TL;DR - A 4/5 premise that suffers greatly from it's characters, especially the main character.

I'm going to talk about the reasons for his divorces and the current dynamic between him and his ex-wives up to chapter 37, so just a warning.

My actual score is closer to a 2.5 than a 3 so far, but I can't put half a star. The description didn't hook me, but the first couple of chapters had my interest. Then I felt my self getting more annoyed as I followed the MC. My biggest specific... more>> issue with him is in the most recent chapters ~30-37 or so. Because it was so recent, there isn't enough clarification on why he acted how he did or any deeper reflection on it by him yet.

Reasons for divorce for each of his wives (from MC's perspective) :

Spoiler

1st Wife: They found out he was infertile after getting married and her family was upset and kept pressuring them for divorce. MC gives in and mentions divorce to his wife first after she asks if they can still be happy without kids. She kept asking him to rethink it, but he said he knew what the right choice was.

2nd Wife: He dated and married her without mentioning that he couldn't have kids. She somehow found out and not through him telling her. She was upset and wanted a divorce for him lying to her and leading her on as she talked about their future kids names and looked around the kids section in stores.

3rd Wife: He met her while laying low after his second divorce and they connected while talking about their pasts and issues. She wanted to marry him even after finding out he couldn't have kids. Fast forward to their marriage and he calls out for his ex-wives in his sleep and she found their accounts in his social media search history, so she wants a divorce because he's clearly still hung up on his ex-wives.

[collapse]

Here is my biggest issue with the MC before the current chapters: He feels slimy to me. He wronged all of his ex-wives in his first life in some way and at the beginning of his regression, he's immediately wondering which of them he should marry this time. This by itself is just the plot of typical "second chance relationship" stories, but the real bad part is when he finds out one of them remembers their past lives.

His 2nd wife confessed to him the second time they met in this life and he didn't really address it besides saying, "If I can't accept your feelings. What will you do?", and has been hanging out with her and going on dates. Then he rejects her around chapter 30 because he found out she remembered their past lives.

He was friendly and interacting well with her, but as soon as he knows she remember the past, he starts talking about how much he suffered because she left him. Just to reiterate, their marriage failed because he decided to marry her while hiding the fact that she could never have children with him and in the end he wasn't even the one she found it out from. He really gives off the vibes of being an opportunist who is just looking for a fresh start with someone he loved, but only if they don't remember the bad parts of him. She even apologizes, asks to start over together, and accepted that he's infertile, even though he isn't in this life but she doesn't know that. He says that they could have been happy together if only one of them remembered the past, which makes it seem like he thinks they both wronged each other somehow.

The worst part is the wife he wronged the most recently, the 3rd wife, is openly hostile with him when they first meet again. But he keeps approaching her even though his two other ex-wives are falling over themselves to be close to him and do him favors. Her perspective said she felt furious and sick when she first saw him again. He's really trying to take advantage of their lack of memories (he thinks) to get second chances with women he hurt.

Second chance romance stories are at their best when the MC has a single love interest to focus on or no specific one and girls chase him because he improved himself because of his regression and he has to make a choice, but here he has three women he talks about being unable to rank because they have such different charms and kind of just assumes he can pick one to marry. One of them straight up confessed and that could have been his answer, but he left it somewhat ambiguous until he found out she remembers his mistakes from their first life and rejected her.

Non-Romance Stuff:

He's a bundle of my least favorite regression tropes: Wants to hide his power now for some reason, refuses to realize other characters regressed even though they act completely out of character from the first day he regressed, feels like he's acting the age he regressed to but with a power boost.

The biggest one I want to talk about is noticing other people regressing. All of his ex-wives know his name on their first meeting and two of them are actively and aggressively hitting on him which is completely different from his first life and he even comments on it. He has suspicions of it once or twice but then, in all of his wisdom, decides that he must be on an alternate timeline where this is just how they act. Then once he finds out one ex-wife regressed, he asks the other two a single question to test them and immediately decides they must not have regressed and he even hopes that they didn't which leads me back to calling him slimy. One of his actual tests:

Him: "What's my mom's favorite food?"

Her: "That's..."

Pause for her to catch herself from answering correctly.

Her: "How would I know? Hehe."

Him: If she had returned, there was no way she wouldn't know the answer to my question.

He's hiding the fact that he regressed and in her head, she literally said she would look like a stalker if she answered right, which is true if he hadn't regressed, and just lied. He can't seem to imagine that anyone would hide the fact the they regressed even though he's doing just that and the ex-wife he already found out about wasn't exactly upfront about it either. The ex-wives have already figured out each of them have regressed based off of one or two interactions but he can't piece it together when a girl who never ate street food until they dated as adults asks him to treat her to the first street food he introduced to her. And the same girl who was famous for not being interested in men until they dated as adults, confessed to him on the second day since they met after seeking him out.

Overall, it's a good premise that just leads to a frustrated reader if you actually think about how the main character is acting. He's dense, selfish, and a little slimy (or at least self-centered) with how he's interacting with his ex-wives so far. Hopefully the author focuses more on why he specifically cut off the romantic potential with the ex-wife who he knows remembers and hopefully it makes him seems less slimy or self-centered. <<less
