This story is better than I thought. The romance is definitely slow. The two have only slept together for 120 chapters or more. There are obviously some flaws and the ending is rather quick, which leaves a feeling of dissatisfaction. But it's still fun to read.

Both MC and ML were very young from the beginning. They are like mouse and cat.

Their early interactions are very interesting. From mutual attraction to feelings for each other.

... more>> MC is easily frightened, he may be very experienced, but he has certain shortcomings.

ML was a spoiled child, raised by the emperor to rule. He's still very childish, but doesn't give off an unpleasant feeling. ML will have future developments. <<less

The focus of the story is not romance, at least not in the first half of the story. It will weird me out if MC easily falls in love with someone he knows is going to die in the book, most especially at the time when he was busy saving his father from the prison. All he wanted was to become the chief advisor of the future emperor from the novel, not the princess consort of the second male protagonist who will die in the end. I think the pacing... more>> is good, it gave MC the time to realize that all he did was actually for ML, not the OG ML.

It will also weirded me out if ML just starts falling in love with MC within days of meeting him. Though, he was fascinated, it took him time to realize that he had developed feelings for MC, which is a more realistic for me.

ML is not a yandere lol. He's the most favorite imperial prince not only by the empress but also the emperor. An imperial prince and the most favorite son, does this combo make you wonder why he's a self-centered brat? Not me. He's childish but not a bad guy, alright. Of course, we have our own different definitions of "scum". Think of a boy who pulls the pigtails of the girl he has a crush on. If you consider that kind of boy a scum, maybe you won't like the ML either.

My rating is 4 because I prefer a better ending but it didn't bother me much and also because I don't consider it a waste of time. I think it's better to read this without taking it seriously, no?

Lastly, friends who prefer faster romance, maybe try the early romance tag. That's it. <<less

Dropping this because I find the ML insufferable. He misunderstands the MC all the time and creates problems for the MC because of his own lack of critical thinking skills & inflated sense of self-importance, then expects MC to be grateful & kiss his ass whenever he saves MC from the trouble that he himself got the MC into. After reading so many selfless, devoted, doting MLs and badass black-bellied yandere MLs, this ML just comes off as annoying & lame to me.

Also the pacing is off, the ML & MC have interacted with each other loads of times, and yet their romance doesn't even feel like it has started yet because they barely even know each other despite having interacted loads of times? And it's not like there's a lot of stuff going on in the main plot either, 32 chapters in and the political shenanigans have barely started. IMO, a romance this slow in this kind of setting needs action, drama, intrigue, mystery, something, anything to spice it up & keep things interesting. Otherwise you're just padding out the story with boring filler and wasting everyone's time.

Only chapter 20 but I sincerely hope it gets better. The male lead is COMPLETELY unlikeable. He's not inspiring, commanding, or amazing - he's a massive douche. He has a brain of rocks and blackmails the MC for literally no reason. The only reason his siblings like him is because the author wrote them that way. Not even the author could provide a reason for why anyone does or should like the male lead.

I like reading about kingdom-building, ancient politics, and etc so I didn't mind that but the ML... more>> is so horrible that I feel bad for the MC. <<less
