DO NOT READ THIS NOVEL

This is a story about a guy whose cheat is being immortal and who can regenerate any injury so he learns strong self-harming skills. Every chapter is short, about 1/4 of a regular webnovel ch.

While he's learning martial arts he's cautious and although not exciting the story is not bad. Once he starts cultivating everything goes out the window. The MC becomes arrogant and reckless, finds opportunities that are prefaced with chapters long info dumps at every step, every fight there's a slap fest with the... more>> enemy saying "you are tr*sh, don't you know who I am?" and the peanut gallery saying how the MC is going to die.

At ch380 the MC has powered up so hard he doesn't even use forbidden skills. The current "opportunity" is coveted by a bunch of geniuses and for the last 30+ chapters the geniuses have been throwing themselves at the MC calling him tr*sh and how he needs to die and the MC kills them in a couple hits yet they still keep coming one after the other.

Even the worst face slapping webnovels have one or two paragraphs worth reading every chapter. This novel doesn't even have that. <<less

REVIEW #1:

All around pretty good and interesting story, although the plot setup is admittedly slightly lower class. Still, for a cultivation novel these days this is already top tier. Honestly there shouldn't be much to complain about for anyone about this book.

A thing in this book that most stood out for me was how the advancement of the plot was not done with usual cheap methods of CN novels, and was instead done according the much more old school style of actually realistic writing. What I mean by this is... more>> that in this book there are not that many cases of things like forced relationships that seem unnatural, such as finding a pretty girl and instantly bonding with her within hours and then risking your life to save her- that kind of usual garbage. Instead the methods to advance the plot here were realistic like the use of global settings in the book world, passage of time in the book world, some realistic coincidences etc. Just things where you could feel that the author actually spent some real brainpower coming up with.

It's not a perfect book by any means of course, the usual shortcomings of this style of writing are still present such as slightly shallow characters (development and thoughts) and not overly descriptive world building (both on larger and smaller scale). Still, for what it is, it has already reached the apex. At least for me it was very entertaining.

No issues so far with translation either. So if you're into these type of novels definitely give this a try. It might take few tens of chapters to see if you like this one though.

REVIEW #2:

New review as of chapter 400+. Unfortunately, something happened. Best I can describe it, is that the original author died and someone else picked this up. Suddenly main character turns completely opposite of himself: Now instead of cool low key character with tons of aliases like "anonymous", we have this incredibly reckless and childish MC who deliberately puts himself on situations he wouldn't be able to escape from. It's not even at the level of "plot armor" where the plot would protect MC, it's beyond that: MC must always, for some godforsaken reason, make the worst choice to get into a unbeatable situation. Same with his values, now he saves girls and little girls and values promises to random throw-away characters like some kind of righteous Mary Sue. It's complete bullshit.

And believe it or not, that's not even the worst of it. The worst is the writing style, which is just.. I don't even know how to begin explaining it. I guess we could call it author completely winging it and EMBRACING deus ex. There are CONSTANT throw-aways like suddenly MC realising he can use his blood to make immortality pills, or maybe he needs to get past a realm of pillmaking so he will spent half a paragraph "practicing pills in seclusion" in middle of escaping from someone. It's just completely ret*rded ass pulls that would be incredibly big and meaningful things, but are made into miniscule throw-away things by the author. And holy f*ck does this hurt the value of the story. It's like nothing means anything anymore. The whole story world is broken. For all you know next sentence in the story might be MC realising he can do kamehameha and blow up whole cultivation world and become Thanos then make gods and buddhas suck his dick. Quite honestly I haven't seen another novel drop this badly in quite some while. I really couldn't tell you what happened. If anyone out there has any information, like did the author get into a car accident or have a stroke which ruined his brain, or something like that, feel free to hit me up. Because I'm genuinely curious. <<less

It's an interesting story and I am enjoying in quite greatly, but I had to stop reading.

Not because of the writing though, but because the translator was removing about 20% of every chapter.

They are removing descriptions of fights, important explanations of techniques and shortening paragraphs while splitting the chapters into parts to increase their release rate.

How am I meant to enjoy a story if I cannot trust that I am receiving what the author intended?

3.5/5, I long for the future of perfect machine translation.

The growth of the protagonist is very slow. Eventhough he has a cheat (he is immortal), he doesn't use it well to advance rapidly or improve his combat potential. All the forbidden skills he finds are also all elementary level ones that anyone can find.

Spoiler

200 chapters in and he is about 200 years old and yet he is still in the Qi refinement realm because of his extremely poor aptitude in cultivation, alchemy and other areas. Timeskips of 10 to 20 years passes by without the protagonist not even levelling up once. Even a beggar who MC took in as a servant has better talent than him and have progressed far better than the MC, being in a better sect and having a higher cultivation realm. His forbidden techniques doesn't even allow him to fight a realm higher than him and he is always running away from someone or something to hide and cultivate time and time again.

[collapse]

Progress is really slow because the protagonist thinks he has all the time in the world but readers will get bored after a while. Eventhough he is immortal, he is scared of stepping into a single danger zone to try his luck (although being cautious is good). And eventhough he has half a dozen forbidden techniques to speed up his cultivation, he is not able to surpass ordinary talents who are given an equal amount of resources as him. His immortality doesn't seems to be that big of a deal when it comes to helping him cultivate. As a result, scenes of actual fights are very rare and most of the novel is about his daily habits and travelling lifestyle.

The writing style and the cautious nature of the MC is pretty good. Not too arrogant and constantly disguises himself so not to attract unwanted attention. He is also pretty decisive when it comes to fighting others.

That's all good. However the slow progress of MC kills the story.

Spoiler

The best part of the story starts from chapter 260 after he starts to step into the Foundation Establishment realm. The fights are getting better and the growth doesn't seem to be constricted as before. A solid 3/5.

First, the title is very missleading. The title almost made me not want to read it.
But the novel is actually decent. (Atleast the start)
The starting was good and I liked the way MC behaved, low key and hiding in the shadows.
But from around chapter 350 it started going downhill, becoming like all the other generic low class cultivation novel with arrogant reta*ded characters who scream 'die', 'kill', 'kneel down', etc.

Scratch everything I said. This is utter garbage.

Spoiler

I legit don't know what is wrong with these chinese authors.

A girl was r*ped and violated so she went crazy and started attacking everyone, MC went 'how dare you attack me' and killed her. MC f*cking killed her. I am dissapointed so freaking disapponted.

Author did this to show that MC was 'ruthless'.

earlier MC was like " I must hide my immortality other wise I will be captured and experimented on. Later it's like he is screaming for others to know that he is immortal.

later on everything becomes garbage. At one point he can fight someone at level 3 when he is at level 2.9 then when he breaks-through to level 3, he can't kill a level 3. MC becomes arrogant and most importantly, A FREAKING hypocrite. Facts are not straight they keep on changing within few chapters.

[collapse]

To be honest I actually loved the starting part. I love it when an MC remains low key and hides in the shadows. Sadly, it changed.

I actually feel that two different authors wrote this novel. The starting was written by someone else and after around 300 someone else started writing.

Dammit it was going great for 200 chapters with the MC being cautious and low-key, using the advantages of his immortality.

Then out of nowhere he completely changed personality and became bold and it didn't matter if his enemies have the strength of several levels higher than him. ???? He didn't even use the forbidden techniques anymore and he should've been able to fight a nascent soul when at the golden core level, but he just gets beaten up.

So s*upid. Completely wasted a great setting, AAAAA whyyyyy, when I finally found a good novel after so long
