Shen Yunxuan always starts each life with a bad hand, slowly working her way up to become a winner in life. But this time, upon restarting, she discovers that people keep fighting to take her bad hand, even trading their good ones with her.

Shen Yunxuan (confused, but respectful): “Is there really such a good thing?”

[World 1: Socialite Sisters]

Shen Yunxuan isn’t as sweet-talking as her sister Shen Yunrui and doesn’t win over the elders. During their marriages, Shen Yunrui married into the wealthiest family, enjoying a grand ceremony, while Shen Yunxuan married her grandfather’s savior-a poor young man.

Twenty years later, Shen Yunxuan and her husband became billionaires, while Shen Yunrui’s husband was left in a vegetative state, and the once-glorious family fell apart.

After her rebirth, Shen Yunxuan finds herself before their weddings, and Shen Yunrui suddenly insists on marrying the savior while urging Shen Yunxuan to marry into the wealthiest family. Moved, their family wholeheartedly supports the swap.

Shen Yunxuan (overjoyed): “When my future husband faints, I can skip fifty years of struggle by taking over his empire!”

(Note: World 1 is short and comedic. Feel free to skip to other, more conventional stories if this one isn’t to your taste.)

[World 2: Stand-in Actress & the Villain]

Shen Yunxuan and Qian Yue graduate from film school and audition together. Qian Yue secures a major role as a scheming villain in a popular IP drama, while Shen Yunxuan lands a stand-in role in a niche art film.

To everyone’s surprise, the blockbuster IP flops, while Shen Yunxuan’s art film becomes a box-office hit. The director and lead actors take notice of her talent, offering her three consecutive roles, skyrocketing her career to Best Actress status.

Reborn before the auditions, Shen Yunxuan watches Qian Yue snatch the stand-in role and push her into the IP drama.

Shen Yunxuan (delighted): “With a few tweaks, this script will definitely become a hit—no more detours in this life!”

[World 3: The Favored Consort vs. The Devoted Wife]

Shen Yunxuan and Shen Rong are both daughters of a general. Shen Rong enters the palace as a consort, while Shen Yunxuan marries a young general and lives a lonely life.

Years later, Shen Rong is banished to the cold palace, while Shen Yunxuan’s husband is promoted to marquis and dismisses his harem, showering her with exclusive devotion. Shen Yunxuan enjoys the respect of her in-laws, the love of her children, and a reputation as the most enviable woman in the land.

Reborn before their engagements, Shen Rong tries to win favor with the elders, aiming to marry the young general, and insists Shen Yunxuan enter the palace.

Shen Yunxuan (smiling brightly): “If my sister insists on giving me such a great card, how could I refuse?”

World 4: Marrying a Pretty Boy vs. Becoming a Military Wife

World 5: Fortune-Telling Livestream vs. Wealthy Matron

World 6: Farmhouse Cook vs. Noble Servant

World 7: Orphan with a System vs. Harem Protagonist

First things first - excellent translation. Now on to the review -

It's not a bad novel, in fact it has a lot of elements I loved. Like FL being clear headed & not solely reliant on men. I just felt that the characters are too one dimensional. The villains are completely brain dead. Unbelievably s*upid. The plot armour is so thick that I couldn't keep reading. The worlds are illogical too. Like in the second world, are we to really believe that apart from villainess, no one tried to stop... more>> her rise? No rival agency trying to swallow her company? Just watch her soar? I loved the empowerment of women theme going on but it's counting on way too much suspension of disbelief. Third world is where I gave up. For an FL that talks about charity work & making the world better, she has no issues with marrying the emperor or monopolising his favour- especially when the whole reason for you marrying him was that he was absolutely fair in his dealings. &Amp; For an emperor who is supposed to be so wise he still has no issues with how much she does for her brother? The palace intrigue does not work with the theme the author has going on. Honestly, the first world worked best - perhaps the author should have just fleshed that out instead of branching into imperial harem nonsense. It's just too shallow & one dimensional.

