After discovering that his boyfriend had cheated on him with his green tea roommate, Song Linchu decisively chose to break up. However, the roommate was not content to let things be and would show off expensive gifts that his ex-boyfriend had given him every day, with an air of superiority as if he were going to marry into a wealthy family.

But Song Linchu knew that his ex-boyfriend was not from a wealthy family. Rather, his wealthy uncle had chosen him as an heir by because he had a terminal illness and no offspring due to a physical defect.

When the green tea roommate showed off his gifts for the nth time, Song Linchu became enraged and got the contact information for his ex-boyfriend’s uncle. “You think you’re inheriting a fortune, huh? Well, just wait until I get myself added to the household registry and become the true inheritor!”

*

Song Linchu used his skills and managed to marry his ex-boyfriend’s influential uncle, Tan Yue. Not only did he eliminate his ex-boyfriend’s inheritance rights but also restricted his spending using some pillow talk.

The ex boyfriend could no longer give his green tea roommate extravagant gifts and Song Linchu felt quite pleased with himself.

However, just as he was counting down the days until he became a widow, he discovered that Tan Yue, who was expected to pass away soon, was becoming increasingly lively and energetic. Despite the rumored physical defect, he could actually….

Just as Song Linchu was scolding his ex-boyfriend as a liar and suffering from back pain and body aches, the ex-boyfriend came to him in tears, begging him not to let Tan Yue make his uncle go bankrupt.

Song Linchu: “…”

It was then that he realized he had misunderstood the situation: the wealth his ex-boyfriend got was actually owned by the uncle, while the man he had married, Tan Yue, was the patriarch to the whole Tan family.

It was a slightly amusing, very cliche story until a certain point, when a four year old side-character was introduced.

Maybe it's a special kind of humour I just don't get, but a toddler making s*xual advances towards the MC, a grown man, killed whatever little enjoyment had been there.
It's not once or twice, it's every time the kid shows up.

The writer seems to have never met a child, and that everyone in the story thinks this is okay is bewildering.
Even ML is jealous. Jealous of a toddler making explicit advances, like he's an adult.

It's not handled like a kid imitating the adults around him, or innocently playing "in love", it's straight up s*xual flirting like saying he could be MC's mistress/affair and trying to bribe MC into kissing him. A real kiss, not a peck or anything. That he would be a better lover than his uncle and wouldn't even mind sharing MC with others.
This is nothing but disturbing, if it was meant to be funny, then the writer has yet to learn where to draw the line.

The story was below-average to begin with, slightly elevated by the occasional joke, after more than enough instances with this downright creepy reverse pedo-stuff, I'm done with it.

Comedy can get away with a lot, sexualised children isn't one of them.

It is a little sad when you can tell instantly that a book was written by a man or woman based on their bad characterisation choices.

I've found the winning formula for the ideal Chinese shou and here he is again with his

    • peerless looks, complete with ignorance about how attractive he is
    • sob story and/or debt with parents missing/dead/abusive
    • marketable skills that make him desirable but not too wealthy,
    • invincible naivety (no consequences or growth ever)
    • *~adorably~* childish habits
    • Entitlement issues towards the ML, long before they even date, and
    • Spoiler

Of course, the cannon fodder behaves in equally female-coded ways. I know girl-shaped Chinese nationals are encouraged to be wheedling jerks to their boyfriends, but never seen an actual gay man whine like this in my entire life. The author of this one goes above and beyond to even give the MC yin (female) physiological issues to emphasise the heinousness of the cannon fodder's petty actions to the female majority readership. It's so s*upid. So s*upid, y'all.

All this to make MC, you know, look hyperfeminine but still desirable, weak but not useless? So that we are served a declawed boy who can be repeatedly saved by ML but not despised by the readership, instead attracting countless mama fans. Even so, I don't know what's to like when the thought patterns of all of the gay men in this story under the age of 21, ALL, mirror the brain waves of any thigh-hugging gold-digger from the 1980s.

