Kim Cheolsu is a shut-in gay virg*n with no social skills and nothing to brag about.

His only hobby is an old computer game called ‘Zombie Country’.

One day, the game company announces that it’s turning Zombie Country into a virtual reality game and invites Kim Cheolsu to be one of its beta testers.

Wow, amazing! My favorite game is becoming VR, and I get to be a beta tester! Let’s see what it’s like to play…

But why are the NPCs so damn hot… no, I mean, handsome? This is supposed to be a zombie game!

…Wait, are they really NPCs? Why do they feel so real?

A story about a looks-obsessed but unexpectedly capable man who, within the game world, unintentionally corrupts the top 0.1% of the hottest straight alpha males while having the time of his life.

Let’s watch the capable cold top, the beautiful gentle polite top, the irritable homophobic top, the obsessive top, the mad top, the regretful top, and the split-personality top, all go beautifully, hopelessly to ruin together!

This novel was really well-thought out, all of the actions from the beginning that may have been easy to miss impacted the ending. I feel like we didn’t really get enough from the bottoms backstory, since it was only a few paragraphs from different chapters that gave us enough insight on how he dealt with it or even in later chapters how he healed from the rejection of different people, though, I really liked how you could see that while he was in the game, he vented out his frustration... more>> and feelings while playing the game and that’s how he came to be the beta tester. It kind of confused me, his personality in game and his thoughts while playing the game sometimes didn’t match up, but when you think about it more, it is perfectly aligned.

Spoiler

while he was in the game, he was an admired leader, and he found a way to deal with Chase’s claustrophobia while searching for a base, and helping him get over his h*mophobia, of course he thought rationally in situations where somebody must step up, but in situations where feelings conflicted, at first he was ashamed since all of the activity would’ve transferred to the database, but after a while he just didn’t care lol. There are situations where you’d think you’ll know what he’s thinking but nope, he completely surprises you. Lmao.

[collapse]

I like how the author at the end didn’t make the tops hate each other, and instead figured out a way to make them to be more open to the idea of sharing the bottom. The personality of the tops were so straightforward and so well written that you could know who was saying the dialogue with the three of them talking together.

None of them are perfect, they do things just to get more time with the bottom or are too controlling, but at the end they slowly become more easy going towards each other because of the attachment they feel towards the bottom.

Anyways, this story is truly well written and if you want to read something funny with a speck of smut. <<less

The mainstory was great and enjoyable, I could actually visualize how things would be like inside the game. Interactions between MC and the other 3 tops were interesting too. Some of the side characters also made the story more enjoyable. I did skipped a little when getting closed to the finale but I was still curious as to what other fun things the author may add until the ending but I guess author just wanted to end the story with a reasonable reason as to ... more>>

why MC ends with all 3 tops

[collapse]

It was a nice read of bl mix zombie apocalypse plot although it's just a vr game inside the story. Can give it a try if you have the time. Since the story isn't really long too.

Thank you so much uploader for translating this story! ≪3 <<less

This is maybe the most reasonable case for a foursome that I have ever seen. Like, the 3 tops may not be willing to share him, but the bottom has such great emotional connections with all of them that I simply cannot choose. I'm also afraid to choose, because all of these men have become so mentally unstable. They might literally self-exit without him because of how much despair they'd feel in an apocalyptic setting. The description wasn't kidding about all of these top tier men getting bent and going... more>> to ruin. At this rate, they might really ruin themselves if they can't all get together with Cheolsu.
Spoiler

At first, Cheolsu doesn't know that the hot npc characters he's accidentally bending are being played by real, drop-dead gorgeous men. The tops forget about reality after syncing with their characters, so when playing the game, all of them think the apocalypse is real. The only thing that's real, though, is how much they're catching feelings for their fearless leader. Meanwhile, Cheolsu just thinks their growing feelings for him are a bug in the AI that he should probably report to the game company. But he's conflicted, because he's also grown terribly fond of them, & he doesn't want to reset the AI if that means losing the real relationships he's built.

