inflict pain on a specific group of beings.

The author should write shorter stories. A lot of the horror concepts could be cool as isolated stories but the CN webnovel insistence on shounen power scaling and OP protagonists just does not work here. Psychological genres and power creep just do not mix, really. <<less

it's pretty interesting, MC can go back in time to a certain important 'save point' which changes as the story progresses. The plot is pretty unique, it's not necessarily scary even though there are 'ghosts'. It's pretty fun too read and can be funny as well, I just dropped for a while because I realise that the MC is not that interesting, but i'll probably pick it up again.
i'd give it a 4.5/5.

First of all Noobao's non-spoiler review is fine but don't believe his nonsensical spoiler review as yugmondar has a point.

Spoiler

"Yug review is nonsensical. Shen Lingxue since beforehand has been recognized as a superior female character to the group during the village arc, she helped stall for time against the ghost, was useful against controlled enemies, followed the MC instructions and silently choose to let him take the leadership away from her in recognition of his greater capabilities, despite being arrogant and moody due to the way spiritual powers works in this series. But yeah sure, that's not a positive depiction dude, the author is such an incel amiright?

It's very, very funny. You'll see the MC literally torturing one of his enemies (who is a male character btw) teared to pieces and throw into a meat grinder to be feed to the dogs and no issue is raised with it. But when a female turns into the enemy and gets the same treatment he's now a incel? Stfu." - Noobao

This is what I want to clarify with this nonsense Noobao made

Spoiler

She was but that was a small part of the larger female cast where just about every psychic female is depicted more negatively than their male counterparts. What supports Yugmandor's review is chapter 94-95 where the author just started putting his power fantasy and changing the MC to torture Shen Lingxue.

The main problem is with Shen Lingxue as all the female enemies that the MC tortured or killed is fine. But this was not fine. He became more edgy and out of character cause Shen Lingxue started blaming him and being annoying. Before Blackwater and even during blackwater the MC would have just knocked her out before not giving a f*ck with what she did as she wasn't even being an enemy just annoying. But during this chapter he started torturing her treating her like a specter and even said that weird worship shit. It was obvious those chapters were the author's disguised venting chapters.

This quote from the MC supports my complaint "From today, you will worship me as a god!". No way he would say this sh*t even to his enemies, especially with what she did. The way the chapter happened was pure frustration from the author even the translator thought so.

[collapse]

Mazikennedy you never read the chapters they would be complaning about with chapter 58. Him being cold so Su Kexin is fine and fits with his character.
Spoiler

Him being mad at that silver haired enemy for reminding him of his wife and so torturing her and killing her fits with his character

[collapse]
but what he did in chapter 94-95 was out of character. I just hope this stuff doesn't reappear

All in all the MC isn't a misogynist but the author does have some questionable writting decisions especially chapter 94-95. <<less

Regarding RedPlays review. I'm not being nonsensical at all. Though I have to agree with you that the writing decision you're talking about is questionable.

Spoiler

Insofar there were 2 female psychics who were show as villains, first it was one who lacked retrospective and was lonely, and thus wanted a friend to stay with her forever and accidentally drove her to death, causing her to be possessed by an specter and causing a genocide to those who she believed to be responsible. The second one was literally mind-broken by abusers which justified her bad personality. All female villainous characters had a small and quick reason to be as bad as they were and imo they weren't even that bad, compare this to Lin ziyang who was a psychotic serial killer that tortures people and feeds them to dogs... Because? You didn't even provide examples of how bad they're depicted compared to the male villains of the franchise, heck, if we compare the good guys side. Shen is better depicted than the other male psychics, the fatass was a useless pe*vert whose only utility was letting blood flow to activate an item because he was useless, and the MC friend is an annoying pe*vert 99% of the time that can't stop being h**ny because that's his character.

Also you're very, very clearly having a fundamental misunderstanding of MC character, the novel didn't do a good work of showing who he truly is early on because his madness was limited to his enemies, which made his actions give the impression that he's rational, but no, he isn't; he is very much crazy, insane, petty and trigger happy (remember, he was willing to kill that young master before he did anything to him because he was talking mad sh*t and was implying MC doesn't know about specters or how frightening they are at all, he 100% meant it) this aspect of the MC will be very apparent and clear the more you read the novel. You're only saying his actions don't make sense for him because you've finished chapter 96 fresh, read more.

[collapse]

Now, regarding chapter 94-96 which will be controversial and will certainly make some people drop the novel.

Spoiler

People are unhappy because Shen Lingxue situation at chapter 94-96 kinda came out of nowhere due to the author poor planning, lack of foreshadowing and because she truly, didn't deserve anything that happened to her. She was made into a scapegoat to showcase the MC madness.

Can someone who just vented at a relative death deserve to be reminded of her hypothetical failures and lose them again, again, and again and be tortured with the guilt? They clearly don't.

The problem? She vented to the wrong person, yeah underachiever, go and say to the person that got tortured, maimed and disemboweled multiple times by specters that it's his fault innocent people died and that he should have tried better as if he's not putting any effort at all on his job even after he just had to die multiple times, just after he completed a major mission. Surely this very sane person with common sense won't retaliate right?

MC action was completely in-character, what is at fault is the author amateur writing, he lacked exposition for this part of MC's personality which made his actions during 94-96 seem like it came out of nowhere, it was a very poor way to do an exposition of this side of the MC's character..

That's all.

[collapse]

Now, about the novel itself.

The good; regarding the world itself, there's a pretty interesting foundation with it but what's truly interesting is the main-character, he's insane due to the loops and won't stop at anything to deal with his enemies, as well as being highly efficient about it.

It's like Subaru, if he was a bit more realistic after dying for the thousandth time and wasn't annoying or dumb, the MC's psychopathy allows for very interesting solutions for the troubles the scenario provides and I quite like it

The bad; if you want story where the MC bounds or develops a character with emotional bonds or blablabla, you won't get it, the MC's character has been formed from the start of the novel, you won't see development from him in this regard, I prefer the novel as it is actually is but I can understand if this is a deal breaker to some.

The worst thing about this work is how it handles powerscaling. It makes sense when the MC can loop between time and choose the optimal outcome to his troubles, but the main character does get strong too fast, which takes away from the thriller setting. It's why I've reduced one star as of now. <<less

It’s truly interesting. A story about a guy going through trauma without end, and not even having a choice of killing himself while the source of his despair dresses up as a something beautiful makes you feel sad for the MC. It puts into perspective how he doesn’t just go crazy and have a meltdown every second.

Spoiler

As for the comments about how the MC is edgy and misogynistic and whatnot, they truly lack empathy for the MC and only about their emotions being hurt. He was never attacked while in a room or chilling but only in his freakin bathroom with his pants down, and he ended up being torn from limb to limb therefore the last thing on his mind is caring about women and their feelings. Add to the that the fact that he has to avoid eye contact with these monstrosities every waking moment of his life, which gives him no time to heal and reflect. It’s almost like torture p*rn if you think about it.

[collapse]

It leaves you invested on how he’s going to treat his enemies and whether he’s “curable” in the future <<less
