Waking up one morning, Xiao Wange found herself in a different time and place, she unexpectedly crossed over! Transported to the backward 1980s, she became a malnourished, emaciated village girl!

What’s terrifying is that this village girl was sold by her parents as if she were an object. She was sold to an elderly man who had lost his wife to be his bride. Even more frightening, this elderly man had a 3-year-old son, and she was supposed to be his stepmother!

Xiao Wange: “…”

Others who have crossed over usually become princesses or noble ladies, enjoying luxurious lives. Why did she, upon crossing over, end up becoming a bride to an old man? And she has to be a stepmother too? It must be because her posture when crossing-over was wrong!

But later…

When that tall, handsome “old man” stood before her, her eyes brightened, and she immediately rushed over to hug his arm: “Husband~”

Hearing her sweet call of “husband,” the “elderly man” couldn’t help but be speechless: “…”

***

Zhan Zeyan received an urgent call from his neighbor Bai Caixuan, saying that his new wife was abusing his child at home, making the child so ill he needed to come back immediately.

He asked for leave from the army and hurried home.

But as soon as he entered the house, his new bride was frying eggs for his son, who was happily calling her “sister.”

Zhan Zeyan: “…” What about mistreating his son?

And what’s with the “sister” title? Shouldn’t she be called “Mom”?

Later, Zhan Zeyan watched as his little bride became increasingly beautiful. His expression darkened as he pulled his son over and said, “Call her ‘Mom’ and no more calling her ‘sister’ from now on!”

Son: “…Oh.” Turning around, “Sister~”

Zhan Zeyan: “…” He felt like having a heart attack.

Later on, Zhan Zeyan discovered his wife’s little secret.

It turns out that his wife is not human, she is actually…

This story is not about the 80s. It is not a childcaring novel nor a rags to riches novel. It is about Taoist cultivation - like exorcisms, ghosts, demons or yaos (Like creatures who cultivate for years and take human form sorta.)

Our FL knows how to do this Taoist practice and the entire novel is about her faceslapping s*upid villains with her powers. She is very OP and has the magical ability of making everyone fall for her. Every “good” villager will like her tremendously. FL does not undergo... more>> any problems and all issues are solved quickly and easily.

Some spoilers in the review:

FL is a few hundred thousand years old “God” who has lived upto the 21st century but somehow went back into the past into the body of a mortal by the name of Xiao Wenge. She married a soldier to care for his 4 year old child. The baby is a genius who doesn’t act like a 4 yr old at all. More like a 9-10 year old.

Evil villagers plot to use ghosts/gu worms to harm her child and herself and all the faceslapping is done easily as FL is super OP and can control all the ghosts/etc. Even the Lord of Hell listens to her and FL can open the door to hell at any time.

ML comes back and instantly falls in love with FL. FL also has emotions for ML. Their chemistry is pretty meh for me.

They then continue to encounter antagonists who all have the same end: they’ll do something bad and get captured, subsequently they’ll either lose their wealth, their lifeforce or generally suffer. After that they still won’t think its their fault when they’re captured by police, insist FL is the cause of their downfall, do more s*upid things and eventually get a worst ending.

Some antagonists have really terrible endings which I don’t like. Like one girl who is selfish and narcissistic and wanted to marry a handsome rich guy but is plotted by FL to marry a poor ugly guy instead. That girl is then often abused verbally and physically at the home of the in-laws because she keeps fighting and yelling at them. I feel eventhough she does act like a total scum, emphasizing that the in-laws beat her to make her behave is still a terrible end from the author.

The ending of the story is also super abrupt with so many plotholes left unanswered.

Many secondary male leads who just instantly fall in love with FL is also there. I feel Long Yan’s end was supposed to be sad but author did not flesh out his character enough. He’s basically like ML’s clone only he did evil things and FL dislikes him while he’s totally in love with her. At the end he’ll be standing far away from FL while reminscing and thinking “I will be punished and suffering in Hell for the evil acts I committed. But actually I was tricked. I did it to become my own person to be worthy of you.” And I’m like... I’m not even sad because this dude didn’t even appear in the story frequent enough to make me like him.

Ugh. Only read if you want OP FL who excel faceslapping antagonists. <<less

The synopsis and the title is misleading. I didn’t mind the fantasy part much as it was entertaining. The author had great ideas and novel had potential just it was poorly executed. All the plots with fantasy elements followed the same pattern, different villains but same type of villain with same reactions and similar resolution. There is quite a few plot holes too. The romance isn’t very sweet and the FL isn’t pampered by the ML. She is a one-woman show. I love her character though. Besides that, the story... more>> is well paced and the construction of the plots are decent. <<less

Tbh this novel is not bad, but when I look at the "80s" I was hoping it more slice of life rather than fantasy. I don't mind if there is a bit of fantasy, but if it too much honestly I can't really enjoy reading it.

So, if you wanna something light and warm, this is not for you. Too much supranatural and fantasy scene tho I just read until ch. 78. I really can't continue reading this anymore. I will put 4/5. -1 is just because of my preference, other... more>> than that I think this novel is quite good.. <<less
