Synopsis was pretty interesting, so I gave it a shot.

I'm not exactly the most interested in a slice of life gender bender type of story, so perhaps someone with an interest in this genre would like it more than I would, but to me, it's considerably average.

What I thought was well done about this webnovel was that you actually got to know the personality of the main character. This is very important, and I think the novel does a good enough job. He was a 14 year old junior high... more>> student, pretty responsible for his age, and had to deal with his transition into a yuki onna. He gets shy and uncomfortable with his new body, and as a young kid, his childish reactions are cute. He sometimes curses at his fate, but accepts it as well, and loves his family. He's pretty well characterized, and I think this is definitely the strongest point. Lots of gender bender novels describe their gender transition very poorly, as in the character is like "oh I have a new body cool, " so I definitely give this novel full marks on that.

But there are problems with the other characters. The mother and father fit more of a comedy novel than a slice of life/coming to age novel, if I'm being honest here. It's like "you're a girl, here's your new powers, and we're going to send you off to school with your new life, bye." Now, of course, it's not exactly like that, and the parents do get a fair bit of time to interact with our protagonist, but they kind of fall short, and are pretty one dimensional. They come off as unrealistic/unbecoming of the story.

Now again, I really don't see a lot of merit with this novel. While it certainly isn't bad, there isn't a lot of reason for me to continue on with the story. Dialogue, descriptions, world building are all acceptable, but nothing to write home about either. It's obviously not a comedy novel either, and more focused on the day to day interactions that Yukiya has to deal with, and his transition into a yuki onna. Again, perhaps it's not my cup of tea, but I couldn't keep reading after a certain point. <<less
