A Campione—a Godslayer—is a supreme ruler.

Since he can kill a celestial being, he can therefore call on the sacrosanct, divine powers wielded by the gods.

A Campione—a Godslayer—is a lord.

Since the power to kill a deity is in his hands, he therefore looms over all mortals on Earth.

A Campione—a Godslayer—is a devil.

Since for all mortal who live in the world, none can assume a power to match his!

Kusanagi Godou is a 16 year old boy who played catcher and fourth hitter in senior league baseball until an injury put an end to it in junior high.

As the spring break of his third and last year of junior high came around, he got involved in an adventure and ended up slaying one of the Heretic Gods, Verethragna. Thus, he became the youngest—and seventh—Campione.

Now that he is a Campione, a godslayer, young Godou must defeat the troublemaking gods with the help of his followers!

Read all 18 volumes...... sigh. Had potential, but sadly spinning its wheels on the romance department. Erica is best female ever and at one point things got good between her and Godou, but them the author did a 180 on the romance and it faded away (on Godou's part).

I really enjoyed the story up to a degree, but the big turn off is Godou and not accepting the girls, tho they do get into some heavy kissing, even a 5-some heavy kissing, but that is it.

As for action and... more>> well thought out, themes no complaints there, fun and addictive. We can all conclude he ending tho, as typical of most novel endings in this case.....

Spoiler

pretty sure it will be a Harem ending with Godou marrying all 4 girls as they all want to marry him and have accepted one another

Story 4/5 -1 for MC taking too long to accept girls. <<less

The potential was excessive. The presentation is appalling.

MC is a no good idiot most of the times. An embarrassment for all men on this planet. Suspects his parents (both of them) having an illegitimate child when some girl calls him oniisama!!

The main heroine. The worst of the women in the harem. Annoying (the author writes it as playful. Yup. The author is indeed a terrible pe*vert. A masochist with no decency.)

Anyway this woman suddenly "falls in love with the MC after a hating him till that minute". This woman... more>> is the ultimate b*tch... She causes his reputation to fall steadily. If it were me I would've slapped her a million times...

The best female is probably the hime-Miko Yuri. Maybe preferential treatment for the Japanese heroine?

The most annoying thing? Probably the main heroine Erica. The next one? The mob character male classmates of the MC who get rnraged over another man's leftovers.... Serious lack of sekf respect. I think only Maria Yuri has that sekf respect among the whole bunch!!

So is there anything good in this? The mythological references are good. If you enjoy archaeology and mythology there's something to like. But It's really hard to enjoy because the author likes the bit*h Erica a bit too much,..... <<less

I must say although Godou took forever to finally accept what he is, and the feelings of the girls, all in all it was amazing to read. I must say though.. Godou is certainly bold in the last chapter. Lol. Ending is great what they did in the end..... fufufufu was certainly what the readers have been waiting for. I liked it. Loved it. However, I still can't choose between Erica and Liliana for favorite girl in the series after all this time. Don't get me wrong though, I like... more>> Yuri and Ena just... not to such an extent. Oh yeah...
Spoiler

The two threesome's at the end was like almost every man's dream. Especially the one with Liliana and Erica they are my two favorites.

There are 7 eccentric godslayers around the world, who are willing to do crazy actions for victory. The battles are epic and exhilarating. They always win, that's why they are also called Champions. Start from Vol 3 [vol 11 (part 2) [if you want to read according to novel timeline]

Each and everything related to champions is completely thought out. Their battle style, powers, factions, personality is complementary and unique.

The MC is Tsundere char who actually enjoys fighting and winning but always keep avoiding battles after an incident in where he... more>> got injured. He is also a tsundere for expressing and accepting girls's advances towards him. The MC grows and shows acceptance only after v14. But you will see glimpses of his true char during all battles. He deserves the title of campione.

But other godslayer/campione are not tsundere, they will show why everyone respects and fears them, thus always putting each and everyone of them on highest pedestal.

The Girls are good and distinguished persons with each having different skillset.

So, a Action-Romance story with explanation of different myths from around the world.

I will definitely recommend it. You shouldn't miss the amazing battles and the eccentric but OP campione from all around the world with their unique traits and powers.

