Qin Ran’s muse died, and so did his art. Running out of inspiration, he accidentally stumbled into a mysterious mountain village after a car accident, where he met a blindfolded beauty with a face as cold as ice, and was captivated by him at first sight.

In order to get a new source of inspiration, Qin Ran relentlessly pursued the beauty using every means possible, but the beauty rejected him coldly.

Later, they got married in the village. Qin Ran grew bolder and tried to use himself as bait to trick him into going back to the city with him, only to discover that the beauty he shared the bed with was not a human being at all. He wanted to escape, but it was already too late—

“Ranran, didn’t you want to draw me?”

“Ranran, didn’t you say you wouldn’t abandon me?”

“Ranran… you should call me husband.”

“…I want to devour you whole, both skin and bones.”

I ended up really enjoying this one, even though I went in with low expectations because of some of the reviews. First off, yes, it's horror-themed, especially in the first few chapters. The author did a great job creating this eerie, gloomy atmosphere. I was fully expecting it to be gruesome and gory, and while there are a few moments like that, it's not the main focus. It does sometimes get a bit creepy since the ML is basically this overpowered Corpse God who lives up in the mountains and... more>> is known for being a merciless killer.

The MC stumbles upon him, and through a series of circumstances, they end up entangled. MC starts pursuing ML purely because of how ridiculously good-looking he is and wants to use him as his "muse" for his paintings, without having a clue about the ML's true nature.

I actually really liked how their romance developed. The first 30 chapters, You'll slowly see ML falling for MC to the point where he can't imagine a future without him. And that's when things start getting questionable. If you're not into extreme Yanderes or can't stomach noncon themes, this definitely won't be your thing. But personally? I love it when MLs are walking red flags and would set the world on fire for the person they love and this story delivers exactly that. The possessiveness, the obsession, the jealousy over everyone else, I ate it up. ALSO HOW THE ML BECOMES THIS CLINGY AND NEEDY WHEN IT COMES TO MC. I LOVED IT.

That said, I get the concerns. MC is terrified at times and it's very much a forced relationship in the beginning. But IMO, it does get better. HE IS NOT TERRIFIED THE WHOLE STORY. It does eventually turn consensual. ML is completely smitten and starts doing things he normally wouldn't, just for MC's sake. If it weren't for the noncon elements, I'd recommend this freely, but since that's a big factor here, it's definitely not for everyone.

Also, huge props to the translator for offering both censored and uncensored versions, seriously appreciated.

In the end, I'm giving it a 5, mostly because the current rating is way too low for what this story actually offers. It's flawed, yes, but it hit the exact kind of twisted romance niche I enjoy. <<less

It was enjoyable, but also sometimes uncomfortable.

The plot :

A beautiful painter is kidnapped into a strange mountain village and encounters his new muse, who is very strange and handsome. It's quite captivating at first and focuses mostly on the romance. I really liked how the ML focused on the MC once he fell for him, because I enjoy possessive characters. The romance was also quite progressive, which I appreciated but there were also some things I personally didn't like.

What I didn't like :

  • The MC's personality was honestly a bit devious at times. Whether with his ex-lover or with the ML, he seduced them so he can paint them, only to deny their feelings and push them away afterward, which I disliked. He also isn't particularly smart, seriously, how did he ever think the ML was an ordinary human ? He was still understandable in some moments, but he's not really my favorite type of MC.
  • The noncon, which really weren't necessary since the MC was already attracted to the ML. I don't think I need to explain why noncon isn't necessary.
  • The jealousy trope, which was present throughout the entire book, from the beginning to end, was also very annoying to me. Whether it was the MC's ex-lover who is obsessed with him or the ML's past lover he can't forget, both of these elements bothered me. They made it hard for me to appreciate the revelation at the end
    Spoiler

The revelation that the MC has the soul of the ML's ex-lover also didn't work very well for me. The past life arc was interesting, but it was way too long, around 30 chapters, and it felt detached from our MC from the modern world. Because of that, the MC from the ancient timeline ended up seeming more important to the ML than the one we had been following for 70 chapters.

    [collapse]
. It felt poorly handled, and I would have preferred less jealousy and more development of the modern romance between the two leads.

