The story started out ok, time travel is the flavor of the month but whatever. So extremely strong magician travels back in time and somehow ends up a little girls bitch as he travels around babysitting her as she tries to be an adult adventurer. What happened to being a bad ass magician, instead we got some passive ten year old playing adventurer magician. I was expecting a entertaining story, not a story about playing house.

The magic system is kind of confusing, so you don’t really understand half the MC... more>> inner monologues. However I’m not sure whether that is due to translation or author being a bad writer.

Every character introduced so far has been rather unlikable, including the MC.

The writing is not at the level of burning out the eyes so its a 2/5 <<less

So I defiantly misjudged this one, as it's not at all bad later on. At first it seems like a tale of a young protagonist lead astray by an overbearing female, but it is nothing of the sort. What we really have a compelling tale of four adventures in a world conspiracy and potential betrayal of the worst kind.

interesting second-chance story. The MC spent all this life learning red (fire) magic and was revered for his skill but is was found out that his potential for red magic is low. He had hit the "counter-stop". Bitter and angry, he develops a way to go back to when he was younger and this time, learn magic he had the greatest potential in. Only read the first 11 chapters, but the story seems interesting enough. He's armed with the all the knowledge he had in the future and will now... more>> use it to rapidly get to the top. <<less

It surprises me everytime how series like this are hated by the community here, while the ones with genders reversed are hailed as the best thing ever. Let's be honest, if this really was as bad as people say, it wouldnt have gotten even a manga adaption.

While it certainly does get very technical concerning magic, it achieves what it sets out to be: a balanced knowledge from the future harem novel in a magical world setting. The heroines are cute and the character archetypes and tropes are used well and... more>> seem to match the characters and their experiences. <<less

This novel is misunderstood by a lot of ppl. Keep your opinions to yourself if you want to misconstrue. This is a HAREM manga! Btw, the magic system makes a lot of sense and is easy to understand.

Zeff mixes and matches to get new spells, trial and error, making himself stronger in his 2nd life.

Zeff is no ones bitch; he throws fire at some bullies early in the beginning, that's why I know some ppl can't read.

Zeff follows along this girl becuz he's curious about her power. The story is... more>> completely legit. She is rude and crazy, but more hilarious. More girls start to join, the story arcs into a harem, originally intended.

ppl who don't like harem stories should not read this. Those of you who think the story is confusing, I recommend Dr Sueus. <<less

I don’t know why any body will rate this book high, I just didn’t like it. The plot settings are so simple and inconsistent that it just didn’t make any sense. The magic system has many flaws, and the story just doesn’t get you excited. Everything seems to happen in easy pace. Even for Jap novels with their pastel reality, this one is one of the worst stories I have read.

Well, how should I put it? Sure, it doesn't go to much detail in magic that been used. But for me, it doesn't give it justice if you just put 1 stars. Well, it has good enough storyline with good pace, I think. Not rushed neither slow. And beside that, it has interesting development when the MC isn't flustered at all with girl (He is an Old man, so yeah...).

Interesting read for me. Oh BTW, for someone who insult author because it is a cliche WN. Well, can you... more>> make a story where they can make you money? If you never try it, please don't say anything. No matter how troublesome and ugly a story, it is still a creation of someone. So please don't insult an author. <<less

The story is supposed to be about an old genius wizard going back in time into his younger self body. It doesn't feel that way at all unfortunately: he thinks like a teenager, acts like a teenager, so this doesn't feel believable at all. No cleverness, no wisdom, just a bored teenager "leveling up" because that's what all people need to do after all, senseless level up. Also, the level system is so standard it's useless and actually makes the story worse.

Also, the translator (for vol 1 at least)... more>> is so so, with Japanese words mixed in, and random non vocal words written as actual sounds (like the little "tsu", I hate this one, it's so misunderstood: it's supposed to be a voiceless sound dammit!). <<less

part of me wants to rate this lower, just because of how disappointed I was when it completely and utterly squandered its rather solid premise.

Basically, powerful old mage guy spent his whole life trying to master flame magic, then someone develops a spell that lets others see what your aptitude for different types of magic is. He discovers he had really low aptitude for fire, but high in other categories, and then is disgraced (Not sure why exactly) when a younger mage overtakes him.

So he sends himself back in time... more>> to redo his life, focusing on the magic he has aptitude for.

So that sets up a situation where a person has future knowledge and a mature mind, gets to start over.

And then they do ABSOLUTELY nothing with that. He meets a bunch of kids, Girls, HAREM girls who are like, 1/10 his age, and forms a guild and hunts rpg monsters that is basically the setting of a cheep WOW knock off.

the plot goes nowhere.