That said, maybe you'll like it? I just felt like the premise was good, execution was bad. It had potential. <<less

So far this is a fun read! Highly enjoyed the first 15 chapters-- the protagonist seems pretty clever, and her current antagonist isn't super smart, but her limited strategy/perspective makes sense given the character setting. I like me a bit of face-slapping/melodrama, and have a soft spot for the 'weak turning strong and making everyone regret it' genre.

The translation is great, very smooth, and well-polished. Can't wait to read more!

It's a nice read. Has the same formula. Low IQ cannon fodder exchanges marriage with MC. It's enjoyable because MC is always a go-getter, morally upright and never a doormat.

However by world 4, it gets tiring. It's never as satisfying when antagonists are incapable of any character growth. This world also has a lot of china propaganda.

World 5 immediately starts out morbidly; worst life MC had lived so far. Considering MC usually didn't take initiative to exact revenge in previous worlds, I'm not keen. Moreover the supernatural Taoist storyline isn't... more>> appealing. I dropped. <<less

Love love love!!! I'm a sucker for OP female leads that have character - though I believe I should partially owe it to the nemesis. She truly makes the FL shine with how wretched her beliefs are in trying to steal the fate of the FL. Though you can understand her intentions in wanting to pursue a better life in each rebirth, she does not intend to change her innate selfishness. She sees the FL's gains and wins in each first life together and believes that by stealing the pathway... more>> of the FL during rebirth she will win the same fate as her. It's truly satisfying when she realises the same circumstances turn against her.

In turn, the FL reaches better glories and endings in each rebirth. The FL is very smart and I'm truly a follower 😂

The translation is seamless and engaging, it enables me to envision everything in detail. Sometimes it feels like I can see it play by like a drama.

I'm hanging on to each update now that I've caught up to the translation hehe, can't wait for the rest of the worlds. Finishing world 3, onto the next four !! Please don't miss out this gem guys!
Spoiler

I'm also pleasantly surprised that I'm still thoroughly enjoying reading with romance not always being the major plotline. In the second lifetime, Actress Shen Yunxuan captured my heart - she empowered every person that was wronged and allowed them to reach new heights in their second lifetime. 🥹

Actually good. In some worlds, there are ML, and in some worlds there aren't. If you are here for romance, I think it is still a good read but romance is never the main focus. MC advocates for self-improvement so she didn't rely on ML and mostly focus on improving herself.

There is no fixed ML and that is not a bad thing because like I said, romance is never the focus. In fact, MC treats her past life as if it was a book she reads, she called it Book... more>> of Memories. So in each world, MC feels like she is her own person. She even has different personality and different interests in each world.

You can treat this as if you are reading an anthology, with each world as their own short stories. My personal favourite is the last arc — which is rare for QT novel because usually the last arc are usually what broke the novel with lackluster ending. This one, while not impressive but has very acceptable ending. I think it ties MC's advocacy of self-improvement and spread kindness, whenever possible very nicely.

Hololo's translation is good as well. I have fun seeking passwords for locked chapters. It's like a mini-game that isn't intrusive at all. <<less

Like other reviews said, the protagonist is pretty clever and independent, not overly reliant on men, and the plot generally flows smoothly for her. The lower reviews are also valid as all the characters beside the main character feel incredibly shallow. The opposing female switches are *REALLY* repetitive, but I suppose it makes sense to make sure they follow the switch-life plot. Otherwise, one might be like "I'll take your place, but I'll kick you into the gutter!" or do the smart thing and either actually utilize what they know... more>> or smartly abscond the plot. They only end up thinking that at the very end of their life, for some reason. That said, I suppose the villainesses' obsession tends to make them stick around. Would not be surprised if they're the same soul the whole time, obsessed with Shen Yunxuan.

The families tend to be in the shitbox, too, having the s*upidest reasons to originally favor the villainess.

Spoiler

One was because she was the twin that apparently "ate all the nutrients" in the womb and made the other twin (villainess) weak and delicate. Another was because she simply was a difficult birth compared to the other daughter and wasn't a boy? Jfc, the superstitions of that era.

