Awakening as an Esper, Haewon falls from a precious young master to a test subject at the Center. Stripped of human dignity and subjected to experiments, he spends years with only his brain extracted. Unable to endure it any longer, Haewon gathers all Espers and Guides to the Center, manipulates their minds, and drives the Espers into a frenzy, resulting in everyone’s death. And then, Haewon regresses—after sensing someone entering the control room just before his death.

But wait, isn’t this a bit too much?

Even after regressing, I’m still that horrific Esper? And… a eunuch, no less?

Traumatized by the events of his past life, Haewon refuses Guiding and lives dependent on Guiding drugs.

One day, through his brother’s introduction, he meets Chae Jinheon, a Guide with a high compatibility rate. Haunted by horrific memories of male Guides, Haewon vehemently rejects the idea, but unable to ignore his brother’s concern, he reluctantly signs a “Pair Contract” for money and comes face-to-face with Chae Jinheon.

But… this guy…

He’s way crazier than I expected.

I truly love both the MC and ml. Both characters have had to face so much, but they are fighting through it and trying to heal, and it's gorgeous to read.

The MC makes me cry. He's been through so much violence and fear. It's his second time around after his first timeline was full of sexual, physical, and mental ab*se. It's brutal to read because of the self-loathing the MC feels and how he is desperately pushing everyone else away just to feel some semblance of control. He's a prickly... more>> cat who lashes out whenever other men come near him--something that's completely fair given all his trauma. He's still kind though. He protects those he can be around and it's nice to read a character who has retained their humanity despite it all.

The ML cracks me up. I like him a lot. He brings a sort of carefree and light heartedness that the MC desperately needs. He's shameless in the sense that he does anything to try to keep the MC alive. However, he is the greenest of flags. He doesn't do anything without the mc's consent. He reassures the MC all the time that nothing s*xual will be done unless the MC initiates and even then they'll do whatever they can to make him feel comfortable. He's a safe space for the MC and it's gorgeous to read because his personality is so good. They're the black cat and golden retriever trope and I am so alive.

Spoiler

The main antagonists can burn in hell. They are both vile ugly creatures who sexually ab*sed the MC constantly--and other espers--without flinching. It made me so incredibly happy when the MC almost killed one of them and didn't get any charges or consequences for it. I can't wait to see how he takes more revenge on them both.

All in all, it's a great novel. It's one about healing and finding the one person who makes you feel safe and happy. <<less

One of the healthiest bls I've seen in a long long time, especially guideverse. The MC is completely traumatized, and justifiably so (r*pe, torture, deshumanization, etc), while the ML helps him heal through it with the amazing power of... Consent ! Consent is something severely lacking in bls, and hardly ever truely touched upon. A lot if the time, the relationships in bls are just barely consensual. Here, it's all the opposite : the author takes a more realistic approach to trauma and healing through it, and insists on the... more>> topic of consent. The MC does not magically get better, but he tries his best, and the ML supports him every step of the way. The way consent is insisted upon is super refreshing, and needs to continue throughout the bl community. It's depressing that this is even considered refreshing when it should be the bare minimum. Hats off to the author in any case. Anyway, I really really recommend this story ! <<less

I really don't agree with how the author portrays this character's trauma. Imagine that you are tortured and r*ped (at a level that is beyond imagination) for many, many years - enough to actually destroy the world to escape - and then go back to the beginning of it all. And then someone you don't trust or like is forced on you by your family with threats. And then that same person attempts to force themself on you in front of your brother upon the first meeting. How would you... more>> feel? Probably not "I'm embarrassed and this is annoying" but rather something more akin to panic, despair, and total shut down.

I am working on pushing through, the trauma is showing more as I read more chapters, and the guide finally seems to understand that he can't be forceful. I will update once I complete. <<less

i think it's so funny how both of them act insane and immediately follow up with "Wow. Thank god I'm the most Normal person here." hate to break it to you fellas but your average joe is not running over someone on sight. Nor are they so driven by their own inability to lose that they lick the foot of someone they barely know. The good news is that towards the mid to end of the novel, they acknowledge that they're freak4freak iktr

haewon and jinheon are a pretty healthy couple... more>> in the sense that they eventually communicate. There's actual exposition about how simply loving someone isn't enough, because you can't have a relationship that isn't built on mutual trust. I enjoyed that :) it drags out a little but I enjoyed the angst ! Jinheon is a great male lead because he actually cares about consent (very rare) and shows his feelings through both his words and actions (ultra rare).

as a side note, I liked that the novel touched upon

how even though haewon regressed and managed to keep himself safe, other people still got hurt because evil people are still going to be Evil. It was nice to me because it felt like the novel had actual things going on outside of the main characters.

the writing is clear and the translation is smooth, if a little funky with the scene jumpcuts. A decent read in a sea of tr*shy novels :) <<less

I really enjoyed reading this novel! The worldbuilding and the pacing was well done. The regression aspect, especially, added so much more depth.

It was heart wrenching reading Haewon (mc) navigate his second life after everything he'd been through, having to relive those moments and remain haunted by them. The years of violence and torture he endured were genuinely horrifying and difficult to read. I'm glad he got a second chance at life

and ultimately got revenge on those that tortured him (!)

MC and ML's relationship didn't feel rushed either. They slowly grew to like and trust in each other while facing hardships and working through their traumas. <<less

Strong plot, decent pacing, and solid world building. Bonus: the love story is well sewn into the book, during which both the MC & ML are led through a necessary character growth arc, that cycles between heart-breaking and humorous. Brace for a hard intro--the MC's first death was epically hard and pretty well redefines the word 'angst'. 4.5