The ingratitude of the MC is especially mind-blowing. ML literally

saves him from being r*ped based on very little information, goes out his way to help him get even. After that, clears his name when he's suspected of theft by a crazy passerby, clears his way after he is suppressed by an institution, provides him with safe accomodation, protects him from his bloodsucker relatives (from whom he is not actually so different), gives him money so he can move his parents' graves...

[collapse]

and ALL he can do is flounce about not being satisfied with his sweet-talking skills?

And constantly make pissy internal remarks about waiting for ML to die so he can get the guy's money??

And when there is finally a confession, he feels nothing more than the euphoria of

Spoiler

WINNING AT VIDEO GAMES?!

[collapse]

And this is the point where I stopped even bothering to read, because --- How is this meant to be cute and romantic?????

It matters that I was already bored to tears by then. Every chapter was all about MC being coquettish, temperamental, and randomly bullied, like a pear flower dripping in the rain or something. Alas, it doesn't take long for our emotionally ill CEO to fall for this useless rotter. At some point the ML remarks that his pouting looked so much like his 4yo nephew that he felt that he was raising two sons (chapter 32). I don't know how that's supposed to be cute or romantic either, but I suppose there's an audience for this.

Speaking of the 4yo. He was mentioned by other reviewers and I understand their discomfort. To me, the 4yo is a standard tasteless addition -- nothing overboard for a well-hardened Chinese audience, but of no value whatsoever. It would have been interesting if the boy's behaviour has been a Chekhov's gun for his parents' cheating as a plot point later, or SOMETHING (kids don't go this far unless someone VERY close by is modelling it), but there's nothing. Just the author struggling to squeeze out a few cheap laughs and fill up the word count for the day. But, thanks to her, all I can feel is disgust.

The language and translation quality is ok on this mediocre little crowd pleaser.

2 stars.

This novel served its purpose as a filler. It was good enough to pass the time and the twist and turns were minimal if at all, since for the most part it was fairly straightforward and easy to guess.

The relationship was fine, nothing to write home about and not toxic or unsavory enough to be upset. The age difference wasn't terrible and the way they treated one another was decent enough. Honestly, you can pretty much predict how this story goes. I ended up getting pretty bored once I hit... more>> chapter 50, and I think the author probably did as well.

I remember getting somewhere around 56 and actually being pleasantly surprised there was no kidnapping scene only to eat my words the very next paragraph lmao.

So yes, very predictable.

I also didn't bother to read the extras. Like I said, but chapter 50 I was pretty much over it and only pushed through because it was pretty much over. But I refused to read 19 more chapters of their boring sol.

All in all, my score is mainly for the translation. I appreciated the translators efforts in doing this.

Super cute with very smooth pacing! A well written, simple revenge plot with loveable and love-to-hate characters!

The face-slapping is fantastic and every single character is chock-full of personality! Incredibly binge-worthy.

It was a good read. Pretty cliche, but the writing style was humorous and interesting. There were a few errors in the translation, but they were all ignorable.

The plot was exactly what it says on the tin. It was light-hearted and didn't require a lot of brains to understand. This story is not to be taken seriously. The romance is pretty fluffy, except ofc, the whole ... more>>

ML not letting MC sleep the entire night, MC not being able to get out of the bed the day after (this happens twice, and then the MC decides to move away from the ML to make him understand that he doesn't appreciate the backpain). It seems like they come to a compromise eventually, but it still reads a lot like cnc. I'm trying not to hold this against the story cuz almost all bl (and even bg) have this kind of physical relationship dynamic

[collapse]

If you're somebody who's put off by misunderstandings and the eventual angst they end up invoking, then you'll be happy to know that yes, they do end up communicating properly. The misunderstandings don't create big problems (or any problem at all). Anything that happens is to further help progress the relationship of MC and ml. It is also not love at first sight. Both of them take a long time to warm up to each other.

