Time travelling from the majestic era after the Recuperation of Reiki, he became Kimura Kazuki, a 16-year-old high school student in Japan, one year before the Reiki Recuperation.

Tentatively, he set out to hone himself to the bone, burning candles at both ends to stockpile resources in preparation for the imminent Recuperation of Reiki. His goal was to be many steps ahead of all humanity when the time comes.

However, it seemed like fate had decided to play a cruel trick on him.

One year later, the Recuperation of Reiki… did not happen as expected.

This is actually pretty good. In no way does it deserve three stars like the rest of the cultivation regressor novels.

Main Character is a guy who regressed from a few years in the future where there was paranormal stuff due to ghost energy coming back to the world. He prepares for the day that happens, but it ends up not happening. So he ends up deciding to hunt ghosts, which still exist.

And guess what? People don't like it. Well, as expected from webnovel, where they dump out heaps of fast... more>> paced tr*sh harem cultivation novels.

Some of the complaints-

  1. Too slow.
To address that- Imagine thinking getting through the equivelant of 1 arc in 20 chapters is slow. Imagine, getting pissed about detailed descriptions. Imagine getting pissed that this novel isn't another transmigration cultivation novel. Like, damn. Not everyone wants to read junk food urban fantasy. Imagine- oops. This was supposed to be a list.

You know what? It's a pretty decent read so far. It's not a tr*shy urban fantasy cultivation novel that I thought it was gonna be. Check it out. See if you like it. <<less

This was pretty good. For some reason, I could not find a translation of the very last chapter (323), and had to read it in MTL. The novel had its slow moments, and frustrating twists, but overall it was nicely restrained. The superpowers are subtle, and take time to grow. It's almost more Wuxia than Xianxia; but it does have elements of cultivation. For a Chinese novel, it's remarkably respectful of Japanese people and culture. People don't always react in realistic ways, but they are far more interesting and reasonable... more>> than most 2-dimensional allies and opponents in so many Xianxia novels.

The last chapter firmly closes an arc (without needlessly long combat scenes which plague Xianxia novels), but also implies a sequel -- which I would like to read. <<less

A 4☆ novel for me, even though I feel slightly disappointed by a couple of things....

First let's talk about MC.... he is poor, dense?, cold (but still humane), shut-in, not arrogant nor humble, cautious (but still make some mistakes), he strong vs human but slight weak vs demon.

Is there romance??? No..... for now.

... more>> World?.. only limited in Japan (majority in tokyo) ((look at the title dude))

Story??? Its a Slice of Life-action-and-info-dumps-novel with slow pace (i enjoyed the SoL part, but no with slow pace, bc of the short total chaps, 324 chaps)... well there are 3 big arc as of now.......

Spoiler

• 1st arc (end in chaps 100+/// this basically an info dumps arc)........ MC fight against multi-armed-demon (fusion of many evil spirits) he ran away while injuring the demon (MC nearly died), then he rescued by 2 normal people (1 bcm his friend (male) other 1 bcm love interest (girl)... then he recuperate, bcm more powerful, challange again (this time +2 strong evil spirits) he won, and gain power up (up to lv 4 fondation establishment).... and ofc the SoL part in between this arc.

• Arc 2 (still ongoing).... this time kendo tournament (MC join this to fulfill the obsessiveness of quadruplets mother (furuhashi sister//love interest) so the eldest (harunaka) bcm woman champion).... its still info dumps about kendo things, but enjoyable for me (cause not too many)...... in district qualifier, he end up carry his school (mens team//cause he the only one that can beat majority opponent)... he bcm district champion...... and so harunaka (cause he train her, show a bit his power, cleansing her body with soup?)... Oh!! And in this tournament he will fights ancient kendo community (low cultivator)....

▪ Arc 3?? (Early/ongoing/overlap) he framed by demon for killing someone, police come, but bc his fame they didn't jail him, the deputy chief of them come (believe in supranatural), seek help to MC, MC agree,.... ongoing

[collapse]

Battle?....a good one for me, especially in kendo arc.

MC power??
Spoiler

he reach tsumei kenshin? In sword and fondation establishment stage 5

[collapse]

Hmm... reading this just like watching anime...... well~ no pob with info dumps just read...... just read first.......... <<less

Strictly speaking it's a pretty bad book. There were some satisfying parts in it, with some power tripping fantasy and it did have the base for enjoyable slice of life and maybe even potential for romance, it did not however deliver.

As for why didn't it work, that's a hard question. I'm of the opinion that the main character was never actually developed and explored to the extent where he should have been, creating sort of a void between him and other characters. We didn't really know who he was, what... more>> did he wanted from life, how strong was he, what did he like to do- there wasn't much about him.

Even the author kind of just gave up on his book and went from 100 to 0 within the spawn of 3 chapters, instantly ending the whole book without explanations for so many things. That was a little bit too much though, I felt like the book deserved slightly more love from him. I don't know what got into him.

I guess if the author hadn't just neutered book and had instead made a proper ending with all the plotlines and branches explained (including the relationship ones) I would have given this book the barely passing grade of three stars. Now it's just going to be 2. Not really a book worth reading if you ask me. <<less

Good.. Great actually.. Foreshadows, subverts, has a good flow, and introduces characters who matter and aren't just flat - also no racism, patriotism, nationalism.. But well, why was it dropped by the author? As said in Meloonseed's review, it is absolutely better than the urban harem cultivation junk constantly coming out as it is actually well-thought out. I'm sad that I won't see the future of this novel.

. So just because there is two younger characters (which are not love interests) later on, you call it loli-obsessed?!-- it's a school... more>> genre! So don't expect mature women to just pop up when the cast are supposed to be students! Welp that's just my rant because it isn't important at all in the story. Oh and this isn't one of those japanese generic novels, this is actually cn, and a well-written one. <<less

Japanese are obsessed with loli characters, and this work further fortifies the thought.

Overall a light reading with a growing and learning MC. Too many loli characters spoil the story.
