My opinion of this novel didn't really change much. I still felt that the characters were a little stale. It was not so bad this time, since I was able to persists for 70+ chapters, but, ultimately, I still thought that they were a bit boring. It could also be the progression of plot. You know, the reason I like CN zombie apocalypse novels so much is because it satisfied my inner hoarder LOL. I like to see characters collect stuff. And, oh, by the way, if there is a rebirth opportunity, some timely face-slapping would be good too (basically, the most common rebirth in the apocalypse tropes lolol.)

This novel is different because the MC (Ye Xuan), from the very beginning, lacks the drive. Most of the time, he's just being pushed along by the plot. Sure, in the beginning, he collected a bunch of supplies. But because of the convenience of his Vine, which has spatial abilities, he doesn't suffer much after that fact. He could pretty much settle down wherever he wants, no real suspense there.

Ultimately, the development of this novel is just a bit weak. It's not bad, but definitely not all that good either. When compared to other CN apocalypse novels, it's definitely below average. For that reason, I don't expect to reread it often in the future. At least, unless the TL is completed? The MTL is okay, like 70% readable, but I think the experience would be much better if the TL was completed -- if only because the author is quite descriptive. And a lot of those descriptions become muddled after MTL.  <<less

From the first 25 chapters, my thoughts are... The focus of the novel is mainly only political intrigue. The MC is the eldest son and the legitimate heir of a Marquis. At the start of the novel, we find out that he had actually been reborn. In his previous life, he had done all he could do in order to raise up his lover and enable him to take the Dragon Throne. However, he ended up being pushed aside in favor of his illegitimate half-brother (who said his lover had taken him as a substitute for -- and oh, is a transmigrator!) In this life, after reading a book that lets him see the course of events from his half-brother's perspective, he decides that he wasn't about that life and decides to gain power by aligning himself with the Tyrant, AKA the current emperor, AKA the ML.The length of the novel implies that there are going to be quite a few conflicts sparking up along the way, otherwise, I'm not sure how the author could have created so much content! In my opinion, this novel is a good casual read. The pacing is slow, so you can get to know the characters a lot, and it's amusing when they win (though a noticed some reviewers say the MC and the ML win too easily in later chapters.) I decided not to do a full review for now, since I didn't get very far into the novel. But my opinion of the novel is slightly positive at the moment. I like the banter and chemistry between the main CP. Though, as for the plot, it didn't keep my interest for very long. <<less

???/5!!! [Rebirth, Historical: Ancient China, Political Intrigue] Not a bad read, but after a while, the focus is mostly on the political intrigue, so I got bored. Still worth reading though! It’s arranged like your typical revenge-driven rebirth story, but in a more natural way. Not so directed. At least, the MC is not eagerly chasing after it, it’s just the trouble comes knocking no matter what. Which splits the tone of the story in two. One is the face-slapping aspect and the other is the sweet, slice of life romance between the reborn MC and the pitiful ML who stuck with him in his previous life.Summary: The MC (An Changqing) was a timid and... more>> cowardly kind of person. His life at home was not good, and he was often bullied, resulting in a very meek personality. That is why, when he was asked to become the male wife of the rumored bloodthirsty northern warlord, he was entirely against it. He spent his first life like this, always avoiding his husband and just willing his time away. He didn’t realize his wrongs until he died prematurely and was forced to wander around his husband as a ghost — only to be left to see his miserable end. During his second chance at life, he intends to live happily with his husband, and refuses to let anything get in their way.

I liked the romance aspect, it was chill and sweet, despite the fact that the personality of the characters are a bit formulaic (kind, soft shou and apathetic and stoic gong that only cares about the MC lolol). The political intrigue was interesting as well, but after reading many similar stories, I can already guess where things are going, so it’s not as fun anymore.

ANYWAY, as per usual, since half of what I read was in MTL (which is 70% readable), I won’t be giving this a full review. As for the preliminary rating, it would have to be around 3-4 stars out of five. <<less
