I love this novel, the heroine makes me laugh and smile. I've been going back and re-reading all my favorite parts, (which is rare for me). I love it, and I deem it worthy of being translated.

Besides toying with mens hearts, shes a pretty good person, well neither black nor white, in that gray area. She is not 100% white lotus, thank god. A character who likes to be the center of attention, kind on the outside, cold-hearted on the inside. She's confident, smart, outgoing. She makes weakness her... more>> strength. I like how she takes her white lotus persona seriously, she puts a lot of thought into it. Also she's not the type to hurt herself to get a man's attention, or fully rely on a man. She isn't gonna be unreasonable when shes stuck in a bad situation, she uses her brain. She has a special ability, she can curse people. And although shes not a fighter, she never lets herself suffer. This story is about her going on an adventure, cultivating (not heavy on cultivation), cursing others, becoming the white moonlight in mens hearts, and the guy who pursues her relentlessly-Li Huaide and his struggles. He also has a special ability,
Spoiler

he can be reborn every time he's killed to pursue her.

[collapse]

Its amusing reading about his efforts to pursue her. It sounds tragic (for Li Huaide) but its written in a such a lighthearted and faintly humorous manner. Its a great story, I like it very much! And you don't find the face-slapping that is usually so rife in these cultivation novels. After reading this its been hard to read other stories cuz the heroines are so bland compared to this chick. She just feels so lively to me, she walks right off the pages. Its been a real struggle reading other things now. Honestly, I could go on and on about how much I love this story, but I'll stop here.

The ending was really abrupt, which is really sad. I love this novel. I feel like it had sooo much potential. But I'm glad with her choice in the end.
Spoiler

She didn't end up with Li Huaide.

I honestly cannot believe this has a 3 stars
Maybe it's because of the chuuni description/summary?

I think it's a very good novel with a so-called *evil* female lead, I really just think she's cute. Her favorite curse is quite harmless- the curse of making someone sneeze like 10 times. She does use it in just the right times though.

-Read ahead and changed my mind, this novel went from 4 stars to 5 stars! The MC does not discriminate on who she offs and I really like that. Unlike cold... more>> MCs who spare their fans and people who are in love with them, this MC does not care. Sometimes she's like a devil with a marionette.

Spoiler

She even killed Li Huiade who I thought was the male lead... hahahaha...
And then he came back (rebirth) wanting to marry her not knwing she was the one who killed him. That's so funny lol

Storytelling

Yu Qing Yao transmigrates into the body of a young girl who killed herself after her marriage was canceled. A familiar plot for anyone who has read a few stories on novelupdates. But before her transmigration Yu Qing Yao was not an assassin or a doctor or genius cultivator. She was a so-called "Green Tea b*tch", a woman who pretends to be sweet and innocent while actually being blackhearted and manipulative. An interesting premise that the story, at least so far, doesn't really deliver on.

You see, Yu Qing Yao... more>> doesn't actually have to rely on her duplicitous nature to get by. Shortly after her transmigration she receives a "system" that allows her to curse people. And this ability to curse people completely shapes the way the story is told and plays out.

Yu Qing Yao's curses can range from small things like causing someone to trip and fall to deadly things like boiling their brain with a fever. The range on her curses is very large, spanning entire geographical regions and can't be detected by other cultivators. But not only does her curses allow her to deal with her enemies with no repercussions but she is also rewarded for doing so. For every curse she performs she recieves points that she can use to improve her skills and cultivation.

This creates a situation in which as long as Yu Qing Yao constantly curses people she can pretty much achieve all her goals effortlessly. Because she can curse she cultivates effortlessly. Because she is beautiful, she seduces effortlessly. Because improving her power and gaining followers is effortless, she can deal with all her problems effortlessly.

Because Yu Qing Yao's systems incentivizes her to constantly curse, large parts of the story are about her cursing people. Many chapters are dedicated to people falling prey to Yu Qing Yao's curses. In fact, the story seems to alternate between sections about Yu Qing Yao's progress in her sect and sections about people getting devastated by Yu Qing Yao's curses.

Some of these curse chapters are aggravating because she is cursing individuals who are far away from her, has never wronged her or anyone she knows, and whom she will never interact with in person. She will learn about such a character, curse them, and then the character will immediately be thrown away without having had any impact on the story whatsoever other than giving Yu Qing Yao an additional curse point.

Characterization

There is really only one character that stands out here and that is the protagonist, Yu Qing Qao. In her introduction, the author immediately tells us that she is like a ruthless demon. Whether she treats you well or torments you to tears depends entirely on her mood. If you keep reading, you may come to see that she most of the time she isn't presented as even half as villainous as some of the noble protagonists of other transmigration novels. But keep the author's warning in mind.

Yu Qing Qao constantly performs curses and that means she constantly needs new targets for her curses. When choosing a target she tries to choose bad people. Not for any moral reason but for the rather practical reason of: If you curse all the good guys then who will be left to deal with the bad guys?

So Yu Qing Qao curses bad people. And, as is often the case in Chinese web novels, once a character is labeled as bad then anything goes in tormenting them. In this case, this means that Yu Qing Qao has no hesitation in causing extreme torment to others, whether that means driving someone insane or causing someone to be r*ped.

Yu Qing Qao feels neither righteousness nor guilt over her actions. The author seems to want us to think that she is a bit of a sad*st who enjoys tormenting others but she actually comes off more as someone who just doesn't care. She hurts people and doesn't care because she benefited from hurting them.

