In the 14th year of the Tianbao era in the Tang Dynasty, a low-ranking official named Li Shande in Chang’an City received a sudden assignment: to transport fresh lychees from Lingnan to the capital before the Noble Consort’s birthday. The lychees are known to “change color on the first day, fragrance on the second, and taste on the third,” but Lingnan is over 5,000 miles away with treacherous mountains and rivers in between, making this an impossible task. But for the sake of his family, Li Shande decided to give it a try, “Even if I fail, I want to know how close I can get to the finish line.”

This novel IS not for the light hearted. I ACTUALLY hate this novel. Because of the simple reason that I hate cruel history. This book is accurate but I really wish it wasn't.

Everyone (officials, emperor, duke, ministeries) is greedy, unhelpful, immoral, conniving, or downright an obstacle (except the minorities / tribe & woman / Muslims). The MC is good hearted but weak willed and incompetent, which proves to be a fatal fault towards the only people who were supporting him (the minorities / Muslims / tribe & woman). In a... more>> lot of ways this is a powerful novel. In all those ways is why I hate this novel. So deeply. The people who suffer under the wills of power and the goddamn greedy privileged royals who f*cking wanted Amazon prime during ancient f*cking china are always the little people, the powerless, the minorities, the farms, the s*aves for survival. This is a book about history, politics, and self discovery after a long journey.

This book is very very well written. The postscript makes it even more obvious how well this book was planned out w purpose, researched, and thought out. Although the current edited mtl translation is quite decent, I think it would be amazing to see what a true great translation could do to this great writing in English. <<less

Hey! The person translating here~ (more like an edited mtler)

Okay, I really like this story a lot. Like really a lot.

It's very realistic and I myself was very angry and sad through the course of the story because of the actions of the various higher officials who are just motherf*ckers.

Minorites, s*aves, people without privilege, common people and more are the ones suffering here. The MC isn't some OP person but a real person who knows he is faulty and weak-willed.

Spoiler

The s*ave who helped the MC really struck a chord with me.

I really hope you can read this because this is real history and people need to know this. I am just mtling and editing it because this was one of the stories that really struck me after I read it. I want more people to know about it. Please buy the official book (alas no english trans) to support the author who done so much extensive research.

I highly encourage an actual translator to pick this up to shed more light on the greatness of the text. Even more, I WANT AN OFFICIAL TRANSLATION!!!!! <<less
