I Don’t Want To Be Reborn

Ye Xuan, relying on his wood-type ability, had been fighting for ten years in the apocalypse. He survived the early apocalyptic period of moral collapse, passed through the middle of the apocalypse with multi-party struggles, and finally reached the stage of order and stability. His post apocalyptic life was finally on track.

Just as he was thinking about whether to spawn a watermelon or an apple as a fruit after dinner, a white light flashed, and he returned to the time before the world ended.

Ye Xuan: WTF!

Ye Xuan, who had just been reborn: I don’t want to be reborn, please send me back!

Ye Xuan a few months later: Coming to the past could not be remonstrated and being reborn was quite good.

He was not a good person in the traditional sense. He only did whatever he wanted to do. Rather than being cold to everyone, he was soft only to those close to him.

So, I'm halfway done with this. To be honest, there isn't really anything overly interesting or new about this novel. It reminds me of "The Rebirth of the Last Days and Return to [Fang] Hao" a lot. However, unlike that novel, this one's ML is a bit irritating to me - just personal preference, I think others would most likely love him. One reason for that is because he feels very virg*n Mary where he just wants to save everyone. If it wasn't for MC he'd probably die 10 times... more>> by this point.

He's so nice to the point it's ridiculous (sharing supplies, saving random people that would most likely kill them etc) but I guess it's to highlight how cold MC is or something. Another thing that got me super irritated was how he still wanted to help his sh*t dad who cut relationship with him and didn't give him money (child abandonment stuff) as he's growing and cheated on his mom - basically all around trope shitty dads that also exist irl, you know.

Anyway, that last point really got my eyebrow twitching. I quite like MC but ML just annoys me lol.

I'm asian so I also know stuff about filial piety and stuff but there's a point where you just. Not. You get me? <<less

(UPDATED: 11/23/2022) :

My opinion of this novel didn't really change much. I still felt that the characters were a little stale. It was not so bad this time, since I was able to persists for 70+ chapters, but, ultimately, I still thought that they were a bit boring. It could also be the progression of plot. You know, the reason I like CN zombie apocalypse novels so much is because it satisfied my inner hoarder LOL. I like to see characters collect stuff. And, oh, by the way, if... more>> there is a rebirth opportunity, some timely face-slapping would be good too (basically, the most common rebirth in the apocalypse tropes lolol.)

This novel is different because the MC (Ye Xuan), from the very beginning, lacks the drive. Most of the time, he's just being pushed along by the plot. Sure, in the beginning, he collected a bunch of supplies. But because of the convenience of his Vine, which has spatial abilities, he doesn't suffer much after that fact. He could pretty much settle down wherever he wants, no real suspense there.

RATING: 2.75/5

Ultimately, the development of this novel is just a bit weak. It's not bad, but definitely not all that good either. When compared to other CN apocalypse novels, it's definitely below average. For that reason, I don't expect to reread it often in the future. At least, unless the TL is completed? The MTL is okay, like 70% readable, but I think the experience would be much better if the TL was completed -- if only because the author is quite descriptive. And a lot of those descriptions become muddled after MTL.

OLD REVIEW:

Just checked it out. As mentioned by another reviewer, it's very similar to another novel ("The Rebirth of the Last Days... "). At least in that the MC is reborn and happens upon a Junior that's in love with him. It's more low key tho? The MC and ML never met in the previous life. So they're starting completely fresh.

Anyway, I ended up not being all that into the characters. I didn't dislike them or anything like that, but their characterizations were a bit... shallow? Stale? Idk, I just didn't feel much about them. For the novel I mentioned earlier, I thought that Fang Hao (the ML of that novel) was cute from the getgo. This one, while I don't dislike him, I also don't have much of an opinion on him. My opinion might improve in the future, but I'll wait for the official translation! (The MTL is actually pretty good, but I have this feeling that I'm missing something.) <<less

what can I say? it was an interesting enough read I completed it in like 3 days, pretty standard the mtl is easy to read, but there is no meat whatsoever, not much romance, the characters don't have that much dept, there are several characters and plot lines that appear in just one chapter to never be mention again and the author decided

Spoiler

to end in a non-ending, open ending...