The one, potentially interesting thing, was he meets up with a girl, who happens to have that spell that lets on see their aptitude. But guess what, she has the spell, its from her father, but in the future he knows, she, nor her father, are the one who developed it. Then, they meet another girl, who strangely enough, is the person he remembers from the future having claimed the spell was her own.

And then we go exactly nowhere with that.

He gets angry and lashes out at the girl who presumably steals it in the future, then when both girls point out hes acting irrationally, he says sorry, and then invites her to the guild, and they never speak of it again.

Okay, besides the squandered potential of this story, its not bad. Its generic, but decent. The big issue, is they go into way too much depth of specific spells and pointless magical theorizing. I guess it's supposed to show how wise the MC is, but instead it comes off as a bore.

like if someone explained an entire match of magic the gathering (CCG), explaining each card that showed up in the match, only to at the end go. "And then I won" Theres no twist, nothing interesting in the explanation.

This is made worse by the fact the chapters are small, with very little content in them. And a large portion of them are wasted on the MC, who is again, in his 80's or something, flirting with 10 year olds. <<less

I keeps trying to reach chap 100 before I really judge it but the journey is rough. The couple first dozen chapters seem somewhat enjoyable but like everyone said, he is supposed to be an old, wise man but all I'm seeing is some dude from his 20 that trying not to have s*x with those little girls. That's not all there is to it. A couple more dozen chapters in when the fighting really get heated up, it all ended in a somewhat boring way, don't get me wrong,... more>> the fight itself is pretty good but the end of the fight is just pure disappointment. And from around that onwards things get downhill, fast. The interaction between characters is like some teenagers talking to each other. And don't even talk about the "pervert" part that the girls are fussing about. The road to 100 is rough but I can't deny that I really have fun reading this novel before, too bad it's not worth reading anymore. <<less

The Manga is better and at least entertaining with its art.

The story started somewhat interesting. Feel off at girl bitchy stereotype. And started to grapple in hell... when everything he did was... "Ohh.. Magic! I can just use that other magic I held back~"

Probably translator using machine translation too...

I give it a two for the premise and the fact that the manga rendition came out pretty well.

The story starts off not so badly, but quickly unravels into the MC prancing about fighting random RPG monsters with his harem girls...

Pretty good but the MC is as emotional as a rock.

Expect game elements in the novel. Female protag carrying most of the charm like a pro though.

I really wanted to like this. I really did. I really hoped that it wouldn't fall into the same old and boring cliches, but alas, I stand corrected.

It started out pretty interesting. The MC was an old man who was seen as a Red Mage master, but after a new magic which could display your proficiency/talent with the different magic systems was released to the masses, it was discovered that the MC actually had terrible talent as a Red Mage. Soon he was stripped of his title as the Red... more>> Mage Master, and bitter of his life choices and lost fame, he spends the rest of his life to study Time Magic. With said magic he sends his conscience to the past, particularly to his 10 years old body. It was pretty good so far, but from here it took a nosedive. The chapters quickly became your average fill of 2nd grade Shounen. No one questions the sudden change in the MC's personality, the token loli makes an adventurer guild and has the MC join it and proclaims herself the guildmaster, yet the MC does all the actual guild stuff, so in effect he's the guildmaster. And to top it off the MC hasn't matured mentally, despite the fact that he was an OLD MAN before he reverted time. You might argue that the time reversal messed up his conscience, but it's explained that the spell made the MC keep his conscience. There was no talk about any detrimental effects from the magic. Anyway, continuing on. They train a bit, meet harem member #2 - the domestic abuse victim -, and leave for the big city to further their guild. Oh did I forget to say they do this while they're only 10 years old? Yeah, who in their right mind would just allow their 10 years old to leave home without any thorough explanation. Even with a thorough explanation, I still wouldn't let my 10 years old child leave home as it's too dangerous. And the MC's mother even talked about the MC's marriage... and he's still 10 years old... Sorry, not sorry, but this felt pretty braindead to me at the moment.

Moving on the party moves to the big city and try to further their guild. This basically become a bit of a farming/grinding mini-arc, where the party defeats various mobs. But what really irritates me is how all the women of the party instinctively seem to be drawn to the MC. It's clear to see that the author wants to create a 3rd rate harem plot just for the sake of having a harem. It's really sad to see authors who try to make their stories more interesting through forced harems.
Anyway, from here I just slightly skimmed the story, as I was already pretty done with it. I think the last straw was when the MC showed how much of a coward he really was. He acts tough all the time and doesn't appear to really mind broken limbs, but when he was confronted by Magicians from the Magician Association his brave facade was utterly destroyed. At that point I knew I was done with the story. I can't stand cowardly characters who try to act tough, just to cower in fear when they're confronted by stronger people, in this case stronger Magicians. The forced harem and the braindead logic doesn't help.

