A ten-year veteran of online web novels, Jiang Si was unlike other readers — he had always firmly believed that he himself could one day walk the great path of cultivation.

Taking the great pioneers of web literature as his examples, he tirelessly sought a method to tread the path of cultivation.

Qigong, gene locks, magic, superpowers, zombie apocalypses… whatever the form of extraordinary power, he believed it must lead to the path of seeking the Dao, and the final destination of all powers is cultivation.

Unfortunately, the world he lived in was painfully ordinary, devoid of any trace of the supernatural.

Just as Jiang Si began to waver in his conviction, his destined truck finally arrived.

The world he transmigrated into looked no different from the one he’d left behind, except for one thing.

Here, extraordinary power truly exists.

And that power comes from… magical girls.

Although it wasn’t what he had envisioned, and the magical girl power system was completely different from anything he had read in web novels, it didn’t matter.

As long as it could help him ascend the path of cultivation, what harm was there in becoming a magical girl himself?

Jiang Si would carve his way through fate and rule for eternity alone — beginning with the path of a magical girl!

Looks like the first arc has just about ended as of c45. A lot of people won't like the MC for his seeming lack of emotions and one-track mind (he's written a bit edgy). He's quite cold to his only family member for rather s*upid reasons that I think will annoy most readers, to the point it makes you cringe, but I still quite enjoyed his character's other quirks to make up for it. It's quite funny how he's forced his Wuxia philosophy onto this magical girl world, even founding... more>> a sect.

I also quite like how its not just a singular super powerful evil organization vs. the magical girl borough, thats the common trope in ~95% of these novels. Having different factions of power keeps it interesting.

The novel has its dark moments, its not just comedy - its a fair balance. There is subversion between rival factions, spies, m*rder... Nothing is excessively graphic thankfully, the violence is akin to your typical anime fights. The moments between friends typical of magical girl novels, the chapter following a date scene, etc balance it out. <<less

(edit: I would recommend reading both my and the dude above me's (Felo) reviews, I think they roughly balance out and explain the story well with minimal spoilers)

(edit: forgot to mention, the characters are likable and feel real, at least to me)

It's a good story overall. The characters are interesting, it's fun to see the main character deepen their understanding of the different powers, the orginizations are somewhat interesting, etc. Now here's the more interesting part, first of all, the protagonist feels kind of like a... more>> very confident chuunibyou who luckily gained power and therefore believes himself correct, not in a particularly bad way, it's not like he ignores everyone else or anything. But with his personality being cold and singleminded towards his goals, he tends to not care to do anything about the feelings of those close to him, or at least in regards to his family, whether for good or for worse. If you ever thought, "why doesn't this protagonist just ignore the feelings of everyone else and just focus on training", this novel holds part of that, and you get to see the consequences of that unfold. In this novel you can properly feel the despair unfolding, just not from the main character (at least not yet as far as I am aware), after all, it is a magical girl novel. Finally, you know those stories, where someone gets reincarnated or transferred into a game or story they know, and save a bunch of characters using their knowledge of them and their feelings, but the story feels a bit off, because it feels like the world that they got tranferred to is completed by them, and that the world was missing their presence in the first place, almost like someone got wiped from existence before the main character came along (okay maybe not quite that last part, but you get the idea). Well, this story feels like the world before the reincarnator/transferee gets there. There are a few things that would line up pretty well if some outsider with knowledge of them and good intentions acted before the bad things happened. So if you feel like going to another world, and are confident in making it better, this is the novel for you. <<less

I think the best way to describe this series is as an OP main character series similar to one punch man and eminence of the shadow. The main plot or storyline doesn't revolve around our main character but rather from various side characters and their reactions to the protagonist himself. However, where the series falls short is in characterization.

The main character is introduced as a very-goal oriented chuunibyou. All his actions are only for the sake of achieving his goals and everything irrelevant is discarded. This is not necessarily a... more>> bad thing as there are plenty of excellent novels with gray or even villainous main characters because of this goal-oriented character, he doesn't form any attachments to anything or anyone unless they can be used. This isn't a bad thing as there are plenty of excellently written characters that are morally gray or outright evil. Its just that our main character himself feels very flat. The only things that define him is his main desire and his insurmountable strenght. In a very ironic way, despite our main character admiring cultivation/progression novel main characters, he's personality-wise the furthest thing from some that he mentions.

Overall, its a decent novel, but it lacks the little bit of spice that makes good story immersive. Hence why the 3/5. Moderate. Neither bad or great, just decent. <<less