It's also sad to admit (& he knows it), but he's much happier in the game world - a literal zombie apocalypse - than in reality. Fck, his reality sucks. He got ab*sed by his family & then disowned for being gay. He's been barely making ends meet after getting a degree with no support. His first relationship was a dickhead that humiliated him in public & gave him social anxiety at the only gay bar in town. Said dickhead already hooked up with someone else, & yet is still obsessed with Cheolsu & wants a second chance. So his ho*kup got jealous, & OUTED Cheolsu at his company, which got him FIRED because 10 YEARS OF HARD WORK CAN'T WIN AGAINST ONE MINUTE OF h*mophobia, FCK. THIS MAN HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG TO ANY OF YOU, WHY THE FCK CANT YOU LEAVE HIM ALONE.

He's sexually frustrated & thirsty af, but also a very kind, insightful, & charismatic leader. The game honestly brings out his best qualities, and he could clearly shine brightly even in reality with just a little polish. Him being gay or even getting together with all 3 men at the same time isn't such a big deal in the zombie apocalypse. And depending on how things play out, it may not be a big deal in reality either.

Regardless of who he chooses, I'm dying to see the dickhead get some more karma and maybe 3 gorgeous fists to the head. Please. PLEASE.

This is a fun caper with solid pacing for relationship/character development. Appreciated how we could track the growth of the MC's self-esteem. Charmed by the MC's internal monologues simping over how hot the ML's are, bc—-same, babe, same. Totally worth reading if you're into lots of shuraba ft. Handsome men as well as characters that f*ck w/o needing passionate declarations of undying love before doing the deed, lol. (This is 100% a f*ck first fall in love later kind of deal.) ... more>>
Spoiler

There are 2 foursome scenes towards the end-YAYYY!

[collapse]

The fact all the MLs are explicitly identified as white American men makes me feel a teeennsy bit weird given the unflattering comparisons to MC's Korean ex. There are generalizations about Asian men, particularly regarding certain physical characteristics that I kind of had to just read with one eye shut, lol.

BUT!!! I frigging love true harem endings, and this one really hits the spot. Can't recommend it highly enough! Strongly agree with the opinion of the first reviewer AkaneApples about how this offers a sound reason for the MC and MLs to settle into a poly relationship.

Also love that the VR component allowed for (relatively) guilt-free engagement with fun tropes like the MLs blackening and getting all yandere.

I'm satisfied w the ending but wish there were side stories 😭😭😭 <<less

The premise was interesting, and surprisingly well executed. I feel like I was reading a story within a story because there was the real world and then the game simulation. Most of the book took place inside the game simulation, which was essentially Cheolsu's escape from reality. It allowed Cheolsu to be and do whatever he was too afraid to do in real life.

Spoiler

However, unbeknownst to him, the MLs are real people also participating in the game, and one by one, he picks them up along the way. The MLs characters were formatted to be unaware of the real world and had specific personality traits/weaknesses, so their experience within the game and with the beta player would be more authentic.

[collapse]

While in the game, Cheolsu meets three NPCs, a doctor, a farmer, and a soldier, and forms a team with them. Cheolsu becomes their defacto leader and their mission becomes finding a safe place to live while escaping the clutches of zombies and raiders. While together, the MLs quickly became enchanted by Cheolsu's unique personality, and his kindness. Problem is, there were three of them and they each started to want Cheolsu as more than just a friend or teammate. For Cheolsu, who was gay and celibate for 3yrs, this was a dream come true, but because they were NPCs he thought their advances were simply a glitch with the game.

Spoiler

Little did Cheolsu know, his treatment of the MLs in the game actually affected the MLs mental state in real life. Any rejection or kindness he showed to the characters in the game, influenced the real MLs. When the character versions of the MLs became obsessed, as a side effect, their real selves became obsessed with Cheolsu.

