Since Guan Shan got the horror game simulator in his head, everything in his eyes became horrifying.

A meat restaurant with human corpses hanging in the kitchen, an abandoned apartment building with a phone ringing at midnight, a psychiatric hospital full of mu*derers…

[Only by killing the final BOSS can this simulation be ended! ] As an ordinary person, Guan Shan was scared.

In the face of these terrifyingly powerful Bosses, he could only try his best to kill monsters and get some equipment in order to survive.

He was barely able to survive each simulation.

However, in the eyes of others, Guan Shan was a horror and anomaly himself!

“Captain, the S-class dangerous psychic has been killed by him, and the entire base was destroyed by him, but why is he crying for help with a look of fear? Should we save him or not?”

“Are you s*upid? He is coming towards us! Let’s run!”

fairly interesting so far. The MC is not a total idiot and the initial misunderstandings are not dragged out forever
Spoiler

he eventually figures out that something odd is happening in reality while he's in the horror scenario and realizes he has killed real people; monstrous criminals, but still, they were real people.

[collapse]

I'm curious to find out more about what happened to the MC before, to know more about his childhood friend, and to see him stomp out the bad guys. My rating for now is 4.5.

Newest work from the author who wrote "I'm Really Not The Demon God's Lackey". This time it feels like a cross between My House of Horrors and IRNTDGL. It's the same type of misunderstanding comedy as IRNTDGL, but it also turns horror into a game kinda like MHoH. Don't expect any good horror though, as it's really not the focus of the series, however, horror descriptions do exist. I think the author had a lot of ideas he hoped would work out to create another series like IRNTDGL but didn't,... more>> however, the author's just an amazing writer, so it worked anyways. I think it's a trend these days that if you make a hit in China the author will try and recreate that hit with a second similar series. I've noticed a few top series following this trend. The misunderstanding part of the comedy does get resolved. Although it was a bit awkward at the end there. It made more sense that the protagonist in IRNTDGL had something of an omnipotent aspect to him. As he directly had some kind of god thing manipulating events in the background. "I'm Really Scared" only has a game-like overlay to the world, yet the author is trying to also give him an omnipotent aspect.

So the setting is a world full of supernatural powers set in the real world China. The public is unaware of them. The protagonist will stumble into a scene where he's going to get attacked by evil supernaturals then his game-like overlay activates. The world is overlayed with horror. People don't appear as human anymore, but monstrous versions of themselves. This makes the protagonist think that what he's seeing isn't real. But it is, and when the good guys see the protagonist acting in these scenarios, they're terrified of his behavior ripping people apart without a care in the world.

One of the things I am most disappointed of in this series is the lack of seperation between the police incidents and the ones cleared out by the protagonist. Because everything the protagonist does turns out to be cleaning up the incident the police were just about to attack themselves. Like the protagonist is being told "go here" by a system and complete a quest. He's not even aware that there is an incident that needs investigating. Yet he keeps kill stealing from the police. This makes the police look very incompetent because all they end up doing it watching the protagonist slackjawed. In IRNTDGL the protagonist only handled a few events himself and all the side characters got a chance to fight themselves.

The biggest reason this is a problem is because whenever the antagonists say "the police are nothing but kids" I believe them. I feel like nothing the police have done actually shows them as anything but incompetent. <<less

Novel is currently: Barely worth reading.

43 Chapters in, and the novel is an interesting blend but has clear flaws similar to the author's other novels.

Early novel spoilers without exact details: (Summary is okay.)

Basically there are mysterious evil superpower people running amuck! There's a mysterious evil organization (Think like the Brotherhood of Mutants or Orochi; basically all evil super powered people).

MC activates the horror gaming system (or so the unreliable narration tells us) when he is drawn by accident into a mind control cannibal villain couple's evil plot.

MC is unable to see reality and instead sees the world as a survival horror game and takes out the boss!

Enter the complete useless good guy organization who went to stop evil couple who are shocked; and so MC goes about his life slowly leveling up as organization is scared at how powerful MC seems to be!

