Wondering why the rating is so low?

I'll give you a clue: it has nothing to do with the translation.

Though sometimes the translation lowers the rating, this time isn't the case. I admit that it isn't the best but at least is readable, with uniform sentences and coherent.

... more>> The problem has to do with the story in itself, at least in my humble point of view.

Although interesting and thrilling at first glance given the summary and tags... truth is the story is quite dull.

A mother and stepfather that are absent, a negligent guardian (and awful person in my opinion), a scheming aunt and a confidant friend form the first circle of relationships around the main character. However, their interactions are few and in between a exception of ML and FL.

which later we learn it's a result of being drugged by the aunt

she dresses up disguised as a boy and goes home to later attend school.

Ignoring the fact that Feng Xiaohan, a strict and stern man, would not sleep with any random woman just because she throws herself at his arms; the reason why Xia Mi chooses him as her partner, and no any other man or resist the influence of the drug, isn't justified anywhere.

After a case of bullying at school, we get to learn how Feng Xiaohan is disgusted with this "brother" just because "he" is timid, cowardly and looks like a girl.
And this fact is reiterated again and again in every interaction they share. This goes to say that gender roles are rather marked in this novel, though our main character herself breaks the mold in every way.

Until this point, I can tolerate.
Different people have different points of view and I can understand that he doesn't like what he doesn't like as far as it doesn't harm any other person. However, what follows is unacceptable.

That overbearing and pushy attitude, without a care of the other's privacy (particularly by opening someone's door without knocking or touching someone's bu*t without permission and pushing for showering together just because they are "men"), will, and even forcing that person to change just because you don't like it; makes this story disappointing.

Worst is, our main character obeys and does what he orders and even then our male lead isn't satisfied.

As to why our main character hides her gender, it's a mystery still, but if I have to keep seeing that eyesore of a male lead I guess I don't care.

Anyway, it's now removed from my reading list. <<less