In a way, that is refreshing. Many protagonists in similar stories seem to think they are justified in mu*dering every man, maid, woman, and child that slightly obstructs them. In contrast, Yu Qing Qao doesn't bother to justify her actions. She is just a malevolent spirit without any remorse.

Translation

The translation is by EndlessDream7 and proclaims to be a machine translation on every page. But if it is a machine translation then it is a heavily edited one. Most of the time it is better than a lot of human translations. Occasionally there are grammatical mistakes and at least once there was a paragraph written in the wrong tense.

The website hosting the translation is sort of irritating. It is split vertically so that the left half the screen shows an enormous banner and the right half shows the actually translation. Because it is hosted on tumblr, the "previous" and "next" buttons don't actually take you to the previous or next chapter but different posts that might be unrelated or even be from a different story altogether. <<less

Maybe it is just due to my preferences for black lotus characters, but I really do not understand the low ratings for this novel. The plot is detailed and extravagant yet still clearly understandable. The female lead is cunning yet not ruthless, able to think cleverly. I enjoy how she’s powerful, and her over-poweredness is lot less overwhelmingly idiotic than some other dog blood quick-trans novels I’ve read. Although she is not the strongest ever, she still has the facilities to defend herself and carry out plans independently. I really... more>> suggest you give this a try! I loved every bit and for sure will be waiting for updates! It was hilarious at times and had me snickering aloud! <<less

I admit this novel is very innovative. I have yet to see another novel like it. 3.3 as of chapter 46. As long as the novel develops fine, 4 is a deserving score.

MC Character:

Spoiler

It has already been described of what the MC’s character is like. She is a black lotus. On the outside, she appears to be harmless like a white lotus, but her true nature is very mischievous and black. Throughout the recent chapters, you see her use her curse powers to prank her enemies, or anyone she dislikes. She goes by the simple motto of “do no harm to me/anyone/everyone, and I do no harm to you”. I guess she has no other depth other than that. I don’t see her have any other preference for anything only occasionally showing interest in this and that (charms, more cursing, daoist skills). There is no schemes (at least heavy schemes) to showcase her smartness or anything. At most, it just proves her acting ability to be white lotus.

[collapse]

Plot development:

Spoiler

It goes at a relaxed pace, mainly because of our MC. MC has no high ambitions to fulfill so of course her actions will do so too. There’s a lot happening around her (sect war basically) but she only gives a couple glances here and there to curse a few more. There’s the ever so happening plot of men falling for her, and the master plotting to kill her. But that’s it so far. The most in-depth plot described so far is her cursing everyone... There is no romance as of yet to write of. At best, it is just the ML (at least I think it is) being obsessed. And the MC just not feeling the need of a man for anything. (Yeah, for benefits like protection and pills and spells and stuff. But she doesn’t leach off them)

[collapse]

No-No:

The only no I have right now is the amount of cursing she does. Everyone she curses has done something bad, so I have no issues there, but the frequency is just a little high. I understand that’s how she upgrades her skills but I don’t want to skip 4 chapters or so just so I don’t hear how she curses. And it gets boring after you hear it multiple times. Yes, it is quite new with the high fevers and tripping and falling and pooping, but you’ll eventually fill sick of it. It’s used repeatedly that I just recommend you to skip it. You probably don’t even need to remember it later on anyways. It takes away from the story too. Sometimes you are reading the most recent chapter just to roll on with the plot.
Spoiler

Does she make another guy fall in love? Does she get another level? Does she beat up some people using her skills and not her curse? Does she gain more skills?

[collapse]
Just something other than cursing please. But that’s the only thing I completely hate.

OVERALL

This story is pretty interesting. The score is actually closer to a 3.3, but I’m sure as I continue to read, it’ll be a 4. It’s a pretty relaxing read and funny sometimes too. There isn’t a whole lot of scheming going around, and the romance is slow as of now. (There’s really no signs of reciprocated feelings; obsession at most) So read, if you wish. Don’t let low ratings fool you. It is a diamond in the roque. <<less

Very good read - female protagonist with minimal no romance, if you can call it that, and a lot of adventures. Another plus is the protagonist's musings on human nature, the way men and women react to one another and her strategizing on the best survival tools she has at her disposal.

It's too easy for her. She doesn't work super hard. She has a huge cheat- besides her modern knowledge. She's beautiful, she can seduce any man she wants... To be honest, it gets a little boring at times.

The generalization that "men can all be seduced the same way" bothers me a tad bit.

I like that she isn't implicitly good or evil. Although, personally, I think she's a bit more evil, but that's just because I disagree with some things. She has her own set of morals, own taste in men,... more>> likes pretty things (which I think is nice for her white lotus to have, it's natural).

The author is good at being neutral between characters/existences, where it doesn't feel like anythings being painted in a certain light. Things just are how they are. I find it super impressive and rare.

For example, the author said something like, "It's normal for white lotuses to be the enemy of other women."... Or a better example:
Spoiler

The demon wolf stole money so he could live like a human. However, he was sus, ppl found out, and he eventually was on the list of dangerous demons to kill. He also happened to be Yu Qing Yao's next curse target.

[collapse]

Like, that's lowkey kinda tragic, but the author just stated it as is. Btw that's not a excerpt. It's summarized from what I remember.

The way she utilizes her curses are clever. Not going into details. Thought processes and conversations are well-developed and considered. Not going into details.

I recommend you try it. If u don't like it soon into reading, you probably won't get into it at all because there wasn't a rough start (for me). <<less
