Despite being a Count’s daughter, Risha always had dark circles under her eyes.

In addition, her skin and hair were ragged, and she was skinny. The dress she wore didn’t match her figure at all.

In comparison, the daughter of the woman who became the Count’s second wife had a lovely, beautiful face, even though one of her parents was a commoner. Unable to tell which of them had legitimate noble blood, Risha was ridiculed in social circles.

Then one day, someone proposed to Risha.

He was the Duke of Lindbeld, an exceptionally handsome, straight-laced man.

The Duke didn’t want to marry, but got annoyed by the people around him who kept nagging him to do so. Moreover, he was tired of the lady who kept hounding him. He was looking for a young lady who would be willing to be his nominal wife, who would not interfere in his work or in his personal life.

So Risha, who has no interest in the Duke of Lindbeld whatsoever, was selected.

Risha put forward one condition for the marriage.

She said that she would marry him if he provided her with three meals, a nap, and a minimum standard of living.

In fact, Risha was always busy and sleep-deprived as a result of her father and step-mother’s work.

She’d be free from this busyness! How wonderful! She married with tears in her eyes!

The story is kind of charming and fun, but the farther I read, the more I dislike the Duke. I feel like he's not properly keeping his promise of three meals and a nap. Even worse, the more I read, the more I think that he never intended to do so and was just trapping the MC from the very start. I really dislike that. I really dislike the way he's pressuring the MC to do more Duchess duties and/or sleep with him (technically a duty in that setting I... more>> guess?) in order to receive better treatment. <<less

If you hadn't guessed it's a Cinderella story with a few twists. So far the opening is solid. The translation is very good, and the writing flows well. The author does a good job of hooking you in, with Risha's plight and rapidly generates hate for her family 👍 The author also has an interesting way of breaking things up. He has a full 8 chapter prologue that wraps back to the opening which nicely distracts from some of the problems.

Downsides

First the story is exposition heavy. It's not badly done... more>> though, and has a fair amount of show to offset the tell. It also doesn't hurt that it's charmingly done. Hopefully past the prologue volume this lets up. Second there's not much character development so far. Once again if the exposition lessens this should improve <<less

I could not stand the male lead. Honestly it was difficult to focus on any of the good in this story because of my hatred for that guy. I groaned whenever he showed up in the story. Our protagonist deserves so much better and she would be better off just locking herself in her room and refusing to let anyone in. Everyone but the male lead’s secretary is against her: even the butler who is aware of what kind of life she led before her marriage. It’s just an all... more>> round cruel situation for our poor female lead. I couldn’t read anymore and dropped it because of that a**hole of a love interest.

Our female lead, however, is fantastic and she should be put into a better story. Someone save her.

Translation is fantastic so kudos to the translation team for their work! Shame all that effort is going into this but the effort is appreciated all the same. <<less

I really liked the premise and then once I started getting into it I really started to hate it and get angry and frustrated every time I come to read a new chapter. I feel legitimately bad for the MC and I really hate the ML. MC is describe as having worked herself to the bone and just wanting to get away to an easy life but the ML just uses her to a very depressing point. A ss implied that the Duke may actually have feeling for her but... more>> the story doesn't show it an any respect. I would honestly expect this kind of story in something like "I will Disappear, Grand Duke" where the MC is trying to get away from the Duke not live with them. The Duke twists their contract to fit his needs and even when she brings in someone useful from the outside to help they use their knowledge of previously working with her to twist it even more. I'm sure it'll get better eventually but I'm so mad reading it I can't keep goin at this point. <<less

I can seriously understand why people dropped this when they did. The duke is freaking insufferable at this point in the story. There's also a bit of a plot hole here as well. Somehow, apparently, "duty is different from work". No it's not, it's still work. Instead of anyone agreeing with her, she's basically gaslighted into it. I've read a couple of reviews that say you should stick through it for the plot twist. But I'm having a rough time here.

I just can't like the ML. He hasn't even been... more>> in the story very much and I want to punch him in the face. Everything he asked of her as a wife was essentially a lie. It was a complete and utter swindle. I really don't think you have a way around that, you can't twist it any other way. He knew what she was wanting, she made it pretty clear and it would take a blind person to not see she was overworked. He played off of that and presented what he wanted in a wife that fit perfectly with what she was begging for, rest. That's all she wants, rest.

So what does he do? Gives her gruel for 3 meals a day, provides no maids for her and basically neglects her. She has to go out and pretend to be a maid just to eat. She doesn't want to confront any of this shit, she was honestly just thinking "f*ck it, this life is enjoyable enough". A bit of work a day and then she can rest again. But why did he throw her into the anex and left her alone for a month? Because he wanted her to get mistreated to the point that she'd take over and straighten everything out. Removing all of his problems for him, so that he didn't need to get involved. Instead, he found nothing changed and her dressed as a maid. This ticks him off and in a round 'bout way, forces her to do the work instead. This isn't what they agreed to and when she requested for at least her food to be changed, she was told to start working as a duchess and she can eat at least like a commoner.

He is completely insufferable. I'm going to try and stick through it, but if a story doesn't usually capture me by this point I drop it. At this point, I want to beat her husband over the head with a brick. I'm not even mad at anyone else in the entire story so far. Sure, her parents are annoying idiots, her half sister a twit and the head maid/daughter duo ass hats. But I don't outright want to beat them. Her husband? I'd like to throw him over a cliff.

Whelp, the twist finally happened. Where suddenly, everything that he's done is for her benefit and everything was just a misunderstanding. No, he still twisted, lied and swindled her. It doesn't matter the intention, he wasn't up front with her from the beginning and basically tricked her into the marriage. Then he continued to mistreat her over and over again, it doesn't matter if it was misunderstood or not. He never bothered to explain himself. What was more infuriating is everyone else around her seemed to sympathize with the duke and how she doesn't notice "his feelings". I feel like she's the only sane person in a mad house basically and now I'm being brainwashed into believing everything is for her sake. I still dislike the duke and now I'm grudging against him. I do not like how the author just tried to wash his hands of the everything that just happened. <<less

I feel bad for the people who stopped reading this for the ML when they were several chapters away from getting to the Plot Twist. Although to be honest I understand, the abuse of the ML to the MC is quite annoying at first, but as we went through the chapters I realized something important. Blame it completely and totally on the MC... don't get me wrong the ML is a jerk at first, but the MC speaks in his mind 90% of the time. He only has a couple... more>> of lines of dialogue per chapter. This is why their interactions are so bad 95% of the time. <<less
