On a rainy day, Chi You got a message that her lover would be late. Looking outside, she thought for a bit and then called to check if she should pick him up.

But no one answered the phone for a while.

She bit her lip, took an umbrella, and went out.

The rain and wind messed up Chi You’s hair. At the company, they said her partner was at a banquet.

Stuck in a tough spot, Chi You met her partner’s friend.

The friend took her to the banquet.

There, she saw her partner looking at another woman.

Her partner was focused on a lady in a white dress, graceful and smiling like an untouchable swan. Meanwhile, Chi You’s hair was wet, and she felt like a drenched ugly duckling.

With a pale face, she left without saying anything.

——

Chi You woke up in a novel. The main character had a hard life, used as a replacement for the guy’s unrequited love. When the crush came back and the guy easily left her, Chi You realized she was just a substitute.

Yawning, she complained about the overly dramatic story. Packing up, she planned to go back to her usual life and unexpectedly met the guy from the story.

He was well-dressed and had a serious face. He glanced at her through the glass door, but she didn’t mind. Following the story, she pushed the door open.

For the first time in over twenty years, the guy did something unusual by keeping the girl he’d seen once at the company.

The little substitute was attractive, and every smile stole his attention.

But as he realized he might be spoiling her too much, she started frowning at him, saying he dirtied her expensive dress that needed hand-washing.

Gu Jingxu returned home, not even getting a kiss, and crouched in the bathroom to wash the substitute’s dress. As he looked at his somewhat disheveled reflection in the mirror, before he could formulate any thoughts, the girl in the bedroom called out for juice.

He immediately wiped his foam-covered hands on his five-figure suit and went out to pour juice for her.

At the banquet, when he saw the person from his childhood memories, Gu Jingxu was cold and distant, politely rejecting the person’s business proposal. Unable to wait until the end of the banquet, he hurried home to embrace the little substitute.

But the phone number he remembered didn’t work.

I'm not really a fan of the writing in this novel. It's very bland and doesn't pull the readers in. I struggled through the story because I like the summary and typically like a bit of wife-chasing crematorium story but this one isn't it.

FL is very apathetic to the ML imo. She seems to take it very easy and as the title and summary mentions, is like a little ancestor that the ML has to coax. ML is very doting though by the end and super into FL. I just... more>> don't feel the same emotions from FL.

As for the contract part, it was because the assistant from ML's side gave him the idea. ML seems to be a clueless guy who has super low EQ tbh. He doesn't know how to court the FL. And thinks the contract will solve it. What a fool.

Oh well, HE obviously.

Its a super simple and quick read with readable MTL. Translation is not bad too. Just the novel is kinda boring for my tastes. <<less
