I like this novel but it’s really frustrating the actual game thriller paradise is just so flawed thriller paradise the game is an instance based... more>> vrmmo horror Rougelike at least that’s how I would describe it the concept behind the game is cool but the issue is matchmaking and rewards so basically the game will assign missions not based on level but assumed competence which is a mix of skill gear and level honestly that would be fine if the reward matched up with the difficulty but it just doesn’t which is frustrating but it gets worse when even the side missions or world building will end up having inconsequential rewards this could also work but the author writes out every scenario entirely so we may spend 20 chapters on a scenario where in the end our main character gets a consumable skill that gets used next mission for another consumable skill the author loves giving consumables and the thing with consumables is no matter how good they are in this they suck because there is no way to get more of the specific one realistically on top of this our main character is a casual so he games less then pros and he’s poor and unlucky so his gear sucks too. The lack of development in terms of this skills items and abilities makes it harder to gauge the power progression which tends to feel like there stronger because there level went up with no quantifiable way to tell how much stronger because there are no stats the only thing the author really has to show our character is improving is the ability categories tiers but he f*cked himself by making it so it’s f through s because it means there are 6 levels per ability and our main character is mostly a generalist in spite of the fact he should probably have high sleuthing as his thing and decent everything else because he mostly does puzzle stuff but doesn’t have high sleuthing because reasons I guess his lack of fear is cool and gives him access to the embodiment of valor tier of rewards every time aside from it being the same rewards every time he’s also slightly chucked in terms of this because as stated early on in novel if the devs had thought of someone like him there would be a higher tier it ends up being used so our character can level a bit faster. Anomalies are frustrating because our character uses tons of time and resources for literally no reward. The real life sections are frustrating because they contain a mostly separate few characters save for his best friend. The best thing this novel has are the scenarios stories but the rewards are never equal to the effort or difficulty and always disappoint I also like relationship between mc and love interest but no real life stuff from the, as far as I have gotten. anomalies could have been interesting like tying them Into sorcery weapons or just our mcs because he has been described as an anomaly himself in some ways but mostly they end up meaning little to no rewards from our mc and maybe even making a loss