[collapse]

Anyway, a large part of the stories (esp, the weak to strong trope) are pretty satisfying if you don't expect five star plot and character development (the villains never learn; they just regret life didn't go right for them). I enjoy how each life, the MC develops well without overly taking up revenge as a main theme. It's generally an uplifting women in society type of story, outside of the villains. It does get a little boring once she's established and the villain realizes she didn't understand MC's old life at all. The fun part is the little bit of work MC does to get where she needs to go. Once she's at the pinnacle, the rest of the arc is just a praise session where she introduces stuff from past lives to benefit the country (it's a very patriotical story), and the villainess acting up here and there like a dying fish.

Anyway, still reading!

(I have to say, I feel like I keep end up reading Hololo's novels. They have a good story picks in what to translate). <<less

Thank you to sandy on hololo novels for translating this story. You're awesome!

Onto the review: The novel's background is interesting.... more>>
Spoiler

Instead of having a system involved, or in some novels I've seen, main characters who were system agents/with a system but lost their memories, the main character Shen Yunxuan isn't like that. She seems to have access to memories from parallel versions of herself on different worlds (starting from world 2, in world 1 she only remembers her previous life). This, along with her previous life memories before her regression/time travel in that world, makes her a force to be reckoned with. Also, the parallel life memories are less important than you think. Shen Yunxuan did great in the first world without it, and even in the second, other than using some of the business knowledge from world 1, most of her success comes from her acting career and the awards/star power associated with it.

[collapse]
So that explains why the worlds have different backgrounds, albeit traits remain the same, such as her hardworking and intelligent demeanor. Some worlds will have romance, like world 1, while others will not, like world 2. I find no issue with the time travel/regression plot. Think about it: Shen Yunxuan already lived an entire life with much worse circumstances, and yet she still became successful. If given the chance to start over, wouldn't she do even better? I actually find that the villainesses, aka the female characters who are reborn alongside Shen Yunxuan, are slightly complex. Under normal circumstances, given a second chance at life, they should succeed, but because of their own refusal to grow and learn, or acknowledging too late that they can't rely solely on their previous life's memories, they bring about their own downfall. One fascinating aspect I see the author bring up in each arc is the reborn villainess inadvertently helping Shen Yunxuan. In world 1, it's

warning Shen Yunxuan (out of spite) that she'd have trouble coming for her, after the male lead returned from overseas, thus enabling Yunxuan to guard against the cousin of the male lead

[collapse]
. It makes me realize, is this why the villainess is reborn alongside Shen Yunxuan? Now it makes sense why such an awful person is reborn again. Other than trading their "good hand" with Yunxuan's bad one, they, having memories from a previous life too, can fill in the gaps that Shen Yunxuan is not aware of. <<less

Lan Gui follows their own routines. So before throwing a brick at me hear me out, I find this novel a decent one. It is good for what it is. I've read few of their novels and noticed that they often follow the same path of this specific type of FMC, always so good, so hard-working, always repeats the same thing over and over "walk step by step, don't be conceited", just her living a good life (even if she doesn't do much to people who wronged her) will always... more>> make the villains down the path of no return (exaggerated, I know).

Same goes for this novel and this FMC. What I liked is the concept of this novel though. You can picture it as Shen Yunxuan lives 1st life, it's not great, but she manages, she is reborn back in time, someone is reborn as well, usually someone close to her who wants to "steal" her "good life", with no deviations tbh. So she lives her second life full of success and love etc. Then she travels to another world where the same picture repeats, it's the world where she lives her 1st life, it's not good but she manages, then she is reborn. What we as readers follow is her rebirth lives of course. The second concept that I especially like is how the outside world thinks she lives a happy life, while it's just an illusion, which greatly portrays a message - don't envy someone without knowing the details. This is why although the other reborn person thinks Shen Yuxuan now holds bad cards, but they're actually excellent! It is also sweet and touching how Yunxuan finds love in these worlds. Some of the backstories and details from her past lives are so sad tbh. She had to compromise a lot with her "good" husbands and her family. Thanks to the knowledge of past lives and her hard-working nature she reaches new heights.

