So, I just want to start out by saying: This is NOT your typical regressed urban cultivator novel. At all.

So far, the fact that the MC is a cultivator has barely even been relevant to the story.

This is basically, at least so far, a slice of life highschool life novel. And the cast and events are absolutely amazing.

So, because of the MC's personality and circumstances, I honestly can't say whether or not there's going to be actual romance here - There's definitely hints, but the MC is like... very unique... more>> and different even from other regressed urban cultivators, because before regression he was... refined into an emotionless s*ave. (literally) - So he has like a thousand years of life experience without emotions, and now has finally regained emotions, and is thus very, very unique. So I genuinely don't know how his personal story is going to develop.

But none of that matters.

Because the writing here and the cast are AMAZING.

This is a comedic slice of life school story where the MC just so happens to be a cultivator, and so far at least, potentially the only one in the world. The vast majority of the story so far has simply been about funny and interesting events that have happened at the school and with the MC's classmates. Who are all absolutely great characters that are written surprisingly well and "human" - Like people will just occasionally forget really basic things, or say the wrong thing, or send messages to the wrong person, etc. etc. - The sorts of minor life details that are often missing from many similar novels. someone missing the bus because he forgot he could just watch the drama on his own phone instead of someone else's with the group. Or someone trying to do an ambush proposal to his girlfriend and accidentally proposing to a stranger with the same build because it was nighttime.

Like I said: This series is great.

Honestly because the setup was so similar to so many other novels in the same sort of genre, I really didn't have much hope for this one when I started it, and was totally just expecting to drop it after a few chapters of the typical face slapping nonsense, but then it turned out to be like, genuinely good and not at all what I was expecting from this "genre".

It's very humorous, with a very non-serious tone. Comedy and character interactions take the forefront, while the MC's whole regressed cultivator identity has only come into play in fairly minor ways so far. I'm sure this'll change later on, but overall it feels very, very character and slice of life focused, rather than your typical power fantasy that's generally associated with the genre/concept. And the MC honestly doesn't feel all that out of place at all, probably because he's "recovering his emotions" and "truly experiencing the fun of life" for the first time in a thousand years. He's very, VERY childish at times, and very fun and mischievous, but also very caring and surprisingly normal. He's very... human. Like, he has all of this power, yet so far basically just uses it pretty much to make his life more relaxing, rather than having any specific goal.

Honestly, literally the only negative point I really have to say about this so far is that the MC is a bit too much of an "everything is fun and amusing" type of guy, and thus it's hard to say how he actually genuinely views people. Like, he feels like the embodiment of "fun and aloof", and while he has all sorts of people that he has "friendships" with, it's hard to tell if he actually genuinely cares about these people, or is just enjoying the moment.

Overall, this is an absolutely GREAT light-hearted slice of life series. Which, gotta say, is not at all what I was expecting from it, but, well, it's way better than what I was expecting, so... give it a shot. This is way better written than I was expecting. <<less