One thing I love about this story is how children are portrayed here. There are not many children, but all of them are very.... Different. There's tuantuan who takes MC as his 'wife' at first sight. He also tries to give him a 'diamond ring'. It's hilarious. I don't feel anything wrong with the child saying something like that. Children sometimes get crushes, and sometimes they say they will marry somebody because they don't know the proper meaning of marrying somebody. They are pure and they emulate what they see around them. Tuantuan saying he wanted to marry the handsome brother was something similar to how small girls say they will marry their father when they grow up. There's nothing dark or s*xual about it because they don't know what "marrying" entails.

The second child, yuan yuan is also very adorable. She's silent and smart but fears sleeping alone in a new place, forgets about homework to go play with blocks, doesn't tell she has to pee before going out because she's accustomed to her parents asking about it by themselves etc. She's somewhat mature for her age, maybe, but she's still how a 4-5yr old child ought to be.

The best part here is that the MC and ML consider adopting children but decide to not do it because they are not ready. You know, the number of stories where the couple either adopts a child or where the ML is so possessive that adoption is not even an option, is infinite. This is the first story I read where both the ML and MC genuinely consider adoption, then babysit a child for a few days as a trial (even though it was not entirely their choice) and then decide that they are neither mature enough not free enough to raise a child properly. It was so freaking satisfying.

Spoiler

As somebody who genuinely fears interaction with children and doesn't want the presence of a child in her life, I am so appreciative of the fact that family for them wasn't a "2 parents and at least one child" deal. Not enough people understand that taking care of a child and raising them properly is kinda a big deal. No matter how much money you may have, parenting is a hard job with no respite. You shouldn't have children just because you want to be seen as somebody who "has it all" by the society. You are not incomplete without children. I'm so glad at the mature decision they made that I amped up the rating of this novel from 4 to 5.

[collapse]

Ahem, pardon my rambling, tldr this is a very brainless story with a cliche plot and some melodrama but it scratches the itch. It's satisfactory. Some parts are also new. The writing and translation style makes it humorous and worth reading. <<less

The story actually cliche, buts it's a feel good cliche. It's quite enjoyable.

Until the 4yo kid appears (an unnecessary character imo) and make an advances to MC. It seems the kid is only written to arouse ML's jealousy. But the kid is not cute at all, he's creepy and simply rude, what a turn off, a major drown back.

Somehow, I couldn't bring myself to like MC.

At first, it's like the author trying to give him a cool, mature, aloof yet gentle persona. But then, he slowly developed to be like a scheming fox, and trick ML without an ounce of guilt (though ML knows from early on of his intention). His persona becomes coquettish and childish with fluctuating temper, and constantly have to rely on ML many times in facing crisis that come. I don't mind him being scheming and tricking ML (it's the plot anyway), but at... more>> least he should show a bit guilty. But NO, until the end of the story, he does not feel guilty at all for tricking and using ML.

I can't stand it when ML constantly being the one to dote on him and compromising. It's like I can't feel MC's sincere love towards ML, other than because MC want to get revenge on his ex-boyfriend, and because ML is handsome and fulfill his wishes/showing care by giving gifts. Though he is really proactive, and his coquettish action with ML shows the love and supposed fluffiness, but the love shows in his inner feeling and monologue is lacking. I don't even know when he starts liking ML.

He said that his ex-boyfriend and his relationship is in the past, but MC constantly preoccupied feeling bitter thinking the ex will get ML's inheritance, and often focus his attention on his revenge to his ex after marrying ML. And it's like he doesn't care of the matter of ML's terminal illness and never bother to ask because he thinks ML might not want to reveal about it, thus, keeping the misunderstanding going on and on. But hey, you're his partner, you have the right to ask and know about it! Not asking only shows that he does not really care much about it!

And I think ML really shows that he dotes and care MC a lot, but why does MC keeps complaining him as straight steel man, just because ML lack words??

