Setting: Grand Qin (human empire) is weakening. Humanity's archenemy: the demons (crowd_booing. Mp3) are steadily growing more powerful. The only thing keeping the demons from massacring everyone in grand Qin and just generally doing spooky sh*t is the DEMON SUPPRESSION DIVISION (DSD). Unfortunately, the DSD is strapped for manpower because there's a whole lot of sissies out there who are too scared of PAIN and VIOLENCE and MANLINESS to join.

So mankind is f*cked, right? Wrong.

Enter stage left: Shen Changqing, but most people just call him Lord Shen. His affiliation with the DSD makes him respected and feared wherever he goes, so don't expect any of the usual face slapping scenes.

What distinguishes Lord Shen from other MCs is the fact that he is not trying to get stronger for himself, instead he wants to get stronger to protect mankind. This nuances his ruthlessness and makes him less of a selfish, unfeeling git compared to your stock eastern fantasy MC. He has a zero-tolerance policy that may come off as barbaric, but he knows that if even a SINGLE demon escapes, thats a whole city that could be massacred later on.

You may have noticed the horror tag. I was actually surprised by some genuinely creepy moments. Reminded me of Terror Infinity. The occasional creepiness enhances the story by making the demons feel like genuinely threatening and malicious beings.

Side characters have been pretty 2D so far, but that's unsurprising for a web novel. At least they don't practice the time honored tradition of "courting death" by getting in the MC's way so the author can pad out a face slap chapter

All in all, this is a great Chinese fantasy story with the bullsh*t cut out. It knows what you want and how to deliver it. You won't be slapping your forehead when the MC turns into an idiot at the first sign of jade beauties. If you want that, go read MGA or something.

To be honest this is a great novel, Very action packed, Cool fight scenes. At chapter 498 (reading the mtl, which is easily understandable, luckily) The first to bother me even though I've read so far. The fact the Liang and Yue nations made the s*upid decision to invade Qin (I'm sure this is an obvious move for this type of novel) , is absolutely s*upid.

This story feels more like a novel rather than light novel to me. It has good world building. It's not in your face stuff, but carefully unravel as we follow our protagonist journey.

Kudos to the translator for making a great translation. I can read the story well and organic. It's just that I'm dying to wait to read the next chapter. Lol.

pretty good so far with some fun and interesting things going on. I love that there is no CP to cringe over and the MC treats his enemies the same, regardless of gender.

he's a pretty typical Chinese cultivation MC, with an added fanatical loyalty towards the Qin empire and humanity. The MC is ruthless but "righteous;" he'll still kill your family back nine generations but it's for the "right" reason rather than for personal insult.

This novel is very epic. The protagonist constantly fights demons to grow stronger and protect humanity. The weakness of humans and their desperate situation is clearly portrayed.

What is also great that you can't really predict events happening or the world building, yet everything has been planned out and is connected in logical ways. Webnovels are often obvious or are full of plot holes, but here you can understand and connect certain events and information in retroperspective.

I would roughly separate this story into multiple segments:

1 Introduction, with Shen Changqing staying in... more>> the headquarters for some time and starting his cultivation.

2 Shen Changqing's life as a wandering demon slayer, becoming every more powerful and fighting every more powerful enemies.

3 Shen Shangqing is a truly major player and begins to become worthy of the novel's title Terran Guardian, or guardian of the human rise.

4 He leads the human race to a better future.

3 and 4 are written very inprecise to avoid spoilers and also written in a way to incite misunderstandings.