Start from Vol 3 + vol 11 (part 2) [if you want to read according to novel timeline] <<less

Overall this novel is pretty average it does give you a dose excitement through its battles but in the end the plot keeps getting overused to the point it gets boring....

MC is a godslayer, his personality is contradictory, more so the fate the author decided to give MC makes it just worse... MC wants peace but ends up embroiled in mysterious events which ends up having his life put on the line. To be honest, he keeps avoiding war so far to the point I feel he is really pathetic... more>> MC. He wants to protect people but he won't fight unless you push him to a corner and author push him to corner in every volume..... It turns boring really fast.

Harem... Well to be honest all the girls have their own character and depth to them and are really likable but for god knows what reason they fall for an impotent MC. MC keeps avoiding the issue of loving them by putting them into category of friends. GIRLS USUALLY DONT GO AROUND HAVING DEEP KISSES WITH SOMEONE THEY DONT LOVE YOU F***. MC doesn't know how to stop advances of girls and end up creating trouble for himself making him look more pathetic, it started with a joke but author used it repeatedly with new girls it's boring.

Knowledge... Author have a lot of knowledge regarding history or mythologies and stuff and it is really fun to get to know different myths out there and what kind of god's there were in the past. This novel covers too wide range of god's and myths that it makes it all the worth to read.

overall - if only author had slowly made MC grow up and made him lose pathetic self I might have continued reading but till here it was still fun. For romance or a cool MC this novel might not be for you! But for action this is definitely the one. Action is definitely superb! <<less

The whole premise of the story's system of gods and myths is totally circular reasoning. Gods are supposedly created from myths and stories spread by people. The main "monsters" or "bad guys" in the novel are these gods that have rebelled and are called "Heretic Gods" because they have strayed from their known behaviour as dictated in their myths and stories. Basically, they have been birthed somehow and appear in the physical world to wreak havok or live out their desires.

And here is where everything makes no sense: if... more>> these gods have rebelled, why do they end up hating humans and end up wanting to destroy these very people that have formed them in the first place? If all humans stop existing these gods won't exist either, and neither will "Heretic Gods" ever have a chance of being formed. This contradiction never gets resolved in the entire story because the author can't think straight whether in logic or common sense or chronology. I find that the only sensible way around this is not for all "heretic gods" to have the same mindset of killing humanity but rather to simply as originally stated, rebel against their original myth, but that shouldn't have any bearing on destroying humans... but somehow almost every god we come across ends up being a villain who wants to kill humans or destroy them...

The author fails at thinking and presenting a chronological story... in fact much of his reasoning and logic is circular... even timelines are circular! Updated:
volume 3, 8, 11, 14, 16 (I'm up to vol. 16 now) all partly or start off with "that time in italy"... as if that story is a horse that has been beaten dead multiple times now, its honestly getting very repetitive. That part of the story when the MC became a Campione isn't finished being told even up to vol 16. This is a serious problem because the author hasn't decided to stop beating that dead horse yet and continues to add more events to that short period of time.

It's like reading

vol 1-2 in current time,
vol 3 flashback

vol 4 - 7 in current time,

vol 8 in flashback,

vol 9 -10 in current time,

vol 11 in flashback

vol 12-13 in current time,

vol 14 in flashback (first portion)

vol 14-15 in current time

As you can see any sane person would get confused because no one thinks in a circular time line and neither should stories be told this way. Flashback are a literary device that should be used sparingly and when used, should be effective and relevant to particular events at hand... but the author uses flashbacks as an attempt to continually add events to an untold story which are only slightly related to events in current time.

AVOID! NOT RECOMMENDED! <<less

Campione is a novel that gets better the further you read, the author did a good job at portraying the being that are Campiones and their fights both against Heretic Gods (as they're called in the novel) and each other with the lead up to the climax of each volume being well done, Godou having received an Authority that has multiple manifestations has restrictions on each of them and seeing him use each of the manifestations without wasting them and exploiting the current scenario that lets him use each of... more>> them in his fights against opponents that have their own sets of abilities that make them hard opponents is very entertaining regardless of the results of said fights.

Godou along the series has great development, slowly getting more comfortable with not having to abide by common sense, but this development is slow and really only starts getting on track from volume 7 onwards, but even so Godou is still entertaining most of the times with the exception of the moments he denies the girls while still being attracted to them. <<less