Oh and there's a mysterious Shen childhood sweetheart girl who is the romantic love interest who is hinted at not being what she seems (not just a cute short girl) and instead some monster entity.

[collapse]

Novel had a somewhat solid start but is already showing lots of signs of decline.

Definitely a mediocre 2/10, but may fall further based on story.

Issues:

The villains are really tropey and dumb, including:
Spoiler

Person scared by MC who doesn't run, overconfident moron, and Chinese teenage rapists.

[collapse]

Meanwhile the supposed Chinese authorities have complete morons leading them and are probably why this evil organization is able to kill and harm so many Chinese civilians. The police/special forces group has do nothing higher ups and the actual power ability members are just comic relief or s*upid beyond belief who should have died but author literally bends the plot around so that MC can save their worthless lives =_=. They watch the MC but make up everything in their small brains. <<less

I think this has potential to be really good, the problem is the translation. It reads like a badly edited machine translation (the grammar itself is ok) a lot of words aren’t changed to proper english, so they don’t make much sense, and other words have their entire meaning changed altogether. It’s at times annoyingly obvious but it also puts into question what else is changed or screwed up.

It was fun to read even then, so I really hope a good translation group can pick this up and translate it... more>> from chapter 1. If it’s well translated and a bit more localized, it will surely turn out to be an awesome novel. Giving it a 5/5 because it can’t be judged on this translation and the chapters so far show it should at least be 4/5 if translated well. <<less

Sadly seems to be on hiatus right now?

Anyway, it's a pretty good novel, though not as good as the author's other work. I feel like the horror isn't really scary especially because the descriptions are more weird than anything, but that doesn't terribly impact the experience.

Action sequences are engaging, the MC isn't OP from the beginning and has to go about encounters smartly to get through them (or coincidentally luck himself through), the plot is fun and I have no clue where the author is actually leading it.

TL;DR: A fantastic premise with an average execution and a subpar translation.

This novel has a great premise and I would certainly read hundreds more chapters of it if available. However, that does not mean there aren't any problems.

The main one is obviously the translation. It reads very, very poorly. It is probably the worst human translation I have ever seen. It might be a good thing that the translator dropped this novel, I hope another one picks it up and completes it.

... more>> Now beyond that, there are two main problems.

First of all, Shen Dinghua. This novel seems to have a romance subplot, but the main character knew and was close to the female lead before the novel began. By the time the novel starts, he already has some feelings beyond friendship for her.

This leads to an awkward situation where the main character cares for and accommodates this girl while the readers don't have any emotional attachment to her. There is a disconnect between the readers and the MC, and I'm sure this will be exacerbated when he makes sacrifices for her in the future.

Second of all, I hate the mundane side of MC's life. At least in the beginning, there is a huge contrast between the main character's supernatural life and his mundane life. In his mundane life, he is a small news reporter who gets yelled at by his superior, but in his supernatural life, he is a sick badass with a firm mentality.

Frankly, his mundane life seems entirely pointless and merely clogs the story with unfun content. For example, there were three entire chapters dedicated to face slapping a random news reporter. It wasn't even like cool face slapping, MC just provided a picture that the reporter thought he didn't have. That situation was somehow drawn out to around 3000 words by the author.

For the most part, these are extremely minor concerns. As I said previously, I'd gobble this novel up if there were more chapters translated. In fact, I might check out the MTL regardless.

Anyway, I would absolutely recommend this novel if there was further translation of it. If this review gets an update, the MTL is probably digestible, if it doesn't, probably not. <<less

Hey, I just read the first 3 chapter, judging from these 3 chapters, this is a good novel. Keeps me curious about the next chapters.

AND WHERE THE f*ck IS THE TRANSLATOR?!

edit: Ehem! Chapter 52 here! Well, The novel did not betray my expectations. Written by the author of I am really not the demon god lackey, this novel gave me high expectations. Phew! Luckily my expectations weren't crushed.

Okay, this novel is definitely, will be, really worth reading. The mystery part is very curious. The horror part is really good, gives a thick and gloomy impression.

Especially the mystery part, all the chips placed on the table really made me wonder what the real answer to all of that was.
