The sweet time the main couple spends together seems to exist mostly as a contrast to highlight Theo’s mistakes.He was truly awful to Yves in an attempt to overcompensate for the unacceptable attraction to a woman who wasn’t ‘Yvonne’. The only thing in his favor is that the magic that erased his memories would interrupt him with intense painful headaches if he even considered the possibility that they were the same person. The presence of ‘Yves’ caused him pain, but he couldn’t let her go so he tormented her instead. His biggest mistake other than trying to get her to leave on her own two feet was attempting to partner with the ones suspected of wiping out Yvonne’s family. Sure they have clues, but they have even more ulterior motives. Why did he never consider that Yves might also hold clues as someone who was alluded to hold a strong connection to their estate? Why did he not consider how Yvonne might reject him for having a fiancée already even if he managed to find her with such a s*upid method? Why did he not set up more contingencies against obvious enemies while he still had his memory? Smh. He’s asking to get schemed against.
But the whole pretending to have another lover thing was irritating. It continued for such a long time I considered skipping a few chapters to get to the end.