    Conclusion :

It was fine. Both characters are interesting, but the story isn't particularly complex or beautiful. I still enjoyed reading it.

I absolutely adored this story and the MC and ML. The start of their relationship was rocky but everything had its reasons, the past plays a big role tag sure is important - the story explains everything neatly and even small details have significance.

In some ways this novel feels like a novel of two parts, the present and the past, but both parts were equally enjoyable. The novel definitely starts off with a very strong horror emphasis, which I enjoyed, this does taper off a little bit but there is... more>> still a lot of disturbing imagery throughout. The world building was also very satisfying.

The ML was my favourite kind of male yandere, consumed and driven by love. I can see why TGCF has been recommended as a similar novel, it does share some important characteristics that I won't spoil.

I both laughed and cried reading this book. Do pay attention to the tags but this is certainly a novel worth reading. Loved it! Finally also, kudos to the translator, the translation was excellent and beautifully done - thank you! <<less

Just finished it and I would honestly rate it 4 but since I've already rated 5 stars, so whatever. Anyway, it was pretty good but it's something like a one time read for me. The MC was very terrified of the ML after he found out that he wasn't a human beings, I think this was bcuz he was the legendary corpse god which he thinks feed on human and he was afraid that he might eat him one day too. Sometimes, I do find it a bit unbearable as... more>> well cuz like bro he's hella horrified, stop scaring him but anw, after reading everything I kinda understand.

Spoiler

ML wasn't like this before he became what he is. Tho he was cold but he was not horrifying, thus I think it had something to do with the fact that he took the dark path. They both were in love in their past lives and it was indeed the MC who provoked ML first, therefore it was understandable as to where ml's obsessions came from. There's r*pe and the MC himself said so but only temporary cuz MC then recalled their past memories and no longer afraid of him and even enjoy it xD

[collapse]

Spoiler

I hate the ml's mother so much :3 like the hell is sis's problem? I was shocked when I found out what she did to MC in his last life and even more shocked when I found out that she actually wanna k*ll her very own son (the ml) for her own benefit without feeling anything

[collapse]

Anw, it was a fine read. Kinda enjoyable for me though I have quite a few doubts about the story but I don't remember having all my doubts answered by the end of the chapter. If you like something horror or scary (maybe?) try this one <<less

but the story's plot around the main couple, in my opinion, was lacking. It felt very anti climatic at the end, the way it ended.

I definitely think, it is a good quick one time read. The author did a great job trying to tie up the ends together and it does come together quite well.

It gave off very TGCF vibes to me but all in all, the side characters didn't seem very developed- I didn't get a chance to connect with them.

The romance between the main couple only feels like one once you figure out the plot. Before that, fair warning, it is literally a

The r*pe scenes were not needed at all, in my opinion. The story could have done without them. It is disappointing to see authors justifying such scenes in the name of *love*

Anyways, brace yourself for a rotten, heartbreaking storyline which turns into a happy ending, to say the least- from the perspective of the MC. <<less

There's too much non consensual activity for me to like this book. Also horrifying scary and the MC is scared too, which makes it hard to see the romance lol.

I like a horror romance where the MC is unphased or is also scary. Having the ML literally terrify the MC doesn't make it very romantic.

This is a realistic horror romance, so read if you're into that.

I loved it! It pulled at my heartstrings. I didn't mind the noncons because of the genre. I really love the ML. He's the type of ML I like in a story. MC is so funny, and so kind too.

It has more of a horror plot with romance. Itz a bit dub con at the starting so be cautious. But I liked the story, it was very engaging. But if you would go for a well developed character development of the side characters then it's not much but for the main leads it was sufficient.

Solid 4 stars, if you love anything horror, yandere ML and with some little angst mixed in this is the sht. The illustrations of this novel are also so good! I'm way more drawn to the aesthetics of this novel, but it remains a 4 for me since I do feel like there are some parts that if improved would definitely even elevate the story and my rating. But its not an over all bad read, I thoroughly enjoyed it, not for everyone since there are some non con as... more>> everyone says. But it does progress to being consensual as the leads go through all the sht together. <<less