[collapse]

and well, it was a good enough novella to make me think, that's all???... WTF! meh...

The story kinda lost it's way half way through? And just finished like that.

But at least it explained why MC were reborn, and what the mission is.

And somehow the earth consciousness is a little slap dash in here. But I guess it fits MC careless persona.

And it's quite rare to have a non battle oriented ability to be the MC of an apocalypse novel. So I applaud the author. It's entertaining enough though not brilliant.

It's not bad, but it's not good either. Actually the characterizations in the novel is kind of shitty and it irritated me alot. The author is somewhat yin and yang with the logic, some of the stuff gets turned on it's head. It makes empathizing with the characters hard, and some parts can be especially jarring. I think thats the main and most important reason.

If you still want to read an apocalyptic novel, I'd still recommend to give it a go. There's still some fighting monsters, hoarding and levelling up... more>> in the novel, but I'd recommend to just skip the parts where they have to interact with other characters, or with themselves honestly lol. All the characters are irritating to me including the ML and MC. <<less

Seme protagonist, second chance at life/ rebirth, zombie apocalypse, storage space, plant power gong/seme, ice power shou/uke

So I actually dropped this novel once before and now a few months later I reread it completely. The reason I felt bored was that the MC is the gong/seme and he's also not very ambitious. The MC has a storage space not a magical small world type space.

I like the uke he's cute Infront of his Lover but strong and cold Infront of others.

I really like it so far. Some things seems a bit too convenient regarding the apocalypse/preparing for it, but it still gets 4 stars and that is because of the romance.

Spoiler

The ML is the sweetest little thing, calling MC senior and having a one sided crush since forever. MC doesn't remember him and has no romantic feelings at the beginning, but he is touched by his sincerity. I can see an eventual romance forming very realistically.

[collapse]

The ML though, after all the dominating, unhealthily possessive and almost abusive MLs in other novels, this one is like a breath of fresh air.

Spoiler

He loves in the right way. When the MC seems to have money problems he decides to offer to lend him all his savings, and does it without question. When the world seems about to go to hell he tries to gives MC supplies under the guise of storing them at his house, we even got to know that MC got a mysterious package in his past life that saved him when the apocalypse hit. ML is not reborn, and he died early in apocalypse in last life. This cinnamon roll seems to be a true one, and his devotion has moved me deeply. This is the right way to love.

[collapse]

If someone loves me, I want them to love me in this way. <<less

More like 3.5, I enjoyed it, but the author didn't flesh out the story much. I was left unfulfilled and wanting more.

I read a few reviews not liking the MC and ML but I found both characters fine, not fleshed out but good.

MC is cold and detached because he spent 10 years in the apocalypse getting betrayed and seeing the worst of humanity. I think how he responded reflects that, he does start to grow and change but then the story ends.

ML was ok, the author didn't give him much.... more>> I really wanted the ML to be fleshed out and given more parts.

Many characters were introduced and forgotten, then others were randomly brought back. There is a random time skip that was unecessary.

I liked the zombie killing parts with the 2 of them, but there wasn't enough. Also would have liked them to form some sort of team instead of just relying on ML family.

Their romance is ok. I do appreciate that the MC didn't fall in love right away, started with some ambiguous feelings and grew, but again I wanted more. Their relationship was cute but lacking at the same time.

I MTL'd it and most parts were easy but some parts made my brain mushy. I will probably read again when it's been translated, from what I've seen of the translation, it's good. <<less

The story is good so far. Has a lot in common with 'rebirth with fang Hao', but unlike that story, the MC in this one didn't really have that hard a life. But he also never had someone in his heart, which might be the reason he was so mistrusting of everyone including ml. Ironic, considering he lived quite long and well in the apocalypse in his last life.
