  • Note: this was written in a rage-filled mood cause by this novel. The only good points in my opinion are the writing and translation, that honestly have me swooning, so I feel obligated to give 3/5 stars, but I hate the whole rest.
If you’re looking for a satisfying and sweet story - that’s not it. Although the author promises “HE, sweet, not abusive”, the story leaves a disgusting after taste in the way it leads with what was pretty much r*pe and is not satisfying at... more>> all. Gave up after c19.

The Plot:

Spoiler

Xu Yueming’s brother from the same orphanage suffered a car accident 6 years before the story starts, and needs a very expensive surgery - and a pimp offers to pay the surgery if Yueming goes to his nightclub “entertain” an important guest, ML, for that night. It happens, MC tries to leave and fight and cries for mercy several times while ML r*pes him, and then escapes the pimp and becomes a famous screenwriter. The plot then moves to how infatuated ML becomes after seeing him again, even if MC is repulsive as f*ck and obviously disgusted by even being near him, and then after less than 6 months and after a landslide and a kidnapping attempt by the pimp, MC is now very much in love with ML. No questions, talking, venting, therapy or anything happening. That’s the point where I stopped reading.

[collapse]

Why I Hate It:

If from the plot description you can’t guess it already, it’s the whole plot of “ (essentially) r*pe victim meets aggressor after years of not seeing, aggressor doesn’t remember them, aggressor falls in love and chases them, r*pe victim falls in love with aggressor, all traumas, shadows and problems are immediately forgiven because aggressor was not at fault and genuinely (argh) loves the victim now”. That’s it.

Why You Can Still Like It:

If you’re comfortable or like the plot till now, then you’re gonna be delighted or know both the author’s and translator’s prose are AMAZING, I almost finished the whole novel even while disgusted only because of the prose. The MTL is easy and the other characters are cute and lovable, the pace is very fast (if this is a plus for you), and it’s a very quick read.

Honestly, if I could get behind the whole ickness I felt while reading, this would steadily climb into one of my favorite novels. <<less
