Status: Completed
If you’re looking for a generic apocalypse novel. This is it. It’s got all the elements: poor life decisions in the past life, getting reborn prior to the end of the world with a magical space (so that they’re able to hoard a bunch of supplies), villains from the past life getting their comeuppance, etc. There are 474 main chapters (I don’t know if there are extras) but the chapters are pretty short so it goes by relatively quickly. The only reason I completed it is because when I realized... more>> the story wasn’t going to really develop, I was too far in and had to see it to the end.

I wouldn’t have rated it so low if the characters weren’t so annoying. I’m not against tropes necessarily; I could read Chinese apocalypse novels all day, every day. The issue for me was that the majority of the characters felt really childish. There are so many interactions I don’t believe should have happened between grown adults. It felt like everyone was in high school.

The MC didn’t feel like she had grown at all since she was reborn, she just seemed less dumb. In fact, the majority of the female characters seemed a little dumb. The men are also a little dumb but since there were at least a few more main male characters that were a bit smarter so it felt more noticeable with the women.
Spoiler

The only female character I thought was smart was Jiang Cao. There’s also a random misunderstanding from Niu Tianzheng that the brother was into beastiality that stemmed from absolutely nothing but sheer s*upidity and lasted way longer than it should.

It seemed like MC was coddled by everyone around her. I didn’t see a reason why she was so spoiled by her brothers except for the fact that she was blood-related to them. They were kind of annoying in how much they spoiled her. They gave her the credit for the good decisions they made / the work they did. The reason everyone else liked her was because of her space/what the brothers tricked them into believing. Yes, she makes some decisions that benefit people but they just seemed like common sense decisions vs smart, decisive decisions I would have expected from someone in her role.

Don’t read this for the romance. I really don’t know why the ML even fell in love with her. She’s not interesting and she didn’t particularly sacrifice anything or do any hard work in saving the ML. The ML also doesn’t really have to do anything to be in a relationship with MC. It just happens. The emotions I feel from them at the beginning is essentially what it is at the end. They start clingy, they end clingy. No build-up, no development.

And the villains didn’t seem very villainous either. The author just wrote down the bad things they did but the actual personalities just seemed like toddlers throwing tantrums. There are absolutely no setbacks because the MC or the ML are too OP.

Don’t get me started with Tuan Tuan, the guardian spirit. I know he’s not technically a villain but I believe he was annoying enough to be one. He’s constantly lying, stealing, and being selfish. They know this and yet they do nothing about it. At the end, the MC cries a little because something might happen to him but WHY? Every interaction they’ve had is either him ruining something, acting like a baby, or them realizing he’s lied yet again. He even lets a major villain escape for extremely selfish reasons and MC is just like “well that’s how he is, I guess I’ll punish him later 🤷🏻‍♀️ so that he never does it again” HE ALWAYS DOES IT AGAIN. That villain then goes to basically ruin the entire world. No one showed the appropriate response to what he did.

AND THEN THE ENDING. The entire story just coasts along for like 460 chapters and then all the action happens in the last part. The ending doesn’t even make sense.
Spoiler

People die but they’re not actually dead. The main characters get reborn into the immortal world to be with their mom and dad. It honestly felt like the whole story I read was a waste of time because it gave “it was all a dream” vibes.

I’ve never written such a long review but this novel really left me with a bitter taste. <<less