And the author portrayed him as a clever person, but the way his misunderstanding keeps going on (that he targeted the wrong person) until near the end of the chapters because he believes his ex's words about his uncle too much without even noticing the suspiciousness that happens many times over, can only shows that he is not that intelligent.

I think the only 5 stars in this story is ML. Though he is cold, lack words, but his action shows he really care about MC. (But minus point due to his typical posessive jealousy CEO setting) <<less

Like 2.5 ish.

It's not too bad as a book. Good for a leisure read.

It's about an MC who courts the ML for revenge on his ex and his ex's new bf.

Filled to the top with cliches though. You can't expect too much while reading this, really.

But yeah, it's alright I guess.

I have read the main story but not the extras.

The first thing I would say for anyone interested in this novel is, do not start reading this expecting it to be serious.

... more>> It's a readable novel if you don't mind reading something that is somewhat farfetched. I'm going to list a few things that influenced my rating.

Mc: the MC is okay. His personality is fine, but I find a problem with the fundamental plot of this whole novel (I know you're asking why I read it then, but sometimes these plots can make sense based on characterisations and personalities, so I decided to give it a go). The MC decides to get revenge on his ex-boyfriend and the third person that the boyfriend cheated with. Okay. That's fine. But he chooses to do this by seducing the ex-boyfriends uncle who is a terminally ill patient. His intention is to marry the guy and, admittedly he isn't after money which is commendable, but he is still targeting a terminally ill person because they will die, and they can't get it up so there is no risk of a s*xual relationship. The author even admits that this is ooc for the MC, hence why I say to not take this novel too seriously.

Romance: the interactions between the ML and MC are actually quite cute and funny. I enjoy the dynamic. I will admit that it was difficult to see the chemistry between them for possibly the first 20 chapters? It's hard to understand where the mls initial attraction for the MC came from. But when the MCs personality is shown more, there is a lot more chemistry there. I would also count this as a slow romance as the MC also doesn't "fall in love" until later in the story

s*xual intimacy: I'm keeping this separate to the romance because it's basically dubcon, and that is putting it nicely. It leans more towards the realms of non-con, so please be warned. This comes down to the MCs slow development of feelings. This content isn't explicitly detailed so it's not too bad, and it's the ML taking advantage of the MC, which is why I would say it settles in dubcon territory. Still, it doesn't really make you feel great about their relationship.

The little kid: okay. This little four year old is great. He's a child and in love with the MCs face. He's like a tiny adult, always flirting with the MC. It's one of the best interactive pairs of the novel. I've seen reviews saying the use of the child is creepy and unnecessary but I disagree. If you think a child's puppy love is creepy, then do you not think a young adult taking advantage of a terminally ill person is not? Anyway, the kid is great and it's amusing to see the ML target the little kid because of jealousy. As I've said, don't take the novel seriously.

I think these are my main points. Not a bad story if you like the domineering boss gong and poor student shou, but best to read without expecting much. <<less

I meant to give 4 ⭐️ but my finger slipped... QAQ

this story was undeniably cute. The ML, Tan Yue and the MC, Song Linchu, we're very likeable characters. I particularly enjoyed Song Linchu's inner monologues whenever he was with the ML, and how he would call Tan Yue a "dog steel man" ahahaa.

I also loved the way the author ended the book, where they said "having you in the future is truly wonderful".

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but having someone you love and can imagine a future with, how... more>> lucky they are to be able to do so.

It's not a groundbreaking novel, but it's entertaining and there's not many points of conflict or angst. This was a very comfortable read, the extras were nice too (though I skipped some parts because it was just a tad bit long lol). I also appreciated how the author didnt end the extras by saying the ML and MC had 10 kids lol some couples just want to enjoy their love for each other in peace for a few years without kids, which is totally fine.

anyways, I def recommend you read this novel and cheers to you finding someone to be by your side in the future 🥂 <<less

Between pros and cons, little cons are negligible.

