I dropped this and here’s why;

I really liked the MC, I liked the fact that she loved herself enough to leave the s*um who treated her as a substitute, change her environment and come back a better version of herself. However I’m dissatisfied with the fact that she’s giving him a second chance.

For what reason?

What did he do to deserve a second chance, he doesn’t in my opinion. His character setting is a somewhat indifferent frivolous playboy who’s never had to work for any woman’s affection before and definitely never... more>> respected anyone’s feelings for him before. Honestly, I feel he’s only into her now because she moved on, if she didn’t have enough self respect and kept clinging to him after finding out she’s been used as a substitute I can bet he still wouldn’t have loved her.

All in all I was hoping she’d move on to someone better, at first I thought Gu yan was going to be it but sadly the author decided to force a HE for a relationship that should obviously have a BE conclusion.

So yeah I couldn’t continue. <<less

Dropped. ML is a jerk and he doesn't even grovel because he knows she'll come back to him. Always smirking like a smug brat every other line, irritating and annoying. No character arc or development for miles.

FL had a clear character arc - naive and innocent to disillusioned, betrayed and humiliated to moving on, becoming indifferent and a boss babe... but all that development just to take that smug jerk back and he is still smirking! Seriously, she took him back but acts as if she doesn't care about him... more>> or his feelings anymore and that SHE is the one using HIM. What a joke! All that potential and good character development down the drain.

Better to skip if you want angst or a self-reflective and repenting ML who at the very least grovels for his myriad of mistakes.

Also, the transformational sequence of the FL is a joke - after their break up, there's only one chapter or maybe just a half chapter before time skip and they meet again. Again, what a joke! <<less

Its alright. As usual, its a crematorium story. What not to like? Some people can get second chances & some people don't, people who are beyond saving & this ML can be saved. He reflected himself altho sometimes he forces thru things that's just his young master temper, he won't forced it if she doesn't like it tho.

Me favorite character is Mrs. Xu, I love her! She's the best 👌

Oh & I started to read from chapter 14 because that's the part where she realized she have to cut things... more>> off. I just don't like reading a part where the MC loves the other so much that she forgot to love herself first 💁🏻‍♀️ <<less

4.0. A pretty good crematorium novel, I loved how the FL took time for herself and grew into a strong confident woman. When she decided to get back together with him after he took the initiative to grovel, she had emotional boundaries in place to never lose her dignity in love like she did in the past. ML was tr*sh in the beginning and I think he deserved to grovel more. His grovelling falls short of Zhou yang in the other novel written by the same author tbh. I think... more>> this was the prequel in the shared universe, so the novel with Zhou yang as the ML just felt more full to me. Nevertheless, this was still an enjoyable and riveting read. <<less

I gave it five stars to boost the rating. It shouldn’t be as low as it is.

Both leads had clear character developments, though FL’s was much more satisfying.

The story had a few plot holes, like the characters ages, namely, the age gap between FL and her brother.

The whole story was easy to follow, yes it was frustrating at points, but that made the resolution much easier to pallet.

I finished it because I loved the author's other novel, and because I thought I'd get some good groveling. There wasn't much groveling here, sadly. Just pestering from the ML. Overall, 4 stars.