[collapse]

Unfortunately, Cheolsu was weak to a pretty face, and it didn't help that the game itself was very realistic, so inevitably, lines began to blur. It became hard for Cheolsu to separate real from fake, so when his time as a beta tester ended, it was bittersweet. However, this wasn't the end because he still had to face the consequences of his actions within the game.

Overall, as a character, I think Cheolsu's growth throughout the book was well done. You can see his confidence grow through his inner thoughts, and through his actions. The game allowed him to experience things he never thought he would and it opened up a new world of kinks for him. When his actions caused the MLs to blacken, instead of being afraid, he was like "more please". In a way, you actually start to feel bad for the MLs because while Cheolsu was having the time of his life in the game, the MLs were legit going crazy. To be fair, Cheolsu had no intention of affecting the MLs to such an extent and even tried to fix it but the more he did, the more the MLs became twisted and obsessed.

The reason I can only give this book four stars is because the book feels incomplete. I wanted to see scenes of the characters being in love and actually dating or living out the rest of their lives together. This book was entertaining, but I feel like this book was more about obsession/smut than romance, if that makes any sense. Also, the latter half of the book did seem to drag, because of miscommunication and the characters' overthinking, which could've been solved if there had been more conversations and less jumping into bed. I actually don't think the MLs would've turned out the way they did if Cheolsu had been more vocal about his feelings. But then we wouldn't have our story sooo...🤷 Still not a bad read though. The smut was well written. There was an actual plot. And FINALLY, a real end game Harem. You're not going to get too many complaints from me with this combo. <<less

the NPC love interests are actually real people

made me enjoy it even more, just because you then get to spend the rest of the novel going "oh this must have been mortifying to remember" after the log-out.

I love how casually obsessed the love interests are with Cheolsu, our poor guy is just trying to play his fav zombie game and be a good beta tester, but, as he said, "hot guys keep glitching out and going for (his) lips"

Its also INCREDIBLY refreshing to see a VR gaming story played completely straight. There's no 'oh nooo we got trapped in the game!' or 'actually it was never a game at all!' reveals, which is vanishingly rare in this genre. On that note, I really enjoy the author exploring the consequences of hyper-realistic VR, which is an oft-neglected topic in these stories.

(for those of you interested in the smut, it is also fairly well written, and Kim Cheolsu is a very entertaining BL protagonist.) <<less

This novel is much more complicated than I thought it was. It honestly felt like reading two different stories at the same time! It got a bit more befuddled at the end bc of the game ML's going completely rouge and the backlash that placed on the real ML's was very surprising but as long as everyone loves each other idc. I feel like this is not for everyone from the way it progressed near the end but I enjoyed this very much. The world building is so solid and... more>> the way the game mechanism works is so cool.

I also agree with other reviewers asking for side stories. I want more to.

Other reviews have more substance I'm just putting out my feelings and thoughts. Anyways give this a try, I think this is really good :D <<less

Excellent premise, and wonderful execution with the first half with the story's development. Each chapter is long that I think it needed to be split into parts for digestible sections for the translator, and the translation quality is fair. For the first half, Cheolsu gets invited to an advance remake of an analog game he loves, having clocked over 3000 hours, he's memorized the map and fine-tuned strategies within the game's parameters. That is to say, he enters the game with the mentality of a hardcore gamer, to the extent... more>> that his first impression unnerves the first teammate he recruits.

The way he's dedicated to clocking in after work, to how permissible he is with the 'NPC's' behavior really resonates with me, and I love how the Player setting and NPC setting creates a fundamental misunderstanding that allows for spontaneous flexibility on behalf of the Player setting. Their friendly relationship feels natural like found family themes~

I do adore the POV shifts that highlight the uncanny nature of Cheolsu. And hey, it's Henry's bread and butter.

As for my reason for specifying a 'first half, ' the 'second half' involves more development in reality. My first impression is that it's return for the reader's distress after a traumatic event in-game.

I do think that the 'second half' in the story's progression is tedious, as the main character has less urgency, still- or if not more influence over the male leads and

The summary doesn't lie and delivers a steamy gay fantasy under an interesting setting~ <<less