Someone here objected over how a four year old was making 'sexual' approaches towards MC, and accused author of never having experiences with 4-yo. I'm sorry to say, I disagree. I have seen my 4 yo relative calling someone 'wife' because they were beautiful in their wedding dress and he wanted a doll-like human. Took his parents months to correct him. Also, his behavior of trying to order stuffs online is a typical example to children of today's generation. Have you seen that... more>> 7 yo influencer from Middle east with rich parent making tiktok videos about their wealth and recording casual trips around the world? Well, now you know.

Aside from this point, I found the whole story adorable. It wasn't love at first sight or anything. Double misunderstanding blooming to affection. Best part is, Song Linchu taking time to deal with his emotions after first sleeping with Tan Yue, and later coming clean to him about his misunderstanding. Of course, it irks me that Tan Yue doesn't do the same about his misunderstanding.

There were melodramas in some places, like the cheating roommate getting thrown out of a party, kidnapping etc, however, these can be easily accepted.

The extras were funny and the last part about their moments of reconsidering the decision of adopting a child makes it more realistic.

All in all, it's a good read. <<less

Spoiler And NSFW? Vague nsfw? Idk.

Spoiler

I think the ML and the MC have a different type of love language, and that's why MC keeps thinking that ML doesn't know how to coax someone or make them feel better.

MC wants his efforts to be acknowledged with sweet words, and be coaxed when he's having a tantrum.

ML likes teasing the MC while also being contrary. He says go live in the slum, but then he's picking you up personally from the road. The MC being confused about this is normal.

ML has only met MC, but MC has heard stories about ""ML"" liking forward people. MC thinks he knows ML from the exboyfriend.

(I think MC is trying to learn how to flirt, so he also is confused when he gets a different reply than what is normal for people who flirt.)

MC is grateful for everything, but the love points the ML needs to hit are not him providing money for the MC (MC can work hard for that himself), but him being sweet and loving to the MC.

When ML confesses to maybe allowing himself to love MC, they are not yet together. They are basically dating, with intent to stay married. But after this, they learn to rely on each other and trust each other.

The only one thing I don't like: how the author tried to write the s*x scene... or that ML lacks practice and didn't seem to understand that you need to stretch your partner for a more comfortable play.

Gongs of authors have the unfortunate scenes of them being forceful, or full of stamina and lacking refractory periods. It's like they can go on and on forever. The fact that there is no lube makes your bu*t clench in pain, so imagine how they feel if they actually tried to have s*x without lube. You'd probably have torn skin for both parties. Bad s*x practice writing, not good for gay readers.

God I want my own Tan Yue. They bicker and tease each other and ML makes dry comments with a seriousness that makes MC wanna beat him up, but he shows his affection and care to the utmost with his actions. 4 stars though because there were some parts that made me think that a different POV would've showcased the couple in a different light, idk it's hard to explain. Love the story, but the extras were an awful end. I usually love extras, but these just presented a weird reality that I wasn't interested in. Just adding am epilogue to the main story would have been more interesting. Delving into the love of a side character (yuan yuan maybe?) would have been fun. The point of view from the ML during the main story would have even been better.

Oh well.

The author thinks it's necessary to make the MC a perfect innocent, even though the premise of the story is... more>> that he's a bit extreme in his revenge. It works well in the story, but then don't color him as his dedicated, laser focused workaholic. That just doesn't mesh with the interesting character that had developed in the main story.

Despite the revenge-y premise, I really liked this. Translation is really good.

I really enjoyed reading this novel! It was really cute.

I love seeing MC the one pursuing the ML

Regarding another review mentioning a toddler making s*xual advances on MC. I thought it wasn’t but unfortunately it is true. While it isn’t exactly “s*xual advances” it did make me uncomfortable reading about a 4 year old child instigating the MC to make him MC’s secret lover etc.

While the story might have intended it to be a cute scene, it bothered me because that’s just a 4 yrs old child and he already... more>> knows about such thing! Imagine if he grows up with the same mindset, he might become a scumbag