Spoiler

For example, in her World 3 she marries into the harem, in her past life she married some general, but the man had his own "white moonlight" he kept by his side, if it wasn't for Yunxuan's hard work she'd be dead in the backyard. But she still had to compromise and never had her own children in that life which was so sad. She and the Emperor were so happy to have kids of their own.

[collapse]

But this is actually can be posed as criticism, because Lan Gui writes mostly quick transmigration novels and they have similar FMCs and the plots usually progress the same way, so there is no room for something new, even if a new detail was added to the pot. For example in their latest novel of '25 "Mom, I won't dare to do it again" FMC needs to fulfill the wishes of mothers, so she is a mother in all those scripts. But the way the FMC is doesn't change much from previous novels. (Edit: the novel was renamed into "Unfilial son trembles in fear", don't like it when the novel gets renamed several times, but noting it in case someone will go to search for it and won't find it)

Another "criticism" would be directed at repeated actions of villains of this story. Unfortunately, they're not really interesting and don't differ that much. They always want to have a shortcut and never see a problem in themselves, they never make a progress as humans. This is why they don't bat an eyelash when they choose to steal the good fate of Yunxuan. No analysis, no think it twice, simply - I'll do it. Although these people and Yunxuan are completely different types, how do they expect to get something for nothing if they did not put the same amount of effort or brains. So yeah, of course all the villains end up badly and they all remind you of each other.. I really don't want to cuss, but some act like complete idiots.

So yeah, a decent one. But it's good to know what you're signing up for. <<less

Each arc is quick and cathartic, exactly like what the summary shows.

it's not a work of art, but its a good read for someone who just wants to read about karma always correctly targeting the villain. I felt satisfied from the ending of the MC and villain in most arcs.

A nice story.

In essence MC rebirth in each life where the other rebirth try to steal or snatch MC life track but never realize that the happiness or prosperity in MC life is the result of her hard work.

And truthfully MC life is not that good.

... more>> A rebirth person who changed the good card in their hands to the bad card in MC hands.

Each world is not that challenging except the metaphysic ones (world 5) and system ones (world 7).

The ending feels like just cut it at that. It never explain why MC have a memory book of the previous world in her mind. It also did not finished all the ending of the world that MC travel using the system.

It only shows MC success in controlling the system and free of danger. Ends. <<less

The plots are interesting and with my penchant for such topics without unnecessary details and stretching out the narrative, this should have become my favorite work. But... Unfortunately, I often felt irritation and anxiety, rather than satisfaction.

The FL is just the way I like it - a strong, sensible, calm, self-confident girl on her way to a better life in the given circumstances.

Overall, the relationship with the ML is built pleasantly and believably. But somewhere in the background, except perhaps world with the emperor.

The distribution of slaps is present in... more>> full volume. It's OK.

I wasn't even that angry and irritated by the cardboard villainous sisters, the s*upid thought process of the antiheroes, the FL's omnipotence in every little thing, the constant repetition of descriptions of her triumphs... an unnecessary long list of her successes in short periods of time, which have no connection to reality and common sense. But the heroine's halo is permissible in such works, so let's accept it))

What most disturbed my pleasant reading was the description of the FL's ex-husbands and her ex-in-laws. They are simply s*um and disgusting people and it was unpleasant to read about them. Because of the nasty exes and how they can ab*se the people who get into their families I was upset and irritated to read that in their first life they lived well due to the FL's efforts. Sometimes I even sincerely hoped that the "sisters" would make their life unbearable.

I read the first, third and fourth worlds. <<less

I like the author's ideas, I can even accept the writing style that is more of painting a picture, they describe an overview of what's happening instead of building each scene in detail, while not super engaging it's still enjoyable.

My biggest problem though is that it overstay it's welcome, or that it never builds something more. World 4 is just a rehash of the first, rags to riches, it doesn't give her a new profession to tap into for her book of memories and in turn it felt pointless. World... more>> 5 had the best potential to change things, adding some bigger overarching plot but instead cemented the idea that these are just random short stories of a character multiple lives.

Honestly, it's like others have said, this is an anthology rather than quick transmigration. It's fun to pass the time, but you won't really miss anything if you decide to stop before the end or skip arcs entirely. <<less
