A nice bittersweet short-story before bedtime.

Pretty cliché in the beginning, with the MC basically "simping" over the ML and the usual extra cast roasting MC, ehhh like in world-jumping novels when the protagonist has to act like a cannon fodder. It's really hard to keep up with the novel because you'll definitely get frustrated every time with how.... uh, questionable the MC can be.

I was thinking that I'd get to feed myself some teenfic sweets after reading a bunch of angsty things. And oh boy.

It's an ok read if you... more>> are looking for a novel that doesn't have the ML whipped too much.

Not too angsty. The 2 short extras kinda ruin the novel for me, but these are what give the novel a HE tag so, otherwise, embrace the main story's ending.

Spoiler

Chapter 26 and ML is still not with MC "officially", the main story ends at Chapter 28. Big red flag. ML kinda deserves the hate but relatable at the same time.

Personal opinion to explain the rating, might contain spoilers that ruin reading experience

There is this thing that I felt about the novel (especially the MC) that made me rate the novel quite high personally. Even though the MC has done every typical thing in an usual romantic teenfic novel, I felt that the MC didn't exactly love the ML, it was more like an adoration (or pity for someone that deserves to live more than MC) out of desperation, giving himself a purpose in an unknown world. He was an ordinary person transmigrated into a novel with tr*shy reputation, not a Fantasy genre so no magical buff or heroic destiny to accomplish, bad at maths so no skills for financial management, can't be a hermit when you have a bunch of concubines and kids (that are not even his) to take care of.

At the start of the novel, MC constantly looked for a way to survive and change his bad ending, typical, anyone would do that. Yet, he was willing to suffer a similar ending in the end. MC made a choice that is his own, within his capacities as an ordinary person. His decision is not related to the novel world's original plot, it was for his "love" towards ML, something that is from the MC and not the original holder of his body.

Aka dealing with existential crisis indirectly by finding a raison d'être, justifying the MC's circumstances imo. I don't think this is the author's intention but this novel left an impression on me hahaha.

Spoilers if needed, in case you are confused why I wrote "bittersweet" above
Spoiler

The HE tag is a bit imo misleading. Without the last extra, it would have been a solid B (ad) E (nding) actually. From what I've seen, apparently the first extra only made it a G (ood) E (nding), and the second one a forced HE, not many liked it. I personally prefer the BE one, and wish that I could unsee the extras.

If anyone is looking for a novel similar to this one, I can recommend 篡夺皇位后,他死遁了, same type of bittersweet but not one-sided, lengthy at first but the later chapters are kind of worth it. Spoilers to be absolutely avoided for best experience. <<less

I kept reading hoping it'd get better. It didn't.

MC is does everything without thinking. He tries to change the plot, fails or makes a fool of himself. Falls in love with ML because he's hot. That's it. That's all it can be because he only spoke a handful of times to the ML and know he's willing to be whipped?! (At that part he spoke to him maybe 3 times)

The dude is dumb and in love with a guy he barely knows.

It's a pass for me.

The protagonist is completely devoid of honor. There is a distinction between being shameless and lacking pride. Additionally, he made numerous sacrifices for someone he had only known for a month, he ultimately jeopardized his health and nearly destroyed a prestigious military family as a result. As for the ML, I'm unsure what to say about him. His character is somewhat balanced and suitable for traditional thinking and their rejection of homosexuality, but he is so cold that it provokes the reader.