TLDR: The story started out pretty well and had an interesting premise. Sadly the interesting premise was quickly destroyed for the sake of braindead logic, an at the very best mediocre story/plot and a forced harem. To top it off the MC appears to be brave and doesn't mind broken limbs, but when he's confronted with stronger Magicians from the Magician Association his brave facade utterly breaks. So yeah, good start, terrible handling/continuation.

I give it 1½ stars, as I don't think it's the worst thing I've ever ready, but the braindead writing doesn't sit well with me. Hope you found this review helpful. <<less

Inoffensive RPG-peggy sue story

Setting: Basically your typical JRPG-based world with levels and magic types and stuff, except slightly more interesting in that the Scout / Scan magic that is used to quantify things is more like a new technology, setting the story in motion. Played straight, no our-worlders or game players, everyone is in-setting compatible.

Character: typical oblivious MC, subtype ambitious and studious type who gets a soft spot for his comrades.

Otaku-darkness rating: no magical slave harems, no revenge fantasies, no orc rape camps, all in all, very low levels of... more>> Dark Otaku fantasy, you can actually read this story and feel happy with yourself afterwards. <<less

An overachiever invested in the wrong skill, he got mad over various things and turned back time.

He got a chance to redo his life, and he chose to live befittingly. Not just his talent, but also for the experience he got from his previous life.

So? No more loner BS, no more crawling in the dark, no more "I want to do this, but for my dream, I can't".

... more>> What does that mean as a piece of writing? It's refreshing, unrestrained and fun.

Story is there is no story. Characters develop well, the use of trope is well thought out. Though battle scene doesn't quite shine and the technical explanation about magic is a tad unclear, but you can chalk it up to slice of life or game element. The slightly jarring part isn't hard to ignore - 4/5. <<less

This novel is OK. It has this game element within the context of the novel. MC uses a spell that turns back time and he's successful.

So basically, when he "was" old, like ojii-san old, he only cared about fire attribute/element instead of his other attributes/elements which he neglected so he kind of face-palmed to himself saying "wtf am I doing with my life". He didn't care about girls in general because he was obsessed with fire. Then the turn back time spell which you read (in which you will read... more>> at the beginning), reverts to a child in elementary, starts to better himself in which his potential lies in the other areas of the attributes/elements on which he is f**king good at; starts being mature and gets girls, like literally gets a harem without knowing that the girls will fall for him because of how he knows all sorts of magic and time spell (self created) and how knowledgeable he is. Context (setting) : 4 --> Because it's somewhat (?) of a new thing in LN's now.

Characters: 3 > 3.5
*might add more and will change rating if it gets good in future chapters. For now, please take this review as an overview because I merely summarized the setting*

Overall: 3.5
Because it's how OK it is~

P.S. Read, this. You might like it because you wanted to get a different taste than repetitive genres of other LN's; you might hate it because 1) It doesn't suit your taste, or 2) You hate it because of magic system and MC. Either way, what's to enjoy? Right? <<less

I think this one is first for me, as the MC did something I don't believe I have ever read out of anything I read which is to give himself a second chance at life. No outside interference, no trucks, no gods with a mission he just decided screw my life I want a do-over so he all of a sudden created a spell that allowed him to do so.

As a character, he distances himself from pretty much everybody (i.e his classmates, teachers, and parents) except those similar to... more>> himself. So there are quite few characters that have any motion. Although he planned on doing everything alone he quickly gets dragged along by other dynamic characters, not in the spineless way but in the 'won't stop bothering me might as well way'

Novel is not to far in so there isn't a definite plot atm other than training magic so I can't say much about the overall direction but overall its a fun read. <<less

Novel starts off kinda generic with recarnation except he forcefully recarnates and his recarnation is more like during and starting over with different stats. I see many reviews talk of a forced harem well it's not forced per say firdt member forces herself upon him as a party member because she wanted to start a guild and the other girl joins guild for the first girl but falls for MC later. And he is not a coward but he does know when he is in a position where he can't... more>> fight back early on due to past knowledge. Overall a good read sadly no ones been translating recently but well worth reading if you can read Japanese since this is a novel that Google can't mtl very well or a translator starts translating again <<less
